Tok's First Mushroom Diary - Medical First/Recreation

Wow, thank you for stopping by @Ramblinrose1965 @JohnnieJC3 and @CaptainLucky.

I am not used to having visitors in my dairy, but I must admit it is nice for a change.

One thing I see all the newbies doing is trying to grow too many varieties all at once. I think everyone should try growing just one type and choose one that is easily grown and stands up well to contamination.
I totally agree @Ramblinrose1965 , my mistake was trying to do more; with not enough knowledge to make it to the finish line. One of the problems I have is too many different type spores, and with a limited life span; I try to use them up before they go bad. They are being stored in the veggie drawer of a refrigerator. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate winning all the different spores, but would like to use them before they go bad. That is why I am going to buy more AIO bags; or maybe I should buy jars?

@JohnnieJC3 thank you for your insight and explanation of the mushroom situation as a whole.

@CaptainLucky and @Ramblinrose1965 being a beach bum sound fun, but I never had the opportunity.

I was in the military for 25 years of my life starting in 1972 for 8 years got out and rejoined in 1989 to 2006. I have been around the world a couple of times. I live in Hawaii and Japan for a while and have been to many different countries multiple times like Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippines Islands live there for a while also, Australia more than 10 times and many more. But at that time I was not getting high eithers, national security reasons.
I did but a kilo of hash in Bangkok in 73 to bring home, that was great.

No real progress to report on the mushrooms at this time. Just standing by waiting and tending to them.

Thanks again for stopping by everyone.

I had a friend that had a brother who was stationed in Germany in the 80s. He brought back some hash that was unbelievable. Said he was buying it from an Iranian. He was a Sergeant and he got high but then it was a different time. CL🍀

The similarities between your military career and mine are insane!

Different years, but duty stations are identical. LoL

When I lived in Puerto Rocko (Flintstones refrence) my friends had visited Nepal and brought a big chunk of hash back with them. Those were fun times for sure. Love to hear about everyones travels and stories.

That's funny @Preston9mm

How have you been?
I noticed your garden is doing quite well.

I am still learning my way around the mushroom growing, but things do appear to be looking better.
Will you be growing any mushrooms anytime soon?

TR
I'm doing well. Running ragged at work, but life is great.

I plan on doing some mushrooms soon, just trying to get thru the wife's holiday spending before I buy anything.

My son recently started a bag with Golden Teacher spores. He's seeing the beginning of mycellial growth now. I'll try to get a few pics if he gets em off the ground. 🤙

Hope you're doing great! Sending good vibes from TX.

Never made it down to Puerto @Ramblinrose1965 , but hit all the best stoner countries in the early 70's.

Off the top of my head here are a couple.
Thailand - anything I want.
Philippines was good for some herb. Have been to a few of the Islands.
Taiwan was upper and downers sheets of a 100 for a nickel a pill.
Africa good smoke, Australia good for smoke and so many more countries.
When you said Africa.....all I can think of is Richard Pryor ... when the cook sprinkles his African Ganja in the food for the dinner party. I can't remember the movie but he freaks lol.

After the new year when I have more time, it's been hectic at the end of the season with my business and what not. Had a few bumps in the road here @ 420, but I'm a move forward type of person and don't hold grudges. Sometimes I can hold on for dear life when I'm trying to make a point, but hindsight being 20/20, it's a let it go situation and wasn't that big of a deal in the first place. I realized that it's easy to take something personal when it's addressed to you, but at the end of the day, and I know this from being a sole proprietor... that it's JUST business. I appreciate you asking @Tok, MushLuv to you and your projects.

Check out what happens when you don't compress the edges as well as the middle of the sub. Most of my work has been uncased in the past, but casing is worth it in my dry area, it's just easier(to manage) and better healthier fruits. This is actually a straw sub, I don't do too many with chopped straw and gypsum, but part of the thrill for me is trying new things. These are Avery's Albino and the rest of the flush came in very soon after harvesting most of the side fruits. These aren't side pins, more like, side casing fruits.

Here is another tub that did the same thing, fruited mainly on the sides first, then the actual pinset came in. Some wonderful PE fruits. Alright ya'll, figured I'd share my misstep, it happens, especially dialing in cased tubs, versus micromanaging the surface of an uncased sub. Uncased you have to keep the surface with beads, cased, DO NOT mist, it will only slow things down or not fruit at all. Golden nugget for the day, get out of your own way. :peace:

Those Fruits are Beautiful! That cluster in the last picture look like Golden teachers.

Back in the 80's we used straw that would be colonized from grain spawn. Then we would cover the straw with a peat moss mixture once the straw was colonized. No SAB or flow hoods just a spray can of Lysol in a small bathroom and just always hoped for the best. lost lots of spawn jars but still managed to grow enough for us and to trade for weed.

When I first started out back in 2010, I would shoot (spore) syringes open air with a flamed needle with hvac system/fans off. With a self-healing injection port, makes it all possible. I can tell you from trying different spots in my house (SAB) that the bathroom is the worst choice. Anything near water isn't a good idea, I ended up sticking with the spot that works consistently and for me that's the kitchen table. Stay away from windows that may possibly leak air, and water sources, kitchens, bathrooms, mud rooms etc....

@Ramblinrose1965 You got to love the barter system of trade, among stoners.

@JohnnieJC3 I guess the main thing is the ventilation is off and there is no air movement.
I have used both kitchen and bathroom not picky; just looking for the easy one to clean/sterilize and get ready.
I have a dedicated room. My girlfriend and I call it the Laboratory. You have to say it as if you were on:rofl:set of the Classic movie Young Frankenstein. LOL Got the 4x2 tent in there too.
