Welcome All My Friends To The Show That Never Ends - Canna M & Nismo12 Team Up!

Im dwc all the way but i use 5 gal individual buckets so i wont be much help on your big boy rez. lol i will do my best to lend any assistance and answer any questions i can when they arise. I am in love with dwc and dont think i will ever go back to dirt.

It is an individual 5 gallon bucket, but was thinking about adding a res. We have an air pump, air stone, 8" net pot and 2 pounds on hydroton. Anything else we need?

Thermometer for rez temps, something to cover the top of your net pot until growth is dense enough to keep light from getting through the hydroton... Make sure your pump is good. I got a couple that i thought were good cuz they're rated for like 80 to 100 gallons and i ended up having to double up on them as they just weren't making enough bubbles.

Heres a brief look at my setup. I put my intake duct and air pumps right over my central air vent to keep tent and water temps down.

larger res doesn't equal longer time before changing it. regardless any res of any size should be flushed every 7 days, especially if you use kelp or other benis in there. and preventing light leaks will save you so much hassle with algae/bad bacteria. if you can prevent light getting into your res, it can get hot, but no bacteria can grow if they don't have light! if I were to build my bucket a bit different I'd use the reflective insulation around the bucket to maintain the temps a lil better than just light proofing with plastic. Res coolers get $ quick

another good point that I like to point out to people is, if you leave your pump in the tent, the air your pump is sucking is the hot air inside, put it outside the tent and whamo, cooler air = cooler temps. granted some people will put them in the tent if they are too loud for them, which is understandable, but I rather deal with sound then heat lol

I was just trying to make it so I didn't have to fill up the bucket everyday. Not a big deal. Went to a pet store and picked up another air pump, a pump to bring water up to the hydro ton to keep it wet, an aquarium thermometer, and a ferret. Yes, a simple supply run ended with getting a ferret as well.

Moving on, I believe we have everything we should need. Also picked up some hydro grow big and hydroguard root inoculant. Anything else? I feel like I'm learning to ride a bike again lol.

Thank you everyone again. :420: to the rescue!

She will be over by the ac and the air pump will be over there as well. I know we need to keep the water cold, how cold? I've looked in the DWC threads and everything is 4 years old and couldn't find a tutorial. I've looked for hours, that's why I posted here hoping to get answers or pointed in the right direction.

:thanks:

optimum temp range is 68F-72/3F they say around 74 is where bacteria loves to grow/thrive but if it's light sealed you won't have issues...I've had spikes up to 77 and then usually at night it'll cool back down to 72-74. but I've never once had an issue with any bad bacteria, and obviously if you start having issues
1 Hydrogen peroxide works to kill...it's somewhere like 1ml/gal [I think] there is a thread by Sonora called Bloomin in a Box...check that out, he's had issues with it in the beginning and used peroxide for his fix.
2 there is an SM product [ I think like sm90] that is used to prevent bad bacteria from growing in higher temp res.

Re: Welcome All My Friends To The Show That Never Ends - Canna M & Nismo12 Team Up!

65°F is the commonly agreed upon temp for rez water. Too high and you lose dissolved O2 and increase the chance of bacterial infections, too low and you can slow development. i use hydroguard so i am ok with my temps being at ~70°, which is where they stay pretty reliably. I am a believer of beneficial bacteria(hydroguard, voodoo juice, teas...) and a good enzyme product. I like hygrozyme but its pricey so im trying out pondzyme this time.
You got a submersible pump to top feed? I use one too at the beginning. I pop my seeds in paper towels, then right into hydroton with some mycos and turn my top feed pump on 15 mins on 45 mins off for the first week. Then 15 mins on 1 hour off for the next week and by then roots have usually hit the rez and i pull the pump, lower my rez level to about 2 inches below my net pot and let the bubbles do their job of keeping the hydroton misted.
Oh, and congrats on the ferret. Awesome little critters, second in my heart only to rats. lol

Re: Welcome All My Friends To The Show That Never Ends - Canna M & Nismo12 Team Up!

Today was a great day...partly because I had a day off of work. :loopy:

Yesterday at work I decided to make a reflector for the 85 true watt CFLS. Today we picked up the hardware and mounted it today. We are going to use these for the breeding project. The CFLs are 6700k and when flower starts ill pick up some 2700k bulbs.

Then we have our DWC project. Earlier this week I had to sudden urge to give one site a go just to see what it is all about. I read that they grow 30% faster, so why not give it a shot. We have a submersible pump in there for the time being trickling water up top until the roots drop into the water. There are two air stones inside making it bubble like you wouldn't believe. We put a little bit of hydro grow big, big bloom, and hydrogaurd. Water temp is 68 degrees and that is after a couple hours. PH is 5.96.

Then just a jungle shot!

Oh and we will be getting another light for the flower room next week. Just in time for the damn bush to become a tree. It is the Amare SE 450 UVB. Super excited about it and Victor over at Amare is great to work with. So next weekend the big girl will be under the mini sun!
