Very Late Southern Hemisphere Terrace Grow From Bagseed - Complete N00b

The plants have been doing quite well. Seems like they're settling in happily.

Here they are getting ready for their extra hours of shitty supplemental light, which at least keeps them 'awake,' so to speak.
(and honestly - if they started flowering now, I wouldn't mind)

A bit closer.

And then the difference between this purple-stemmed plant (in front) and all of the others.
I know cold and stress is supposed to have something to do with this, but this one has been receiving the same care and attention as all the others...

Could it be a strain thing?

Looking good buddy, Aussie farmers are getting numbers to them, hopefully we take the Canadian approach and just get on with it already. Plants are looking pretty good, im on the other side of Aus but the plants seem to do pretty good considering the season. The purplish stems could be from LeD lights, strain gene or nute deficiency. They look pretty healthy, considering the soil mix .I use coco and the plants love it, they blast away inches each day. Bunnings sells it by the brick, ends up much cheaper than bags of soil. My girls nearly all have purple stems, unless they are in the warmer seedling tent, I'd lay it down to the cold even.. you'll be flowering end of winter, I'd suggest getting a cheapish LED panel off eBay (Mars Hydro), you'll probably regret not doing it, the buds will be airy and you'll get 1/2 the yeild with our short, cold days.
Subbed in for ya ride bud ✌️️ feel free to check my journal

Heh, I'm in South Africa, but we've got pretty much the same setup weather wise.

As for the lights, they're pretty much just there to get this lot through winter.
They get their REAL light in direct sunlight central (my patio) for a solid 10 hours, before I bring them inside for the extra light.

Instead of lights for flowering, I'm probably rather going to have to implement some kind of light dep come spring...

Thanks for subbing!

Just read that bit about the coir and soil mix . sorry when you said SA and winter i thought Aus . but yeah I saw a climate relative map and we have near identical weather . all the best, try to schedule your flower period as best as possible, last thing you want is ladies with dude bits from light leaks in schedule ✌️

Another timeous update... .

With a move coming up, I've had to farm out most of the garden to friends.

These are the remaining girls. This pic was taken after their first week of 12/12 BTW (necessitated by the aforementioned change in situation).

420-magazine-mobile1108154305.jpg

The preflowers were starting to come out when I had to cull, but it seems I picked out all girls, as they've all sprouted pistils by now.

Pistils or no, this one has some rather male-looking bits on a lower node, but it's still too tiny to be sure... Keeping a close eye.

OK, so another week of 12/12! Since we've been leaving the house before dawn, and coming back after sunset, I haven't really gotten chance to see the girls this week.

Other than still being exceptionally purple, number 5 seems happy. This one is my main concern, as far as herming goes.

She's got the lady bits going for her so far, but she has proven to be a bit more sensitive than the others...

Number 11 is a little behind the others, what with being the only remaining of the younger Indicas I took over.

I'm pretty sure it's a girl, but there are preflowers on this one that already look as if they could go either way...

Nothing much to say about number 1 (the original plant from the orange pot), other than happily flourishing.

And then number 20 seems to have been going a little purple - probably because of the chilly mornings she's had to endure lately. Nothing serious though - it seems to be going away already.

It's probably just me, but I feel like I need to make note of the fact that a complete n00b to growing (anything), has managed to get these (remaining) plants through winter - and into flowering! Yay!

The funny thing is that there's about 20 days left before spring officially starts... #doublegrow #chuffedAF

...now to get them to harvest. Onwards!

Being about two weeks into flowering, I thought it might be a good idea to defoliate the girls a bit.

420-magazine-mobile1406432371.jpg

Seeing as they get their light from the sun, I only took off yellowing or significantly damaged leaves, along with a few fan leaves that were throwing obvious shade over some bud sites.

Even with not going overboard, this still seems like a reasonable heap of fan leaves - I'm assuming it's still too early for then to be useful for anything?

Just to prove that we CAN actually have some kind of winter this year, nature decided to hit us with a bit of a cold front. So the last three days have been seriously cold, particularly in the mornings (1°C-ish lows, 12°C-ish highs - not great).

I got to see some of the O. G. plants that went to friends after The Culling, but I'm guessing they didn't get the right light schedule...

All of them hermies.

So now that's been my main concern - these girls turning into boygirls because of the cold stress from the last few days...

At least there are no problems that I can see... yet.

Oh, yeah... I'm guessing the pm doesn't work as I haven't posted more than 50 times. Yet.

For lighting I initially made this setup:
420-magazine-mobile460965891.jpg

This was only to give them a few extra hours of ANY kind of additional light going through the shorter winter days - seeing as they got (and still get) their primary light from the sun, out on the patio.
I also eventually added two more of these CFLs... I'll have to check the wattage to be sure for you.

Currently I'm actually not lighting my plants at all - in fact, now that the days are getting longer I've had to start some light dep...

So for no hermies!

Preaching to the choir bro. I had them on 18/6 since April. Switched to 12/12 a little over a month ago.

Managed to check on the globes for you too:

Nothing you'd really use for a legit indoor grow though.
