Weenmeoff's Inside Soil Alien Abduction Grow Journal

Can my plants that are in flower for about 10 days go without water for 6 or 7 days? Im going on vacation but it's only about 2.5 hours away.

Would those water globes that you stick on the soil help?
Being in flower you don't want them to dry out like you do in veg. Something is better than nothing. We are going on vacation for a week also in the beginning of the year so we need to think of something. :thumb:

Well, you know better than anyone how quick your containers are drying out, but I would say a week is a long time without water for the girls in flower and, yes, the water globes would help.

Some other options that will help buy you extra time are to perhaps put them in a small res where they can drink from the bottom. There are also some automatic plant feeders you can hook up to a faucet. Or, you can create some wicking system, or transplant to a SWC. Larger containers will also hold more water, so up-potting can buy some extra time.

If you give them a good watering on the first day, it should be enough for at least 2-3 days (or you need to up-pot!) so you only need to buy yourself a few extra days of watering.

Thanks Nis! While at the big box shop looking for the watering globes, I saw a wAtering timer you hook up to a hose that was tempting at $40 but I'd be a little scared to try it with all the electricity around. Globes were tiny, there were 2 options and the smaller one said .05 gallons, I'd need a bunch of em the bigger ones which are probably .1 gallons at $8 each. I figured I would research other options and or plan on coming home to water, and I can use my new camera to check on em. I had to buy a wifi extender.

Thanks Krip! They're in #7's and have been watered twice since 8/2, looked fine yesterday but will get watered tomorrow or Wednesday. I got a wifi camera and can monitor them but would still prefer not to have to drive 5 hours round trip.

Tell me more about the small res idea. Would I just put each plant in a container, feed as I normally would and add extra water in the containers? Are there any drawbacks/potential hazards to this?

For the water globes, you can get some 1L or 2L soda bottles, drill some small holes in the caps, fill with water and put caps back on, and invert and bury an inch or two in your soil. The water bottles will do the same thing the globes will.

For the res, yes, you can place a fabric or nursery pot in a larger container with NO holes (the res). Saturate the pot before you leave and fill the res up to about 1/4" above the bottoms of the pot. As the pot loses moisture from roots uptaking water, or evaporation, it will be replaced by water in the res. The only hazards are having too much roots in too much water sitting stagnant for too long. Root rot can set in.

One other option I didn't mention earlier is to setup a gravity fed system, but it's a little more labor-intensive to get setup:

I hope that helps!!!
:Namaste:

I like the idea of the 1&2 litter bottles and will look at the gravity feed system when im done tucking and weaving. In progress, I think the first one I did needs to be done again already.

Update +11

I spent over 2 hours tucking and weaving, it's exhausting, ha! I think the canopy is looking pretty good. I had to punch a bunch of leaves to open it up a little and it's still pretty crowded but better. The young ins are looking good, they need some training which I will do tomorrow. 2 or 3 of the 4 clones look good to go and will get put into #1's tomorrow or Wednesday. My wifi camera is all hooked up, so psyched I can keep my eyes on them. I had to get a wifi extender. Thanks Nis for the camera recommendation and Masonman for offering to help me set up an old router as a repeater even though that didn't work out and congrats to MM on the MOTM nomination and Krip and Duggan, you guys ROCK! :theband:

Sorry about the purple pics.....

I found a drip irrigation kit that is inexpensive but it does at 1 GPH which I don't think helps me as I will fully water them then the drip system would add 5 gallons in 5 hours and they'll be over watered. If i put the drippers under the soil, would it deliver as needed?

You can put it on a timer and/or add a shut-off valve to the main drip line and then turn the valve almost off (you'll need to tune it) so it only delivers the amount you want/need.

Dude check it out if your tired of moving them around I built a sip system that can give them water from a central, hydro locked, drip tank in measured amounts and if you check my journal it helped with some explosive growth.

the potential of it is worth looking into I think, I was thinking of adding home made bloom nutes with h202 to the tank once a week, and if you keep it full for a week you can figure out when the plants actually want water they drink a lot at night to get ready for sunrise.

One more edit: the 5 gallon tank is from the grocery for $6 the cat litter pans were a dollar at dollar tree$4, the Perlite was $15 and tubing was $5 total =$30 and it's worth it in peace of mind when I go out of town for a week I just ph the water in the extra tanks and my fiancee changes them out for me.

Do you have air stones or anything in the res? If this seriously works then I would have watering automated in the flower room. When you have 10 large girls in there watering and feeding takes forever. I'll have to check this out. No idea how well this would work going high brix though...I'll have to do some more reading.

I'm glad you got the camera all setup. Looking good but. You can also set it up to have a time stamp and take pictures and video (need to put a memory card in it for that). Also has a motion detector and alarm if you want that security. It sends a notification to your phone saying that's it going off.

Your girls are looking great with your scrog setup. Clones look happy. You ready for your high brix to start?

Looks awesome. Is there more set up details at your journal? If so can you provide a link?

Thanks Nis! I am ready to brix! I can't get the alarm went to email set up and the tech person has not been helpful but he's responded. For now I just want to be able to look on on them when away. Im considering getting a couple more for around the house.

I do as matter of fact have air stones now in the sips under the girls when I added them they got a little boost in growth. I will put one in the feeder tray too eventually here's my journal I didn't show too much except the initial set up. When I feed I let the sip go dry first as well as the soil then I feed letting the run off drain into the sip let it dry again like normal wet dry cycles then add water to the res. Also keep the water level below the level of your medium letting water wick up through the pourus medium in your sips Perlite or lava rock works.

I fed the George's 6 gallons and set up drip irrigation (kit from HD for $14) on a timer (also from HD for $30,) it will drip about a gallon on each plant in 5 days which will hold them over til I get home in the next day or two. I'll have eyes on them the whole time.

I up potted the clones into #1's and watered all the vegging ladies. There are 8 plants in the dog cage veg space. I also tied down the young-uns.

So purple....

Hey Weenmeoff! Had to do some extensive reading but I'm all caught up now. Hope I'm not too late. Lets just say fashionably late haha. Also hope you don't mind my slight spam of likes. Just really digging your set up and garden. Gotta give you major respect for naming your plants after your gf's father. Thought it was cool using his ashes in your grow, keeping his spirit alive. If I go out, I definitely want to be grown with weed. I've never heard of Alien Abduction but it sounds absolutely killer. Stellar work man.

Top of the mornin to ya Ween....have an awesome day bud!:high-five:
Good morning to you Dank. I wanna offer up a big warm welcome to the "mag" . These parts around here are filled with growers who will help you at every chance and have a staggering amount of experience . The best part of these growers is not their talent to grow but all the other qualities they posses as people. Please, we only ask that you leave your ego at the door and enter our journals with a smile and a good attitude. We love to have fun while we grow some of the best cannabis in the world. May i suggest doing some reading of other HB journals including some of Doc Bud's stuff, like "in the lab" or his Q and A thread based around his DBHBB "Kit". Enjoy your stay Dank, and welcome aboard! :welcome::bravo::high-five::circle-of-love:

Hey Dank Bud! Welcome! Thanks for reading and for the kind words. You're just in time for the fun part, they've been in bloom for a couple weeks now. Bring on the buds!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
