A few years back my ph pen died. I never replaced it.
Of course, in my osmo world, all the water was exactly the same and I'd been adding the exact same amount of additives to the water for a long time.
Makes me wonder if you couldn't live without one for a while. You know what you've been feeding them. They're generally not unknown strains to your experienced grower's eye. Maybe you could trust yourself a touch more and move forward with what you probably know is the right mix and just keep that experienced grower's eye focused on the new growth for any signs of issues?

After I wrote those words, a moment of irony kicked in.
On my desk, right under the screen where those very words were authored, lie a PPM and PH pen and a piece of paper with testing results from various sources.
Of course, I'm in the middle of completely unknown water, so I need the toys, but the irony of the moment needed a mention.

Once you get things dialed in I agree they are really consistent. I test after every bucket of nutes that I mix up and it never varies much at all. I use graduated cylinders so I mix in the exact ml every time. I even had my wife follow my directions when I was in the hospital and everything was fine when I got home.

Hello Weasel just dropped by and found a way to find the threads I'm watching, and for some unknown reason am not getting notifications of new posts from.
I haven't had a chance to look at your other thread yet but I take it you have already discussed and discounted Powdery Mildew as the culprit? It rang a bell when I saw the pics so I had a little dig around and crowded grow areas, shading and also hops (I don't know if these are used in your brewing) are all areas of interest to that particular fungi, not so fun though when you think about it maybe it should be named 'notfkinfungi'.
Anyway I just thought I'd mention it and keep in a similar vein of form as usual, namely looking wildly at any and all causes then mentioning a possible cause whilst making myself look like an inexperienced fool for mentioning it ;)

Whatever it is I hope you rout out the problem, all the best and I'll try to read the other thread soon.

I dissected and soldered and re-dissected and re-soldered both my ph probes for a few hours tonight, until they were undeniably completely 100% dead. Sucked the scattered debris up with the shop vac. :rip:

I hope you have a good ball park recipe for PH.
You know what you've been feeding them.

Yeah you’d think I would have a pretty good idea of how much ph+ to add by now... Well, I have a rough idea, and for now and the next few weeks ‘rough’ is how things are going to have to be.
I mix my own ph plus using powdered sodium hydroxide (the pool and spa ph+). Many are the times I’ve thought that I should make a formula and mix it the same strength every time, which would allow me to measure out a set amount of it to get the ph I need.
I even was thinking that just a few days ago... ‘Next time’, is how the conversation in my head went, if I remember right.

But no, that doesn’t seem to be the way I fly. I just mix a ‘bunch’ with water, and it comes out a little differently each time. But no worries, the ph probe hangs in the bucket and the big numbers on the meter always tell me when I get there, right?

Next time.

Yeah- from everything I have read, PM seems to leave some visible powdery stuff on the plant, whereas my issue seems to show no visible sign of any sort of dust, spores, or mold.

.

Hey why not, that’s exactly what I do too. Cheers to that. Kind of embarrassing having a journal sometimes hey?

I’ll repost the last post of my ‘dry mold’ thread, part of a conversation with a botanist I know, which pretty much sums up where things are at with that thread and this strain. Which is, basically;

‘The P Chunk is a complete mess and I should get rid of the f&&king thing already. The smoke sure is good though.’

More from the pet botanist.

“In my British gardening books they always recommend putting such plants 'directly into the rubbish tip', which is probably good advice even if a bit hard to follow sometimes. Probably a good idea in this case though, with so many other choices available.
I have quite a few of those kind of plants, the ones that perennially fail to achieve their potential because of some unknown lack of vigour. No change in growing conditions seems to make it overcome whatever is happening with it. Even possible as you mentioned that there is a virus ... a domino effect leading to a bunch of other susceptibilities. It's hard to give up, but I haven't missed the plants like that I have managed to get rid of though, so maybe those old English guys are right.
There's a lot of things to grow...”

Later....

“I can see why you don't want to get rid of it though!!

Ha ha!”

What didn’t come through is all the smoke-cloud emoji in between the ‘ha!’ and the other ‘ha!’
I gave him a bag of PC earlier in the year... :)

Did you say "challenge accepted"

I love Frank Zappa...

Brewing up a fresh batch of colloidal silver, yum. Which I’ll use to try to self pollinate the PC. I may just end up making weak genetics weaker, or I may be able to shake some of the issues it has. Seems like an interesting experiment either way.
Blowing 60 knots here in the first storm of winter. They thunder through every few days once the season starts. As much as I dread winter sometimes I’d forgotten how much I love the storms- trees whipping sideways, the house shaking, and especially that crazy boom and rumble and awe inspiring singing/whoosh sound - like a fighter jet passing low. Up in its treetop the metal pole holding that stupid cell booster antenna has snapped off and all that gear is dangling and whipping around up there. Not much I can do about it now. I walked down the way to get a spot with reception and check out the storm. Huddled over trying not to get my phone blown away :hmmmm:
I think I’ll go back in before I blow way.

:thumb::passitleft: Thanks mate... album weasels ripped My flesh, rzzz, hahaha weasel just realised, hahaha now I'm thinking grizzzz  anyway, great album...

I germed 2 PC beans yesterday and they both opened already. So I should have them in bloom near the end of the year. Yay!!

Just a little update re what’s going on with the plants, which is - not too much going on. But when I was stormed in at home I finally got around to tidying up a bit in there at least. I reduced the veg jungle to about half of its former biomass and threw out quite a few extra clones. After a lot of mental back and forth I decided to toss the OGK too because it took up so much room and I don’t seem to be getting around to flowering it. I have a few more seeds of it I want to sprout soon. In the meantime I see quite a few strains that will probably cause space issues and will need all the room I can spare soon enough.

Currently in veg- a few PCs, three phenos of Chocolate Mint - CM1, CM2, and CM3. Y Griega, Carnival, Ethiopian, a mystery plant I was given that ‘may be Christmas Bud’, GTx2, GTx3, the baby OGK/Thai cross, and two baby GTs of the latest Ace version. Oh yeah and the Chocolope.

Here’s the Chocolope by the way. Potchimp’s is halfway through flowering and looks great. Mine has been on the back burner. I’m waiting for it to gain a little size and for the cuttings to root then I’ll put it in flower, in a week or so

The variegated Chocolate Mint sure stands out in a crowd. Some of the cuttings I took of it grew up and seem to have lost the variegation. So I’ve got two clone versions of CM3 now just to make things more complicated. CM4 ?

I started listing what’s in flower but even my own eyes are glazing over with boredom having to read all these names and numbers, so let’s just say the lefts side is mainly Carnivals and a Y Griega, and the right side is half empty with my latest problem PC and a couple other recent additions- leaving some free space for the Chocolope, and whatever else comes along.
