Vetsmoke's Micro Growing Shenanigans

Thanks buddy. Sounds like you had a great time with the family. Much needed I'm sure. The realisation that we could lose him was the worst feeling I've experienced by a long shot. Thankfully he's a tough kid and the medical staff did an incredible job. He was in a very severe state of ketoacidosis. Normal blood sugar should be 4-7 and his was greater than 40. Ketone levels over 3 requires urgent medical treatment, his was greater than 15. He was in a bad way. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes now. So we can manage it but it's going to be tough for us all to manage for a while until it becomes second nature.

Red Leader has been a pain in the arse from the off pretty much but will get her to harvest. She smells great now and may be tiny but fattening up nicely. Red 2 hasn't been as grumpy so I should get a nice little top up stash off her. Looking forward to getting the gorilla glue photo started in a few weeks.
Its good to hear your son is doing better and will recover. Diabetes is pretty easy to manage. Hardest part to get used to is the diet. Hopefully someday they will find a cure.

Not much change for Red Leader really. Red 2 is getting taller and needs feeding pretty much every day now.
These are beautiful. Love the color.

I'll have a contender for nug of the month. Maybe.

She's definitely pretty enough to possibly win you some goodies!
Everyone likes purple nugs!

Decisions, decisions. I do want to try the really cheap LED panel in the flower tent but also know deep down that I'll end up upgrading it before long. I can get the below light in 3000K for £71 with shipping. From what I can tell Kingbrite have so far gained a half decent reputation. Thinking I should probably just order it now and fit it before I start using the tent rather than messing around later.

Big picture update. Red Leader is at 8 weeks today. Breeder states 9 weeks seed to harvest and I think that will be fairly accurate. Loads of white pistils still but looking at the trichomes she's getting close. Hard to get good pictures but tried my best.

Red 2 is still yellowing like her big sister did. Just leaving her to it now. Ha ha.

Here's the family tucked up back in bed. Oh and what do we have snuggled up in the corner there? Gorilla Glue seed had popped a taproot so she's gone into a cup inside a little propagator.

So I've been looking at a custom light build for the flower tent. Think I'm going for the LED strips below that I'll mount on a 2mm aluminium plate.

10 x Bridgelux EB. Gen 2 280mm strips
BXEB-L0280Z-35E1000-C-B3
3500K
Forward voltage = 19.5V
Max Current = 700mA
Nominal drive current = 350mA

Then I'm looking at two options for the driver. Both Meanwell.

LPC-150-700

Now hopefully I'm correct in thinking I could fit a potentiometer so I'm not driving them full whack. Probably around the 500mA range to get around 98W but could be cranked up to 136W.

Or the LPC-100-500 which would run at max 98W.

Not sure if the max voltage output on both those drivers is cutting it a bit close for 10 strips though. Could do 8 strips I guess which would give me 78W run at 500mA.

Will cost me £80-85 All in with all the wire, connectors, thermal tape etc.

All priced up at £90. Think I'll go for it. Haven't found any other lights that I'd trust and can provide 68-136 true watts. A mars TS600 would be a bit cheaper but not as powerful and it wouldn't quite fit in the tent anyway. Plus this way I can build it in a way to maximise coverage within the space.

Man I don't know shit about putting an LED board together hahaha! But I will have to learn someday
Loads of good guides online. Calculators and such to help you select the right drivers. They tend to recommend the more expensive ones though so I'm having to do some calculations to make sure a slightly cheaper driver can handle my design. Now I'm thinking about layout. May hang 6 strips in the top next to the carbon filter and 4 strips underneath it.

In case it interests anyone here's a couple of layout designs for the LED strip project. For the top design the 5 strips on the right would need to be at a lower level below the carbon filter. The bottom design could probably have 6 in the top of the tent and 4 below the carbon filter. Either way they'll be split onto 2 aluminium sheets. Got some watts per sq ft info on there too. Drawn roughly to 1/4 scale.

Here's a few specs on the driver and calculations for power. The V is total fV for 10 strips. The max I'd ever run them at is 600mA I think.

Well the Gorilla Glue girl popped up to say hello. Upside down  FFS. Carefully dug her out with tweezers and spun her around. Casing was still pretty much fully closed and the taproot was around 10mm. Hopefully caught it in time and she's going to be okay.

Just walking through the warehouse at work and noticed a tall office drawer cabinet in a scrap cage. Brain instantly says 'ooh I could make a grow cabinet out of that'. Stop it

You're not alone mate. It do be like that.

Even my GF's got the bug now. The new dehumidifier arrived this morning, and we were both like, "ooohhh that's a fine cardboard box!"

Yeeeaaaaahhhh!!!! Congratulations!! :cheer::circle-of-love:

I really want to pop the GG4 rendition I have by Humboldt... Having a hard time deciding tbh.

There should be a helpline

I got a couple free with my last order. Black Skull ones. Should be well suited to my plan and last time I had some gorilla glue it was strooooong. :passitleft:
