Volks Grow

Thanks CMX,
This is definitely a nice forum, it's also nice to have so many wheel growers offering their input. I have many other grows under my belt but this is my first turn at the wheel also. I was lucky enough when I purchased my wheel that it came with 2 binders of cataloged grows from the previous owner, he was very thorough in his note keeping. It's just like growing with a cookbook... Of course every recipe can be changed to suit ones own taste, but for now I am just following one of the recipes.

I am currently on day 3 of week 5 of flowering:

I hope I've done the pictures correctly, would have been nice to have better photo software, then again even if I did, not sure I would have the time to learn how to use it...lol

Strain : Jilly Bean
Nutes: AN
Lights: 2 600W Sunmaster HPS

Thanks again CMX, if I can be of any help I won't hesitate in offering my say for what it's worth.

Cheers,
OD

Pictures (and your wheel) look great. But it is policy here to not post images that are hosted off-site. You can upload them to the gallery here and then insert them into your posts from there.

You can read about how to do so in one of the links in my signature for future reference. I figure a moderator will stop by and upload the ones that you've already posted.

Looks like we've got more "Wheelers" here than I imagined.

Hello TS,
Thanks for the info, sorry for breaking the rules...:helpsmilie:
I will try to correct the problem, in the meantime if the pictures are taken down I will understand. Again I apologize for not making myself aware of the posting guidelines.
I think the "Wheelers" will need their own forum on here soon. I will go and read the rules for posting pics in the meantime. My Bad

Cheers,
OD

It's all good Brother

Looks like you've gotten them into the gallery ;)

and fantastic pics they are...

Interested in starting your own journal? I'll bet you get a bunch of subscribers ;)

How to Make a Grow Journal

OntarioDude, nice pics. Good to have another wheeler around. Ah the Omega Garden model 10001, it looks sooo shiny, you must be a good cleaner upper. How long have you had the unit? I sure hope you will consider gracing us with your presence here with your own journal.

Cheers,
Maxx

Nice, I like it! Any recipes you'd like to share? The machine looks great, plants are full and healthy, you certainly got a bonus with the journals being provided like that! My question is where do you get Jillybean? I heard that's the variety to have for this style grow (not to mention I heard it is great smoke). I have to say Mr.Nice is doing quite well, and even looks similar, though I have multiple varieties on hand that I would like to try, am growing the mothers now. I want an Omni Garden now too... lol.

Hey Maxx,
I read yours and WOF journals in their entirety. ++Reps for both journals. Very inspirational journals. Nice to see a community working together to achieve optimum results.

As for being a good "cleaner upper" I owe a lot to my better half. One advantage with the OG, it was built like a workhorse, stainless steel feeding tray, stainless steel wheel & RW channels, and powder coated. It's a well built unit that leaves little chance for anything to go seriously wrong. I am the second owner and I have had it since March. This is my first turn at it. As I had mentioned earlier, when I got the unit I was lucky enough to have the previous owner give me 2 binders chocked full of his grows, nutes used, and all kinds of tips and tricks he picked up along the way from his own growing experience.

I truly wish I had the time to do a journal as thorough as yours and WOF. I truly don't have a problem in sharing what works and what doesn't with the rest of the "Wheelers" out there. Especially the ones on this site, this is a very cool site and I find everyone very supportive of each others grows.

Maxx while I've got you here, can I ask what feeding schedule you were using? How many times a day and for what duration? I know there are different opinions when it comes to length and feeding duration. Like I mentioned in an earlier post the previous owner was adamant in his notes with all the various strains he grew, he concluded after 3 years of trail and error that the most productive results were reached with only feeding once a day and for only 1 rotation. Thus far I have had good growth and canopy coverage with little to no stretching following his feeding schedule.

All my clones were veg'd for 1 week and topped before placing them in the wheel, after 5 weeks of flowering I have a even canopy with all sites averaging 9" of growth from the RW.

CMX, I apologize for babbling on your thread, once I start typing I have to pull my fingers away from the keyboard.... lol

Thanks to PG, TS & Soniq for the warm welcome & making me aware of this sites rules for posting pics. :thankyou:

Cheers,
OD

K, I'll shut up now and relinquish the helm back to CMX. :nicethread: :cheertwo: :grinjoint:

Hello CMX,
Thanks for the nice comments. As for the "Recipes" I could share them all... Just where to start...lol Let me leaf through some of the notes and I will see what I find of interest..mind you to be honest I think both binders are packed with priceless info. It would take someone 3 years to compile all the info in these binders as that is how long it took the author to complete. All of his grows are cataloged from start to finish.

As for the JillyBean, if your from Canada you can get them easily from BC. Here is a little snip of the ad. I don't know if the mods allow me to post a link to another site, so you can PM me and I can give you a link to the site.

JillyBean:
This fruity potent delight was conceived by MzJill. The amazing OrangeVelvet turns breathtaking rich deep shades of burgundy and maroon and the flavor is an overwhelming orange. If you are looking for a smoke that will please all of your senses, this is the one for you. It has a nice mellow high, and tastes like you bit off a piece of the sunset and it melted in your mouth. This killer one of a kind phenotype was crossed with a select SpaceQueen male. The resulting Orange-Pineapple creation is one of the most exciting crosses available today.

Yes Mr. Nice Seedbank offers quite a variety of crosses. I have grown (soil) quite a few of the Nice strains and they are/were very tasty and fairly easy to grow.

After reading some of the info I received with my OG, I have to say that the most successful grows that were cataloged were short and busy strains with high indica dominance. The shorter and bushier the better for rotational growing.

Cheers,
OD

The more of us there are here, reporting our findings, the more effective we will all be individually. Glad to have you and your insight along for the grow.

boy oh boy I couldn't agree with you more!

If I only had an experienced wheel grower as a friend, he could hold my hand for a while. . .and boy I am good at learning if someone walks me thorough it and can give me tech support for a short while.

alas, I do not have a teacher which means a longer learning curve. . . but on the other hand, learning it on your own will give you unique insight to your unique setup and will sometimes lead to new and innovative solutions to problems that may be better than the tried and tested way of doing things.

anyways I really appreciate having so many roto growers here to talk with and learn from. it's harder to help over the net because its hard to notice peripheral things through pics and descriptions, but I usually like to walk my own path anyways. I usually end up getting to the top of the mountain, but I like the scenic route.

:thankyou:

OD,

would love to hear some words of advice from an old pro journal.

nice to see some more talent from the east rep'n these parts.

I think i can speak for all of us here when i say a once a week updated journal is a million times better than no journal. I hope you can find a way squeeze it in, i bet if you do you will be away all week at work just waiting to come home, check the progress and post. Taking pics becomes fun in itself. it can get addicting lol.

even if you can't find the time, welcome and glad you can be here.

cmx, hows the wheel hangin? co2 in yet? i have my co2 just sitting, waiting to be used. how are you dispensing it? i just have a tube sitting under the light pointing towards the middle.

Lol... back to the VG,

After ODs input, I fed this morning and was re-arranging the room all day. THe ladies all looked fine at the end of the day. I was thinking... if they only need to be fed once daily, I could mix nutes daily, feed for an hour and a half, and use the leftovers in my container plants.

I can't effectively use my co2 and manage heat at the same time. I was cooling the room with my ice box and 6" can fan, but my power meter spins fast enough already. I can open the window, crack the door, and there's a near constant breeze that cools the room and keeps the air fresh. I can hit them with a nice dose of co2 when the lights first come on (@8am), but by 10am it's pretty warm in there. I have a 50# co2 tank w/ a regulator/flow meter set at 1cfm, running on a timer set for 15min/h with lights on. I just had the flow tube stuck in the back of a fan to circulate it up and around. More tomorrow, tired tonight, hasta banana... or something.

I think if i were to ever run co2, i would have to nearly saturate the room during dark hours so as not to have to worry about venting good money to the outside cause of light heat.

Once you get a tank and regulator, co2 is relatively inexpensive. I fill my 50# tank about every 45 days and it cost $30. I can definitely see the difference in the mornings, it looks like all the plants are reaching for the ceiling!!! I had read that using co2 the first hour the lights are on, is the most beneficial anyway. As far as I can tell, it works nicely. :ganjamon:

Day 19: I changed the room around again, I love how easy it is to move the VG. The only cooling I'm using is a medium size room fan, I don't have it moving, just blowing across my bulb, and the upper plants. I removed the res., no more pump, air stone or anything else running, aside from the VG motor, the light, and a fan. Awesome, simplicity at it's best. I filled the flood tray with 6 gallons of nutes 1000ppm 5.8 pH@21c, once the VGs had a few turns, I'll drain it and feed my container plants. I've got some observations that are more easily explained with pics, that I will post shortly. Back to it!

So my observation wasn't all that grand after further observation...:bong:
I thought the VG was influencing the seedlings I placed in it more than it was. I am growing the same seeds in soil as a reference, and it appears my home-made varieties are going to be short squat plants. :cheertwo: Here's some pics:

Feeding once a day is working fine, everybody looks happy! They like it, I love it. Thanks for the tip OD!!!!!:thankyou: For you my friend:RoorRip
