TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

Hey Blaze, I'm all caught up and super impressed my friend. Unbelievably beautiful plants. I knew it from the beginning these were going to be stellar. Can't wait for the chop and some smoke reports. Keep it rockin brother!

Thanks Doc! I've certainly had my fair share of problems this time round, but it's all coming together nicely in the home stretch. A bit of bud washing and we should have some A grade smoke.

By the way, forgot to mention the EK that hermied a few weeks back. I noticed what looked like tiny balls developing on the node opposite where I removed the previous set of balls. This happened about a week after I removed the first set. So I removed the new branch as well. Since then, no more balls and it has been a while now. So I think we're good. Only seemed to affect that one section of the plant.

It is a technique used by a few guys on the forum. I'm not familiar with all the details yet, but guys are getting good results using it. From what I can remember, you have 3 buckets. One with water, lemon juice and bicarb. Another with hot water, and the last with cold water. You rinse the buds in this and they come out all sparkly and clean. Washes off all the crap. So, if you have issues like I have, it washes off whatever you sprayed them with. Washes off bug shit, and if I'm not mistaken also removes powdery mildew.

Maybe someone in the know can post the link here.

Sol, I found the link on Cannafan's journal. (thanks chick)

Bud Washing

Thanks bud. I am really impressed with those WR's. I love it when plants seem to grow on autopilot. If the smoke is as good as I think it will be (Ive smoked WR from other growers, and it is a fantastic buzz) then I will be making it a semi-permanent fixture in my tent. I want to do a few more grows with a variety of strains, and then start narrowing my strain selection down to about 4 or 5 different strains, running them repeatedly.

I'm a little nervous about bud washing, but I am committed. I really do think it is necessary with this round of plants. I'm busy reading that thread now.

Awesome news on the balls (or lack there of). Last time it happened to me my tent got pollinated before I caught it. I'm going to give bud washing a try myself this round Brother!:thumb:

Budwashing is really nice, but not just for washing off mildew it really improves the final product in taste and smoothness.
If you have mildew you need 4 buckets, the first with a H2O2/water solution, the other 3 are just a standard wash for removing dust, dirt, dead bugs and their poo etc.

I've heard about some local growers here spray a tea of horsetail(Equisetum) on the living plants, during flowering, to combat mildew, might be worth looking into.

I've washed for a couple years, and it works well, don't sweat it. They seem to dry more evenly after the wash, and you will get a very tiny bump in yield. The smoke seems lighter/smoother too.

For a grow that included any brushes with mold, I would wash as directed. The preservative in the lemon juice is an antifungal, and will kill it. However, I have found that it mutes the smell a bit. I've cut way back on the ingredients to like 20% of what is called for, and I just use two temps, one 70F and rinse with 60-65F if possible. Even still, I've left some nugs out of the wash a couple of times, and it seemed like they were slightly more fragrant. I also think time underwater should be minimized to a few seconds as well. I feel that shortening that time, has made the final result better. I haven't done any true testing - these are just my impressions. :Namaste:

Thanks man. I will still be keeping a close eye on it though.

I've heard plenty of good about bud washing. So while apprehensive, I'm not too concerned. I will be gentle though.

Thanks for the recommendation bud. I'm loathe to spray the plants again. The mildew problem is not bad. Just a few spots here and there on 2 plants. Between the bugs, spray, dust and now mildew I figured it was essential to try and clean the end product up. A smoother smoke and more bag appeal will just be a bonus. This has been a grow of firsts for me.

I've read that both bicarb and lemon juice can remove mildew. The peroxide scares me a little to be honest. Think I will just stick to the 3 bucket routine.

Thanks for the info and for putting my mind at ease CS. I will definitely follow the instructions to the letter.

Just a quick question though. I've just bought one of those nylon mesh drying racks. Here is a small blurb on the product:

A collapsible mesh rack designed to support and aid the drying process of your flowers and herbs. The nylon mesh means the rack will not retain water or attract mould and the mesh is perfectly sized to maximise airflow while still be able to support smaller materials.

After bud washing, can I just put the buds straight into the drying rack? Maybe just shake off the excess water first?

I did the H2O2 some outdoor plants and it turned out fine.
I think it might be best to drip dry until they're no longer dripping and then put on the mesh, just turn the buds once in a while.

Thanks PGR. I might just add that as well then.

Will definitely be turning the buds regularly as well. Just can't be bothered to string up my harvests anymore. Hence the rack.

That mesh dryer works ok but you need to rotate your flowers. They will dry flat on one side and look funny.

Cheers

No worries bud, I will turn them regularly. 2 to 3 times a day.

Hey Blaze, I think Carestaker meant to hang dry them before putting them on the rack. I would agree as the extra moisture could cause some problems. I used to dry on screens but hanging them up makes the final product prettier IMHO. Who cares though, pretty doesn't get you high lol. All the commercial guys I know use the racks like you have. When you have a ton of weed it is very practical. Stringing and hanging takes up a whole lot of room.

I will do the next best thing, and shake them off a bit. LOL! I'm a lazy motherf###!

We should rebrand lazy mofo to "efficient". Sounds more professional. LOL

LOL! I couldn't agree with you more Shigg. Life hacks for growing!
