TheBlaze's Sour Chiesel - Blue Cheese & Black Rhino In Coco

Cool, that gives me some hope Grizz. What were the temps like in your area at that time?

I'm using 5 gal smart pots.

25-28, 77-82 cool nights though, which is when my lights come on.. 5gal, enjoy your trip and don't even give them another thought.. Mine were in 3gal and 3half gal pots. Yours look like bigger plants but they got plenty to live on...

The room the tent is in, only drops to about 30 deg at night. It's been incredibly hot here these last few weeks, and december/jan are our hottest months. If the power drops and aircon goes off, those plants will be getting slow roasted at about 35/36 deg. Not the end of the world if it's just one day, but 4? Anyway, I'm probably worrying for nothing.

Locally, we have an occasion fairly frequently to test our power backup plans. In a city with all overhead power and frequent storms, I've learned that plan B is required.
If I think the power outage will be short, I typically use a device called an "Inverter". I hook it up to a car battery and it converts 12DC to 110AC. It doesn't provide huge power, but can power my fans and CFs or LEDs. If the outage will be longer or if I need AC, then I drag out my fatass diesel generator.
I know it seems like a lot of infrastructure to purchase and maintain in case of power outage for your babies... but I run my house off the configuration as well. Tip.... get lots of extension cords!

Thanks Tead, that is definitely something I would consider when we purchase a bigger place next year. Especially considering the fact I want to go perpetual and kick things up a notch.

One more tip since we're talking power.... Something I wish that I would have understood better before I jumped....
If you go with solar, try to go for the higher end systems with batteries and all. My system is a simple grid connected system that needs a small feed from the power lines to make it work. When the power goes out, the solar system is useless. Sux. Wish I had spent a few more dollars.

Thanks for the tip Tead. Solar is hellishly expensive though. The average cost to take a 3 bedroomed house off grid is about $20 000 I think,

Yea... I know. Wish the prices would come down.
We got our system thru a lease with a now defunct solar company. They charge 35$/mo and kept all the tax credits. I get more than 35$ worth of juice even in winter months, so I'm a happy camper from the financial angle, but sure wish they worked when the power is off. I've been toying with the idea of turning off my main breaker (disconnect from grid) and applying my inverter or generator power to the solar power leg of the system and seeing if it kicks the panels on. No doubt I'll have a chance to test my theory soon enough.

Yeah, that sounds like a great idea and logically it should work. Do it! :thumb:

LOL! I'm no DIY guy. I assumed you are. I would be wary of doing something like that myself for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

I actually know someone who sells inverters. Will chat to him now. They're not too expensive if I remember correctly.

Tead, Does the power company credit you for unused power you have generated and put back into the system? Friend has a 30year contract, he gets back twice than what they charge...his getting 60c, they now paying 8c if you sign up...

Yes... I nerd out on the bill now and then. They purchase it back at the same price they sell it to me for.

Update

Day 32 of 12/12

Nothing much to report other than a little calmag deficiency again, and the black rhino is pumping out trichs like it's life depends on it.
