Vortex's Lab: 4x4 Secondary Garden & Experimental Thread

If it's really 22% in the buds you could probably go with 15%, but it's all guessing anyway without testing. So make 'em and see!

Pretty much. I figure most breeders go with “max” on percentages just like they go quick on flowering. More of a best case than average.

We’ll know more this weekend. So if I’m incoherent...

Off we go with what's still happening! Let's go backwards from least ready to most ready this time, m-kay?

l1.jpg

Here's Lemmy. I've kind of got her ovaled a bit in shape, and it's easier to see it with the crack baby having moved on up. That was while trying to squeeze her into a spot with as little interference to the others as possible.

See the red thing hiding in her? That's a cap from a milk jug to get a little perspective.

What, need more? Well, alrighty then. Heerrrrreeeee's Lemmy! (Auto Lemon Drop, from Oasis Genetics)...

l2.jpg

She seems to be filling in nicely. The buds are still swelling, and getting stickier/harder/denser by the day. Ol Blue even tried to photobomb the last pic with a nice bud. Back to Lemmy though, if she keeps this shit up I may be in for a nice surprise at the end, since she still has a month or so to go. Never count your chickens, but if she pans out it may have been worth burning through the duds for this. Enough so that if she's good, I would give her a go again, even if it took dropping 4 seeds to get 1 plant.

Next up, Blue! (Blue Dream'mattic, from Fast Buds)

blue.jpg

Speaking of Blue, how about a little better look?

She's starting to cannibalize herself, so the end is coming. She isn't going to be near that awesome pound that @farside05 pushed out, but should be pretty decent. I'll run her again at some point, and give her a bit more attention to detail to see how far I can push her.

Onto the Chica! (Mexican Airlines, from Fast Buds)

mx1.jpg

mx2.jpg

Here's the cap again, but this time hiding out in the presence of the Chica. She's coming around, and getting some nice colors to her flowers. As you can see she is also further along with cannibalizing herself, and if it's going to happen, at least she's throwing some interesting foliage to watch off the fans. I'd love to dry and keep a couple, but I'll have to see how their scent is. (Can't smell anything sealed in glass, dumbass. Hmmmm, maybe that's a thought.)

Finally, Six. (Six Shooter, from Fast Buds)

six.jpg

She has that look of demise to her. Pulling everything out of her leaves, and even hitting the sugar leaves. I'm going to have to keep an eye on her as she dries. At this rate there won't be much leaf material to help take up some time.

Not really sure why she's taking the sugars with her, but whatever. It's not light or anything like that, so it seems to be as simple as just doin what she wants I guess. She's had plenty of good food, nice water to drink, and some great lighting at the right distance. I looked at her trich's last night, and she isn't ready. Been trying for the last 2 days to get a good pic, but can't keep the hand with the scope steady enough to get one. Guess I got lucky with the last scope pics on the crack baby.

I'll keep trying though, and may have to engineer up some type of support stick to help with it. I even tried taking a video with the scope, just to see if I could at least get it steady enough for a second or two. Nah, it didn't turn out neither. :(

The short of it is even though I haven't seen anything signaling "chop me" yet, Six is probably within a week. Chica and Blue are maybe 2-ish weeks, and Lemmy has a good bit left in her (obviously.)

Something I forgot to mention on Six (and Chica, for that matter) that may go unnoticed in the pic(s)...

It's tough to see, but she's throwing new calyxes like crazy. Each bud has at least 1, most have 2 or 3. Fresh, green calyxes with new white pistils. Damn if she isn't trying hard to get all preggers. I'm keeping a sharp eye out for the odd nanner from her trying so hard, but she's close enough that it probably wouldn't even throw a seed in the short time left. I mean, I guess it's possible, just not probable. :D

Chica is looking interesting.

Agreed. I'm not putting a ton into getting great pics, but she is definitely interesting in her self mutilation. Her buds are looking nice, and they're quite dense as well. I'll see about getting out a real camera and trying to get some shots before long. Need to charge up a battery, and then will have to move pics off the card from the last time I used it.

I've been letting the temps at night creep into the mid-upper 60's, which I think (so far) has helped bring out a little color to them. :)

Daytime temps are 77-78ish.

Seems to be doing the trick, I think. It might be a hair early for the Lemon, but not out of whack by any stretch.

It's cold AF outside today (high is like 15 or some stupid shit) with lows last night and tonight around 0 or so. It's been fairly consistent downstairs though with room temps not going below 65.

I think they're alright. With the last couple weeks on the lemon, I may push a little lower, but not by much. Maybe as low as 63, but we’ll see.

:high-five:

To expand on that, now that I'm not posting from a phone, I think they're doing pretty well overall.

The Quadline kept height in check for the most part on all of them. The tallest is Lemmy. She's on the floor in a 3gal fabric pot. The rest are in 7gal fabric, and also on at least an 8" riser to keep up with Lem and her growth. She's still not overly tall, but obviously taller than the rest by a foot or there about.

My brother was over recently and was amazed at Lem. Said the same thing I've been on about if she fills out and makes it... then damn. For an auto, she has the potential to do really, really well. I attribute that to the quadline, as well as the amount of defol she was given while she vegged. It kept her flower at bay for a bit longer and let her get the oomph she needed to get it on.

The rest had some attention as well, but not to the extent she did. With my next auto run (should be mid-late March) I'll be testing that theory out and seeing what happens with them. It is the Lab, after all. So what would it be without some good old fashioned experimentation of some sort going on, right? :cheesygrinsmiley:

With a couple sticky AF fingers, decarb of the crack baby trim is under way! (Where’s my fucking grinder!!!???!!!!!)

50min @ 235F...

3E4BB88D-4989-4BB1-8E9A-8AA7B07F4059.jpeg

Starting weight: 2.27oz

Post decarb weight: 2.03oz

Trim has cooled off, time to simmer it on low for a few hours. :D

Crack Baby update: She’s dry enough to jar (not quite 6 days) so I did. Some might be a hair early, but most of it was good. Snipped off the buds, and into jars with a hygrometer and boveda 62% pack. (Actually a Boost pack, but whatev.)

Final score: 2.87oz

Not stellar, but more than I expected from the look of her when I chopped. Figure had I not broke an entire main node off, it would have been close to 4oz, so for an auto that’s ok. Not out of the park, but ok for fluffy buds like that I think.

Checked in on the other girls, and nobody wants to move out of the tent quite yet.

OK, so I took a little sample from the Crack Baby. Not much, just a small bud, probably half a gram. Might be enough for 3-4 pinch hitters worth.

First test: not bad for this stage. Not bad at all. Nice up to it, but not tweaked out. Just a nice, mellow flow. Will be good while making oil. Nice bit of motivation setting in. Once this cures, it's going to be just fine. :cheesygrinsmiley:

A little more staying power will hopefully come with the cure. After 2 hours, that was about it. Comments above still stand. A good cure and she’ll be on point.

Well, shit. I'm not sure what the deal is, but the coconut oil came out dark AF and didn't re-solidify overnight. Is it still going to be OK?

Here's the whole process I used:

- decarbed the trim (w/ a little scruff) in oven at 235F for 50min

- 2oz cannabis
- 2Cup coconut oil'
- 1tsp sunflower lecithin

- Melted the coconut oil in a saucepan, added the lecithin and trim. Stuck a candy thermometer into the mix, and kept it between 220F and 230F for 3 hours. (Time from when it came up to at least 200F, which was about 15min.) I stirred the mix every 15-20 minutes.
