Tired Of LED’s, Using The Sun To Grow Trees

Good morning 420 fam! It’s been a crazy week of fluctuating temps and weather conditions. We had record breaking high temps of 105 for a few days in a row followed by 2-3 days in the mid 70s with overcast and flood warning type rains that are makin it a lil hard on your boy LED and his ladies. We will get through this together though I’m confident lol.

I’ve encountered many, many, many issues before while growing this plant over the past ten years or so. Just when I think I start to get things down a curveball is always waiting for me somewhere at sometime. Which brings me to where I am now. With the high temps I was watering my plants every day, these last two rain storms that came back to back and lower temps put a damper on the groove we had going on lol.

the pots got drenched despite my efforts, we got almost an inch of rain in less than 2 hours lol. I haven’t watered them In almost a week. Most of them seem okay, one of the crashers is showing signs of what looks like What could be over watering. Hopefully this next heat wave we are going to have in the next few days will dry them out! Gotta love Mother Nature!

We’ve had the same weather - very crazy! From the one photo, your’s don’t look too bad.

I’m glad I have mine in hempy buckets with 100% perlite. I just poured out the reservoir full of rain water, and gave them a fresh fertigation. Good to go without waiting for them to dry out!

I thought I would stop by and see what you had going on this year, very nice set-up. We have a little more in common, we are growing out of the same 65 gallon bags as well. I am going to put mine on individual 2"x4" frames covered with chicken wire in an effort to keep them off the ground, is that a thing that needs to happen? I was told it was better if they were not on the ground. I am a rookie so if I ask questions that sound simple it's because I am LOL

I can see some advantages of the hempy vs what I am doing. It’s only been about a month and you’ve pointed out several things to me. The ability to move them in certain situations is for sure something I like. Shade when there is heat and shelter when there is rain. I’ve always liked the idea of other growing mediums I’ve just always been partial to good soil.

I was also given a vanilla frosting clone that will be joining the grow soon so we can compare those as well. As far as keeping the bags on ground goes All I can say is I will let you know? This is my first time growing in bags this large. I have my 100 gallons sitting on top of an old gardening bed. My 65 are on a platform on wheels I made to move on my patio. We will see how each does

I got lucky. Thunderstorms all around us - my friends in Livermore got dumped on, my son who is only about 10 miles away got a good downpour, but I didn't see a single drop of rain.:adore: At least your plants weren't in flower yet.
I was told it was better if they were not on the ground.
I know for me, if I don't raise them off the bark I get mold & fungus growing beneath the pots and eventually the roots grow through the bottom and into the bark/ground.

I am contemplating putting wheels on my 2"x4" frames as well, they are going to weigh a ton wet and it would be nice to be able to reposition them as time passes. It is my first grow with fabric pots, it's my first grow with 65 gallon pots and all the strains are new to me. I can't wait to see what kind of Drama/ Comedy this is going to be. "Growing Forward"

From my experience with placing fabric bags on the ground, if you don’t move it after that, the roots will grow through the bag and into the ground. It will get difficult to move it later.
I am more concerned with good ventilation to prevent mold/fungus under the pot, the pots are on a white cement slab so sticking is not an issue here, definitely a issue to consider otherwise, thanks.

This is going to be a good one, I'm in!

glad to have you stop by herbal, love the name! This should be a fun one for sure, never know what’s going to happen in my backyard

Hello :)

I‘m the opposite, this is my first indoor grow, For the last two years I have grown outdoors. Not well mind you. My last two females should have been golden, but I picked them too early, and in hindsight I didn’t fertilise them properly, and when I say properly, I didn’t fertilise them at all.

I am looking forward to September and trying my luck again.

Good luck with your grow. I will be cheering for you from the side lines :)

Gotcha! If on a concrete slab, I have found that it can get pretty warm - not under the bag, but all around. Transpiration def picks up when the sun is beating down. It’s about 10 degrees cooler out in the yard - even though it’s primarily dry, cracked soil.

We are surrounded with lots of tall Oak trees so the ground around the slab is pretty cool / shaded thankfully it keeps the slab coolish as well. I do like the reflected light aspect of a white slab so it's a trade off heat - light what are you going to do right.

nice to meet you barb! Thanks for stopping by. When I get a second I’ll stop by your journal and check it out! Congrats on your first journal, it’s always exciting and being on here really helps, lots of good information and knowledgeable people
Like I posted, this is my first grow and it's got a while to go to complete and close my first journal. I should have read more journals to get a feel for making mine better, but what the hay! We are all here to learn and pass on the knowledge we have gained. Helping others makes us better as well.

Hello TraLa nice to meet you and thank you for stopping by. I think both indoors and outdoors bring different and unique challenges. I don’t want to sound like I hate growing inside because I don’t. I really enjoy it actually, I just don’t like having to run the lights, fans, ac etc. for me to grow what I want I need more than a 4x8 tent indoors. Those are my main motivations for growing outside

learning is what this is all about! I know what you mean, this grow is barely one month in with about 5 more to go!

Caught up! This is going to be another fun one, come hell (heat) or high water (storms). :thumb:

Yeah, some!

And neighbors? Might need those security cameras again ;).

You have nothing to lose but your chains (used to hang the lights)!

im always happy to have you shed! It’s going to be like old times, you and Amy remember my past outdoor grows so this should be just as fun.Yes security is a main concern of mine for this one because I believe the plants should be pretty large lol

We are here.
We're not queer.
Get used to it!

(That is a take off a chant my ex wife and I heard when we went down to see the gay pride march. I've changed up the words somewhat.

But I'm here! Thsnks for the invite.

All my best,
~Magnus
