Weenmeoff's Inside Soil Alien Abduction Grow Journal

Clones are looking great! Should start seeing a bit of roots come Monday! We give ours a little mist of water a couple times a day before they took. Now we have been foliar feeding cal mag just help with yellowing. After the roots take, don't forget they are not seedlings and would like a good feeding. Keep it up!

Thanks Nis! Yup, I've been opening domes a couple times per day, breathing on them and spraying inside of dome before I close them. Will give Nutes once there are roots, assuming I should do 1/3 or 1/4 strength and also assuming my MagCal in the pic below is the same as your CalMag....? Can you tell me approximate solution you use and how often I should spray and should I only spay the plant that is yellowing?

I have some seeds on the way including Carnival so will be changing my game plan and moving towards a perpetual set up, hopefully. I am assuming I will keep the 4x4 tent for flowering and will need to build a veg space or buy another tent. My 600w light, currently has MH bulb but also came with HPS and will likely use that for flowering so will need to explore other veg lighting options. Suggestions? I am ok with going CFL if others have had success but also don't mind shelling out a few more bucks and getting LEDs or something else. Maybe I should get the same light I have and have spare MH and HPS bulbs.....?

Nutes for the clones should be the same as what you were giving the mothers. As for lighting, you can use CFLS for seedlings or veg. We just got another 600 watt light and ballast and used MH for veg and HPS for flower. It'll do the job regardless it all boils down to what you want to spend. As for your magcal, our bottle says 1 ml per liter or 1 tsp per gallon. So I just mixed up the sprayer bottle with 1 ml of it. If it doesn't do anything, it doesn't hurt. They are showing no signs of hating it. I think of it as preventative maintenance.

I've had great success with just CFLs as well as using them as supplemental lighting for the lower reaches. I'm not interested in popcorn, so I tend to flood the lower portions if possible. T-8s work every bit as effectively as T-5s and are significantly less expensive and easier to source. The addition of a good quality LED panel will have you asking why you waited so long to try it.

Light is the engine that powers the grow. It's all up to what your pocketbook and imagination can handle. If possible find some way to surround the plants with light. Not always an option, and not one I choose with every specimen, but the ones I'm most partial to get royal treatment.

Thanks again Nis and Sue! While I know some people do relatively low budget grows, I've found out that this can get pretty expensive quick but I do ok for myself and have been spending top dollar for nugs for many years. Maybe I can save some money in the long run.

I am thinking about getting the same light set up I have and supplementing with CFLS and good quality LEDs. I'll do some research on those but am happy to listen to recommendations of LED lights and sources.

I can't say enough about the Advanced panel I have, and I have to believe all of their products are this good. What impresses me most are the tight nodes my plants are growing. I'd expected them to be much more leggy. I'm very happy with this light.

The Mars-Hydro line consistently gets good reviews from members using them, myself included. I have a couple small 300 watt panels that are fine on their own for a good-sized plant. Even members who have problems with a panel appear to get satisfaction from customer support. For the price, they're hard to beat and they are sponsors, so they maintain a presence on site.

The cannabis you'll grow will be so superior to what you can purchase anywhere that you'll be shocked. That's not even taking into account the romance of your first harvest. You'll recoup your set-up expenses within the first two grows. It can get expensive, I'll give you that. We keep expanding and buying "MORE LIGHT!!!" :laughtwo:

I have vegged a few dozen plants under T5 CFLs. When I switched the regular T5 bulbs in my Late Veg area out with AgroMax PurePar T5s, the leaves grew dark green and waxy. Much happier plants (same strains) compared to prior grows.

For vegging plants over 12" tall, I think you will be happier with the purple light spectrum found in LEDs or special CFLs.

Thanks Sue! Can you tell me the specific advanced panel you have? Would it be a good one as a supplement to HID? I am considering just getting another of the same HID that I have which is from iPower, is 600w, dim able to 75 or 50%, came with MH and HPS bulbs plus hangars and timer for $170.

Maybe I should just supplement with CFL T5's?

Thanks Rad! Are these Agromax pure par the kind of CFLS that can be used in regular light sockets? Can they be purchased at lowes, Home Depot, etc? Again, thinking about supplemental light unless someone talks me out of the 2nd 600w HID.

Some healthy looking cuts there bud!

Thanks Growlow! Still perky after a few days. Anxious to see some roots and then some pistils.

The Agromax Pure Par are standard 4' T5 CFLs. They come in veg and bloom.

When I purchased a them couple of months ago, there was only one online store that sold these bulbs. I think they were priced $8-11 per bulb. I already had the fixture installed. My vegging has been much better under these lights than the standard T5 CFLs.

My panel is the Advanced Diamond Series XML 350. I know very little about it. Other people research and purchase, I have this wonderful life where things just happen to show up. This was one of three panels I unexpectedly won for becoming MOTY. It's doing an incredible job in my veg tent.

I take back what I said about the agro light since I have yet to buy or build my veg tent/room. I had been thinking of getting the same 4x4 but am thinking that is probably overkill and would take up too much needed space in the garage.

Thanks again everyone for all the input!

T5 bulbs are available in 2' as well 4' lengths.

A 4' bulb isn't actually 4' long. it is 2.75 inches shorter. Most 4' bulbs (including the lamp case) fit within a 4' space.
My Sunleaves Pioneer lamps are 47" long. The 2' version (Jr) is 23 3/16" long.
My less sturdy T5 lamps in the art room are 46 1/4" long.

Al you DIYers encouraged me to make a veg space with stuff around the house. I was going to build it from wood and then decided to use my dog crate instead. It's approximately 42L by 30w by 32h. I lined it and wrapped it with a variety of materials I had in the garage including a vynil banner that is white on inside and black on outside, metal heat tape, some adhesive rubber material I think was for a roofing job...? And aluminum foil and duct tape. I had an extra inline fan that I taped to the top corner with the reflective heat tape.

I suspect this will not be the ideal veg space but will give it a shot. Either way I am. Looking at either the T5s and or Mars hydro LEDs or a combo of the 2. I'll need to keep them low profile and low heat.

I spent some time punching (better known as exfoliating but am gonna call it punching thanks to Nis's typo) and a few FIMs. I only punched leaves that couldn't be tucked and/or were blocking light, not many at all. Pics later.

nismo will get a kick out of that. :laughtwo:

Great work on the impromptu space. Gotta give you reps for the initiative so effectively carried out. If you can control temperatures with the in-line fan, you might be able to make it an enviable space. I keep thinking I need such a space in my apartment, but I'm lazier than most.

Take some pictures of this constructed space. We love pictures. :battingeyelashes:

I'll put up some pics later after I finish the veg space. I went ahead and ordered the Mars Hydro 96 LED 205w times 2. I saw these on one of nismos journals, got them from eBay as it was about $40 less than Amazon.

There really hasn't been much noticeable growth but maybe it seems that way since I visit them a couple times per day...? What was once the runt is now gaining ground on the other 2 and might now be the best developed. The first pic is the "runt." Pic 2 was the largest and is still a little yellow but the purple on the stem where I clipped the clone has reduced significantly.

Still no roots visible but I noticed some new growth and they really look solid, very perky.

Today

When first cut

Today - the one on the bottom of the pic above is the same as the one on the left in the pic below.

Watered today, the usual 2 gallons. What was odd is that #3 (the one that has yellowed since taking the clone) had water coming out the bottom far before the other 2 and it was amber colored.

Seeds arrived from herbies today, 6 days! Very happy with the process. I also saw what I believe to be a root poking out of one of the holes at the bottom of the clone cups, it's a good day!

Will wait a couple days before flipping them. Should I gradually wean them off the domes?

Thinking about doing scrogs. Are my plants at a good size to do that? I will use the tops of tomato cages and plastic coated fencing which I saw in someone's journal, I can't remember who right now. What are the approximate dimensions of the screen?
