Yeah those bloody timers... I’m still haunted by the last one that sizzled up, which was especially bad. I was away for a couple days and came back to a room full of horrible burnt plastic smell, and there was a big black toxic streak running right up the wall and on to the ceiling. The thing was a melted blackened husk. That was many years ago though, so I like to think my timer choosing luck has improved a little.
It never occurred to me that it might do a long term brown-out like that. Pretty sneaky.

Super sneaky!
I moved away from the mech timers. I usually like mech things, but timers.... not so much. I often only got a year or two out of them. In some reverse universe, the electronic ones have ran reliably for years while the mech ones seem to die frequently.

I tell you, I'm having spectacular success running them no-mercy

Is this (below) more or less your no-mercy technique? How about clones? That’s one thing that tends to lead me astray- waiting for side branches to develop enough to take cuttings. By which time there’s impending trouble. Or there’s the other option of chopping the top off, or training to get side growth, but what I really want to do is just let them run naturally as a single cola.

I've been starting them in cups, at least the seeds - clones are trickier to time right. But seeds in cups will get me about 40 days before they run out of gas. If they're going to be pure sativas, I'll pop 'em into 3 gallon pots and flip 'em the same day. If they need some veg, I'll upcan to a 3 and give it another week or whatever

I ripped apart a mech timer a few years back and this is what I dug out of it. These switches are alleged to be good for 10 amps, but when planning electrical usage, always keep your loads below 75% of the ratings, but now that the market has been flooded with inferior tech, it would be good practice to undershoot the rating even less than 75% to remain safe.

Yep.

And I have the same issue with taking cuts. I can only hope to be able to reveg a true keeper. With sativas, there's nothing to take a cut from.

Thanks for digging up that photo Skybound. Mine was digital. I tend to trust the mechanical ones more but frequent power outages make them semi-useless. I’m going to dissect that busted one when I get a chance and see what I find in there. I was only running about 50% of the stated wattage through it. I saw another digital one at a store yesterday that was rated for something like 2600 watts so I may pick that up after I get a chance to do a google on it.

Graytail I wonder how those fluffy bud-on-stick plants reveg... Potchimp seems good at revegging everything. I asked him.

Rolled the dried hash into a crude ball to sit and cure. I assume it will lose a little more weight and dry slightly more but it seems like a nice gooey batch.

Man, dat's a chunk o' hash!

I've wondered about revegging a fluffy sativa. I'd like to go another round with this DurBush. A delicious aroma and a wonderful high.

that is one heck of a hunka hash friend,, nice workin it. what'd that be worth ya think?? 40 x 20?? more??

revegging , sheesh , another dismal failure in the nivek garden this summer. not even a nibble,,, along with timers etc etc etc

i played surgeon on another golden tiger seed yesterday,,, it did not pop in two days so i took it out of the cup of water and lightly sanded the edge,, you know the drill

a very satisfying feeling to see it popped open next morning,, now safely planted. gonna clone this one,, oh,, and i had a successful clone lately,, another plus,, yay for success

chhers fer now weaseley,, chat soon

I sometimes wish the math worked that way Nivek. Funny, out of all my harvests it’s the hash that I tend to just give away the fastest. I keep a bit around to smoke for myself and to see if I can age it into something really good, but I guess there’s just something fun about tossing friends a chunk of hash for their birthday or at a party. Seems to disappear quick.

Next chance I get I’m going to try out a method I saw someone mention to sprout older seeds. Which involves leaving them in a jar of water with a bubbler going till they sprout. I do have some old Northern Lights seeds somewhere I meant to try to sprout again.

I had posted this video in one of my first journals. Since you're sprouting older seeds, thought you might be interested:

weaseley,, friend,, i am a bit emotional right now,, a brand new baby golden tiger just got it's first exposure to the light

humbling indeed

I put two 2018 Golden Tiger regulars in the sprouter last night along with an OGK/Thai cross (which sprouted and is already planted). Hoping for a remake of the original Thai-leaning GT I grew, which I liked so much. And possibly a male- which, if I get one, I will cross with everything in sight and hope for the best.

I think I’ve mentioned this problem before in this journal and got no bites. But I’ll try again. I started a thread on the issue - here. Anyone out there familiar with this problem besides me? Some sort of ‘dry mold’. It’s some sort of dry mold issue I occasionally get. Only on the Pineapple Chunk. That f&$€ing P Chunk... I harvested one today just to save what I could of it before it got destroyed completely. I’ve spent a bunch of time googling around and never came up with anything...

Weas. Just a sensless note. But that looks just like a cola i just had. Two even. On a plant that i let a cfl get right on top ok. Plain killed a toony size spot. Looked similar

I had a side shoot do that a couple harvests ago. The stem just below the bud had gone dry and had some white powder on it. The bud above it died and browned out.
