Thanks LEDBud. Glad someone liked that thing- I think I mostly posted it because I thought Tead would appreciate it. Then wondered after- wtf am I doing posting pics of my boring dirty air intake?
Thanks Bob. You're a great natural fit here and I look forward to seeing you around more -or seeing you start up a grow journal sometime?
To be honest it's a bit weird having so many people on this current journal and having to cope with so many compliments and whatnot. Fun- but I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm a master grower or know shit about anything much or that I'm turning into a stuck up twat because I have a bunch of people on my journal. The only thing I know how do with compliments is accept them graciously - though most of the time I want to argue.
If anyone thinks I'm turning into a twat please just shoot me.
And anyway... yes that PC stuff honestly can be a nightmare to work with. It's like any other icky substance- gasoline, motor oil, epoxy glue, whatever. You either take the time to put on gloves, or you don't and you pay later. Having one of those branches drooping down and looking at the thing, contemplating having to lift it up, is like when you drop your spoon in a bucket of liquid honey, or a stir-stick in the glue/whatever. Put on a glove and gingerly lift the thing up with the tips of your fingers or a stick and try not to get it all over you - and usually fail, while you try to figure out wtf to do next.
Kriaze I'm scratching my head over whether the screens are more prone to mold. It can be a lot of jumbled up bud in one place so it wouldn't be surprising in that sense. But I think that's as far as it goes. I'm pretty sure the screens have slightly better ventilation than unscrogged plants, because I usually strip all the growth below the screen, and then there's a very large open space under quite a thin layer of plant and bud, with fans (usually/when they aren't broken) blasting air both above and below. As you can maybe sort of see in the pics after this.
In the end it just mostly seems to be very strain specific. PC is my mouldiest plant by far- followed by the Mama Thai. The Critical Cheese is somewhat similar in some ways in appearance to the PC- but I've never had any mould on it despite some very risky conditions. Like the last one I harvested. In the photos it's hanging over the edges but in the grow it was all tucked up on top and had screens (and corner wall) jammed up next to it on all sides.
I weighed the bud from this one yesterday - now that I figure it's stabilized somewhat in the curing jar. So this one was 146.4grams- just over 5 oz. I don't usually bother weighing my harvests, but there is a use to it sometimes. Knowing the grams per watt you're producing at least gives you something to compare to.
Santb- Another benefit of the scrog screen system which I forgot to mention last night- it allows me to measure GPW because it gives me a defined space to work with. Four screens takes up the entire growing area of a 600 light- so one screen is obviously a 1/4 of that.
So at 146.whatever grams that works out to just under 1 GPW.
150 grams (1/4 of 600) per screen would be 1 GPW.
This particular CC looked to be worth weighing as a good learning experience in that I think I pushed the yield limits of my setup and light about as far as I could with it. I also got (I'm guessing but didn't weigh it) about 2 oz of trim- which was mainly composed of inferior bud, from that plant, and I think I kind of overstepped the amount of bud I can expect to grow one screen. Ie- it was too full and If it wasn't so full I'd have less trim and maybe more good bud.
In any case it's not a big concern how much each plant produces, but it's interesting sometimes to do the math.
