UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GSC

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

Very good selection of seeds! I am trying to save up to get some Black Domina. Not very high in THC but great narcotic effect, amazing for sleep! Good luck, I'll have to read through the journal to get caught up.
GB80

To be honest I've never had a sample of the Black Domina. I have had the pleasure of sampling several Black Dom crosses over the past couple of years and they were all heavy hitters. This leads me to believe that she'll be a good candidate for use in future breeding projects.

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

Yes its a beautiful Friday here today. Suns up, skies clear, humidity finally dropped...and I feel good ;) I may even gather up some things from the garage, go to a friends place and weld up frames for a couple new worm bins :)

Drying Tent Update - End of Day 5

Temps: 60 to 65 degrees F
RH: 50 to 55%

Things are going better than expected with the 2nd drying cycle. It's been overcast most of the week so I've been able to maintain lower temps than would normally be the case with clear and sunny skies out. This has resulted in a bit slower dry which I'm extremely pleased about.

Stems are still pliable but I'm beginning to feel a slight snap when testing stems for bending/cracking. This is the point where I like to prune the buds off of the stems, do a final touch up manicure, then put em' in jars.

Some of you may be asking yourselves, I wonder why UncleC is transferring his buds to jars before the stems crack when bending them?
Well I'll go ahead and save you the trouble of asking.

I like to transfer to jars at this point in order to drag out the drying time a bit longer which results in a smoother smoke later on.

There are some critical steps and precautions that must be taken when doing this.
1. VERY IMPORTANT - You must be able to move the buds around in the jars and check for any signs of mold or mildew every 2 to 4 hours for the first 2 days or so after moving to the jars.
2. This part of the process which will take about 2 days is also done in a controlled environment with temps at 60 to 70 degrees and RH at about 50 to 55%.
3. When first moving to the jars the covers remain off for the first day. Buds get moved around or fluffed every few hours (see item 1 above).
4. When the buds begin to feel dry when giving them a light squeeze but not dry to where any of the dry material cracks then it's time to place the covers onto the jars but not sealed up tight. Just loosely place the covers on the jar or lids on the containers while leaving a small crack for any moisture to dissipate from the jars or containers. Continue with item 1.
5. After leaving the lids on loosely for about 1 day I then go ahead and seal the lids.
6. For the first week of cure I like to open the jars up and burp them (leave top off for about 30 seconds to a minute then replace) about 4 times per day.
7. Week 2 of curing I will burp the jars a minimum of 2 times per day.
8. Week 3 and beyond. Burp the jars once or twice per week if possible.

**Note - If RH cannot be maintained at 60% or lower and temps 72 degrees or lower I would not recommend using the above method due to increased risk of mold or mildew.

Now onto some pics.

Amnesia / Soviet Ripper Bloom Update - Week #11

I was thinking that my Amnesia girl had about another week or so to go but around Tuesday she started letting me know that she was about ready to give up her cozy spot over in the corner and face the guillotine.
Maybe she's not getting along with new girls that just moved in. I know she was looking really comfortable until Miss Vanilla K moved in and started crowding her. I'm not sure who's been crowding who really but it's obvious that they dislike each other.

The Soviet Ripper girls are also looking like they're ready to get off the roller coaster and call it quits.
Pistil color began changing about 2 weeks ago followed by some curling and receding then they started throwing a few new pistils again a couple of days ago.
Because all of her trichs are cloudy and I'm seeing a few ambers hiding out here and there I think I'm going to go ahead and take them down along with Miss Amnesia and let the new girls have the place all to themselves.

Thanks for the feedback and advise buddy. Much appreciated.
:thankyou:

With friends like you, Griz, and Celt who needs IT skills?
:high-five:

I guess it's safe to go ahead and get the next journal started soon.
Now if I could only decide which seeds from the new order to run first. Decisions, decisions.....

I'm drooling here Uncle! That all looks amazing! I love your journals, they are a reference guide in themselves. Most times I have questions I always refer back to one of your journals. :thumb:

Dry / Cure Round 2 Update -

Well the second round of the this harvest has now been de-stemed, manicured, and put into containers.
Before moving along with the update I'd like to highlight what I feel are the essential tools that are required for this task.

3 of the most important items that are required are:
1. A smoking hot & fresh cup of coffee
2. A joint, pipe, or bong (bowl preloaded before beginning task)
3. Lighter or matches
thumb_IMG_1472_1024.jpg

Number 4 on the list of required essentials for me is some good tunes.
Todays tunes were Alpha, Mike, Foxtrot - Rare Tracks 1994 to 2014 by Wilco.

The next items that are also must haves are:
5. Pruning scissors and/or hand pruners
6. Container to trim over to catch the leaf matter and trichomes that will fall off of the buds while trimming
7. Containers with lids that have a good seal to put trimmed buds into

thumb_IMG_1471_1024.jpg

thumb_IMG_1467_1024.jpg

And last but not least......one cannot manicure buds without buds.

All jarred up and placed on the shelf for final dry and cure.
thumb_IMG_1484_1024.jpg

Running talley for this harvest is 579 grams
Round 1 harvest = 178 grams
Round 2 harvest = 401 grams
Total to Date = 579 g.

After cleaning up and spraying copious amounts of air freshener I went ahead and tossed the stems along with some used coffee grounds and egg shells into one of my many compost/soil containers.

thumb_IMG_1490_1024.jpg

thumb_IMG_1492_1024.jpg

A bit later I went ahead and took down my drying rack and moved the remaining Ripper's and the one Amnesia girl into the now available space.

The drying tent now becomes the harvest preparation tent. :high-five:

thumb_IMG_1464_1024.jpg

thumb_IMG_1466_1024.jpg

I then removed all of the twist ties from all of them and just let the buds support themselves the best that they could.
This is so that I can harvest in the dark later without needing any light.

I then went ahead and zipped up the tent and will leave these last 3 girls in the dark for about 24 to 48 hours before harvesting them.

Once I caught my breath and had a good meal and a break I then went ahead and took the girls out of the Ganja Grove and gave the place a good thorough cleaning with a water/bleach solution.

The girls then got put back into the Grove and were given a good neem bath before lights out.

It's been a busy but fun filled day friends.
I've been thinking how extremely lucky I am to be home during this time and not away for work as I had feared might happen.

Those who have been tuning in for a while know good and well what kind of chaos the garden gnomes are capable of causing in the Ganja Grove when UncleC leaves home for more than a week or so....
:rollingeyes::yikes:

Peace out friends!

Hey UnkyHerb lookin good!
How do you find your plastic storage containers compare to glass? Do you get any weird flavours/smells some people are afraid of (like me)? I'm guessing no....
Or are they glass and I should put my glasses on...?

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

Hard floors are not a friend of glass jars and buds and broken glass sure don't go well together either.
I've found this out the hard way so stopped using them long ago and switched over to food grade BPA free plastic containers.

I clean them very good then scrub them with a baking soda solution before using. I don't find that it has any effect to the taste whatsoever.

If you do give plastic a try just make sure that you use BPA free food grade plastic and make sure that the seal type is good.
And remember that if it doesn't say BPA free then it's not BPA free.

Uncle C, you have a really great system, efficient. I can wrap my OCD head around that and found more things to add to my shopping list.

Thanks for the compliment Griz. I knew that this spare tent was going to come in handy come harvest time. It takes up valuable space when not being used but I'm not sure what I would have done without it to be honest.

Keep on keepin' on 420 friends.

Re: UncleC's Ganja Grove - Organic Soil - LED - SOG - La Chocolat/Vanilla Kush/LSD/GS

Yeah those gnomes, can really prune... :(
I'm curious what you'll think of that GHS Jack Herer. I grew it a while back and it was a real flop. Definitely some of the problem could have been in the growing-and the bud looked alright, but was fluffy and tasteless and just made me feel stupid. I gave it to a friend and he gave it to his friends and they gave it back (incredible that they would give back free herb!). I still have it- the bud that is, not the plant, which I pulled. I'll render it down. And someday get the 'real' Jack from Sensi seeds.

Amnesia & Soviet Ripper - Final Harvest Day -

Time Since Flip -
11 Weeks

Well today was the big day that the last of the 3 old ladies were introduced to the guillotine.
They had been moved out of the Ganja Grove and into the empty drying tent about 2 days ago and were left in the dark for about 36 hours before being chopped.

The last 2 chops my home was reeking of MJ so much I think someone could have caught a buzz just hanging out outside the door. Seriously, it was ridiculous.

In an attempt to help mask the smell this time, about 30 minutes before I began chop-n-trim I put some rib eyes with lots of garlic, onions, lots of seasoning, and just a pinch of some secret sauce from the Ganja Grove in a pan, covered it with aluminum foil, then tossed that baby into the oven.

I let the rib eyes slow cook at 225 degrees F while doing my chores and the plan worked out just as I had hoped.
:thumb:

The smell of food cooking filled the whole house and masked the MJ smell without having to use any air freshener.
The room where I was working reeked of MJ as one would expect but on the other side of the door the scent of MJ was barely noticible. This will be part of the routine from now on.

Here are a few pics of the days activities.

Now that all of the work was done it was time to take the old baskets out of the drying tent and get it cleaned up and ready to hang the harvest.

Whew!!! I'm really glad that that's over and done with.
If there were anymore girls left to chop and trim I can assure you that it would have gone into the compost bin.

In about 5 days everything should be dry enough to do final manicure and move to containers for curing.
Until then it's just a matter of monitoring for mold and waiting on the dry.

Have a great day :420: friends.
