Volksball's First Grow: White Widow Feminized Grow Journal 2018

PPFD meters run over $100 but a lux meter is good for what we want here. And...since you're running HPS, you can use an online calculator to get your PPFD from your lux. Difficult to do with blurple but not fixed spectrum lights like HPS, QBs, or strips.
Ha. Now we're getting into the acronyms and I'm lost. I'll do some research. It's never as easy as a thermometer, eh? Place. Read. Ha.

Well...ya can't! Which is why I decided to buy one. The good ones are about $30 with the sensor on a coiled cord. The ones with a fixed sensor are about $20. This is the one I got: Dr.Meter LX1330B.

The window screen will knock the lux down but the size of the gaps and the gauge of the wire will determine by how much. But with it you could turn the light back up to 1000w, prevent the burn, and increase the lux at the margins all at the same time.
Not the same model, but brand. Couldn't find the exact model.

Or 200k over 50k seems better?

Oh Canada! The second one is mine. If you can spring for it, go for that one.

I edited my post above with info about lux and PPFD.
Thanks. Yep, $45 CAD. I remember the day of the strong loonie. They'll return.

Maybe I start with that and see what needs.

And while were buying stuff, I was thinking that I need thermometer at canopy level. I have one on the scrog, but I can't imagine that's a great read covered in foliage. How do you get one right where you need it? In the middle of the action, at the height you need? Or is that even necessary?

Everyone hangs them from string! Seen in tents all over the site.
I thought I saw that, but only once, so again, the majority in my mind won. Haha. Perfect.

The online calculators will convert lux to PPFD for you, and a lot of websites will say that the closer you can get to 1000 PPFD the better. Over that and you need CO2 to increase the size of your buds.
Does this make any sense for a cost effective way to do it? It does mention 30-45 days to reach peak CO2 output. Might come too late.

Good morning, guys.

First week of flower is in the books.

I'm posting a whole whack of pictures from the morning with only my flash lighting the shots as you am requested @InTheShed. Sorry, there's 20 of them. 10 here and 10 in the next post.

There are a few good pictures of the damage from a few days ago. You may just have to look a bit closely. I didn't label those ones any differently as with a bit of closer looking, they're easy to find.

The pictures with an asterisk (*), are pictures of my back right plant (if looking from the front of the tent) that has forever been picky. This issue is different than the above mentioned. @Emilya suggested I up the nutes to the full recommended dose to take care of some issues, but it didn't do all. She is alot better, however. Under the HPS, the issues seem amplified, but under less lighting, she looks a bit better. I'm not sure what to believe. Maybe manganese? Magnesium? Iron? I dunno...nothing makes her happy. Ha

Thanks for having a look!
Day 83/7F.

K...that's it. Promise. Sorry if there are any duplicates. I felt like the more info I can give, the better we can figure out the whole story.

Thx again!

Some just get hungrier than others. I think your instincts are correct in noticing that those needs increased under the bigger light. At some point though, you just have to tell this little piglet that enough is enough.. its good enough for the rest of the room. Watch her closely.
I think I'm about there. If she thrives, she thrives. I will try, but not hurt the others in the process.

Thanks for checking in!

@volksball Awesome grow man! I have a very similar set up as you and I am on day 15 since I planted (started from seed). Nice to have this journal handy! Thanks for posting.
Thank you! Good luck!

Not sure if that's too late for CO2 but I do know that plants only benefit from excess CO2 if the PPFD is over 1000, so without the meter and the screening, it's hard to know for sure.

Also, with CO2 the vents need to be closed or the CO2 is sucked out into your house (even with them closed I don't advise hanging out in the same room as the tent). That might raise the temps in there higher than they want, though with CO2 the plants need higher temps and more food. It's a whole different way of growing.

In terms of feeding, more is better until you see tip burn, then back it off to the solution just before the one that made the tips brown!

Perfect thanks. I see a bit of tip burn, but not too badly, so I think I've got it about right.

In terms of CO2, I'll leave that for another day. It sounds more involved than a plug and play type addition.

The light meter is on the way, so I'll be able to see where my hot spots are by tonight! I'll figure.out a next step from there.

Thanks again!
