Themaddabber's Hempy Bucket Bathtub Grow 2017

The Boveda can hold it at 62% once the entire bud is close. There is moisture inside the bud that moves to the outside as the outside dries, in search of equilibrium with the ambient RH in the jar. Burping and sealing the jar is usually what gets it close to that point depending on the ambient RH in the bathroom. If it's lower than 62%, then when you open the jar moisture leaves and the RH in the jar goes down. When you close the jar, the moisture inside the bud moves toward the outside. Eventually you want the bud all the same RH, 62%. Also, slowing down this process is beneficial as it gets rid of the chlorophyll in the bud. If you got your bud to 62% in 20 minutes and sealed it up for the cure it would not be as good 3 weeks later as one dried more slowly.
So the short answer here is.... no b62 until when? Once they stabilize at 62? Sorry if this is a newb question but then why even use the boveda packs at all?

I guess what I'm struggling to understand is what they are good for? If the buds stabilize why do I need one and if I want to slowly dry / pre cure why do I need them? Or do I even need them, is a better question? Lol again not that they're even mine they just were I jars arctic gave me and I'm taking my time to return them ...

In a perfect world with airtight jars in a vacuum, Bovedas are not necessary. But when you get to 65% or 58% and you want to stop trying to hit 62% they're perfect. They were designed for humidors which get opened and closed (but mostly closed) to get the RH back to target. After testing, I found that works best when the RH is close. When there is a large difference in RH between the jar and the # on the pack, I found that they take too long for my tastes to hit their number.

Anyway, like I said, jarring for the cure at 3 days will not produce the best smoke in the end.

No this is what I was looking for shed. Thanks bud! The humidor thing finally clicked for me :namaste:

Ok so back to the last part of your reply. When do I want to use the boveda? I will take it out now. And monitor the humidity. But how will I know when I should finally use it? Just once the buds are in that range 57 to 65?

Yes. It takes time for the chlorophyll to degrade (and the grass/hay smell to go) which is what the burping process is for: refresh the air. I do that over the course of a week about 30 minutes 2x/day (based on the RH here), then once a day for a week, then I'll just air them out once a day for a week, and then I'll jar them up for good with the B62s.

Thanks for the harvest/cure info! Taking notes .

Just wanted to say that I am no expert on this topic, and I'm sure many other growers here do it differently (as Duggan described earlier). This is how I do it from researching on the web and managing the harvests I've done. Also, a lot will depend on the ambient RH in your town. If it's 15% RH in your house it's not possible to burp them 30 minutes 2x/day without the buds turning to dust. If it's 85% RH then all the burping in the world will not get you down to 62%. There are other techniques for handling those situations, like humidifiers and rice balls.

I do have well-cured buds sitting in jars for over 6 months with no mold and great aromas. Just sayin'!

Damn humidity dropped like a brick without all that plant mass in there so I'm at about 35%

I can already tell more will need to be jarred tomorrow which is fine since I'm running short on box space again? And the next box I huge.

Good news is this is "all that's left" :laughtwo: :slide::ganjamon:

Holy cow! That is A LOT left!

Move 'em on, head 'em up
Head 'em up, move 'em on
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Rawhide (on your hands from trimming) :)
Hahahaha! Me in the back ground banging coconuts Monte python style to sheds singing..... :slide:

Okay..... It's time!!! I wasn't sure I wanted to play the guess the weight game, but I changed my mind ..

Any takers on total dry weight? I didn't do the deceptive "wet weight" as I don't buy into it....

And to make things fun, I will offer a secret prize to the closest guess. So let's here some outrageous predictions anddddd go!

I was so scared curing last year but it it ended up easy Toast has it down, I slow dry try for six days or more or less then jar up buds put in rh meters and get down to rh of 6.5 burp and shake every day at first. Then check and burp 3 days or how it is going. Have 10 month old bud that tastes better then 2months old bud.
happy growing

Just my two cents worth not worth much.

No most cents are welcome in these parts Mike! Yours seem to align with others, so I will count this as quality cents. Too bad I don't seem to have the common cents.....
