Looking good Amigo.
Great idea on the straw.
Do you find that pot stays cooler/ moister longer in the sun?
Take care.

Compadre

We had a slight drought period around here, May was awful for lack of rain but awesome for maximum sun. I had to do something to control the evaporation on my medium.

Farm has like 60 bail of hay that went sour (mold) over winter and can’t be used for animal feed, so I’m sourcing it to mulch. I find it does the job, it keeps the moisture in the soil. I don’t water to run off.

First time trying this, seems to be doing the job. Draw back is the hay seeds growing everywhere now all over my garden beds lol I’m a high priced target now for the goats around the farm. I’m on goat watch every day lol one entry point the whole 20 beds are gone.

One love brother, good vibes 😎

Did the deed this morning;

Overcast with a mid 20s on the thermometer, watering roots and foliar for the ones in the pots. Just watered the ones in the ground no foliar. When I say water it means tea, sort of like a feeding schedule so that’s why I don’t water to run off, I want the medium to be dry every 2-3 days that’s for pots, ground is another game. I just go with what plants tell me. Lots of ants 🐜 coming up and down taking bites here and there, found one spider nest, blasted 💥, no other issues. Everything is on a turbo mode. Happy growing.

Kinda skeptical about this being an actual Pink kush cultivar. But it grows good and healthy.

Also slight doubts about this cultivar too, stem rub gives a lemon smell to it but the pheno is not what I expected. I like the SLH Mel has going. Anyway grows good looks more indica than the Pink kush next to it. I am pretty sure this was growing indoors.

Mine is a cross of SLH and a couple other strains. The breeder might be coming back as a sponsor soon, so I might be able to post full info on it sometime.

This one is showing exactly what the last years pheno showed, same vigorous growth, massive side branching, pointy leaf with a darker tone as they age. Takes training like a champ. I arrow pointed what seems to be a sex reveal? Could it be? This early? It will soon unfold, camera can’t handle that close up. Seen 2 phenos do this, I’m stoked.

Ohh yeah I blasted them with training…

The Durban is got her appeal my Captain; which of the 2 Durban phenos you like the most? Pot or ground?

The nest had eggs in there but fresh, could have been overnight, I didn’t see that yesterday. It’s all good I rubbed it out of there with my green thumb lol

I would be very happy finding a green pheno from a typical purple strain. Most of them are more potent than their purple counterpart. Purple traits is a genetic defect after all, sometimes for the better but most often for the worse.

A fully green plant with all of it's chlorophyll left is better at converting light through photosynthesis. Purple plants has a narrower spectrum of Cannabinoids and this may actually be desirable in felt effects for some. Cheers!

Took a couple leaves blocking new shoots at the main site and I used them to show myself a better image of the phenos;
204F4CA4-E4E4-44C7-87B0-A85E07A8CCEB.jpeg

All taken at on 5th node where most of the pheno traits start to appear right, most of you start applications or strategies at 5th node or around. That’s where I also start to see pheno expressions.

My current Duterte’s pheno is not the male parent but bares the same geno trait and pheno trait as these f1 crosses I have today. See at the PSf1XFM and the current Duterte have almost identical leaf. The Durban phenos both have 9 point leaflets tho one slightly wider than the other, and size too. I would suppose I have 2 completely different phenos leaning both towards the Durban mon genotype.
I don’t see the Filipino dad in the leaf but I do see the vigor and side branching on the Durban pheno in the pot.

I’m still chewing and learning, taking my time to see the small little details. There is way more to see like who preflowers first, who finishes first, size of buds, smell, pest resistance…. Trichome development, Color of pistils… the list is endless and that’s just pheno traits…
I won’t bore anyone with all the list of stuff you gotta look for.

I’m assessing leaf because that’s what I got right now, and training response, growth vigor, side branching.

Which takes me to my next set of photos;

They bounced back up in a day. I got most of the shoots slightly above the apical dominant branch/cola, so I’m looking for them to bulk on hormones while the main regains control. That’s how I shape all my plants, and works every time. Great airflow inside the plant, great amount of tops develop a sizeable branch so it can feed the bud sites, not only feed but support their growth.

My last one for the day;

The one auto in advanced flower mode I plucked one leaf out every node starting 1 until 5th, this is phenotypic plasticity by definition.
Since is started growing this pheno I have seen it change the shape of the leaf, also throw out monoecious sexual parts due to high stress training.
I’m just pounding her to see what’s the outcome. Ruderalis coming out and Sativa coming out. I know nothing about Autos LoL not a stretchy pheno actually somewhat compact. I know nothing about it :lot-o-toke:

Buds in June that’s a first for me.

The auto with the reservoir showing pistils pretty obvious now, haven’t done anything else to it after seeing the reaction from the other one.

This hybrid is more uniform, I don’t multiple types of leaf patterns. Also the training hasn’t been the same. Lots of variables here.

6th node bract/calyx just missing the pistil. Doesn’t look male at this stage. It’s the second season this Durban genotype is grown in this location (49th parallel), it should know its way around the season and how to deal with Canadian weather. The genotype mom showed a well developed Calyx/pistil at end of May last year; the sex reveal this year is about a week behind but also not the same starting period. Its about right she should be showing as the mom did. So early to show sex could it possibly be the early finisher as well, outstanding quality for anything grown up north.

Sorry for my late reply to this post; I personally haven’t found an exciting and remarkable reason to have a purple trait to a plant. I always thought of it being superior but to be honest is extremely appealing and people like it… so they breed (who ever knows and can) the purple Color to a plant. I have only done that once with a purple traiwreck cross I played around with back several years ago.

The pheno looks totally different than anything I was growing at that time but but not at all a big yielder, and the one pheno seem to have a hard time with lock out and nutrient deficiencies, susceptibility to cold weather… it’s was purple alright, purple stems but all the other bad traits, she got put aside.

The Durban pheno I had last year kinda went purple at the end but not something I’m particularly aiming for, it just happens to some when the temperature hit 15 Celsius or lower. It’s a reaction to the cold weather and if that is prolonged the plant starts to suffer nutrient lock out.

That’s the purple trainwreck cross I had long time ago.
