TheBlaze's Multi-Strain Grow In Coco & 600W HPS

This is a little murky train of thought, for coir...stage POTY was grown in coir being pump feed 12h straight a day... In saying that, I've seen better growth with some plants when I go away for weekend and they dry.. I've also had nice results with feeding twice a day, so????

It's a good guess though Reaf, as I'm inclined to guess the same. If you combine this with the fungus gnats and high humidity, then it is more than plausible the roots are not 100%.

I think the reason the plants look good, is because these issues have not progressed to the point where there is an obvious problem yet. They are just managing to slow the plants down while still looking healthy.

Yeah, it sure is confusing. In my last grow, I fed/watered every day and those plants never skipped a beat. With this grow, I've noticed that when I let them dry out a little then I see a visible improvement in a short space of time. That has to be telling me something.

It's not an easy one unfortunately...I also don't think I explained myself correctly when I said overwatering. I have never grown in coco before but I do know that a lack of air exchange in the root zone will slow down growth. As soil drys it exchanges moisture with air . So if they not drinking fast enough there is no air exchange in the root zone which will slow down growth and then you stuck in a nasty loop.... Sorry I can't help more bud. I also wouldn't discount fungus gnats but they are also a sign of to much water...

Hey blaze hope your alright. It sucks when you know something ain't right but you just can't pinpoint it. My thoughts here is over-watering or pH issues...have you tried changing the latter & is your meter in range?

Ah yes, I forgot about too moist and the fungus gnats loving it. It actually ties in nicely together. Cool, I feel a little better now. I'm confident we can get these plants turned around by monday.

Thanks Sol. I'm an old hand when it comes to pH problems. Had more than my fair share of that in my first few grows. I'm confident pH is well within acceptable range. Plants still look vibrant. This morning they were all praying for the light. Beautiful green leaves. Just shitty, small buds. LOL!!

Thanks for checking in and helping out bud. I appreciate it. The more I chat to you guys, and think about the signs... the more convinced I am that I need to let them dry out a little. I also need to rid this grow of the gnats once and for all. Also, a new fan would help humidity.

This certainly isn't a cheap hobby. LOL

Saves me around $6000 a year, so the odd piece of equipment we can justify.... Helps not having anybody to explain that to though..and if still did, it'd be " it's saving us $2000 a year" lol....

hey mate.

i dont have enough details to give a precise answer but your own thoughts on overwatering may be the issue. If the plants look healthy that is good sign.

In coco for me i give enough liquid so that pots are dry within 24 hours, working at 1 feed daily. You have to let the coco dry out to get the best aeration.

You also mention fungus gnats. if you are only seeing 1 or 2 its unlikely the problem. ai also have them and had them bad and you sae the growth on my flowers. Again to avoid fungus gnats allow the coco to dry out in between waterings.

my humidity has been at 70% start to finish for my recent coco grow and plants still thrived. lots air movement is vital but diff strains will respond differently also.

get some sticky traps for the gnats and lie them on top of the pots. and add some beneficial bacteria to the rootzone and that will give plant a nice health boost.

I'm getting the Rhizo back in to see if that changes anything for my 2 that have light...

Thanks for stopping in Cult. Much appreciated bud.

Yeah, only saw the one fungus gnat yesterday when feeding. I will definitely try your trick with the sticky traps. Have a few lying around somewhere at home.

I did recently (last thursday) give the plants some bennies. Product is called EM pro-soil. I think the EM stands for efficient microbes.

I think I'm going to need to spring for that fan now. Was going to wait until the end of the month, but I'm not happy not having one in my tent.

I will let the coco dry out, and take it from there.

Thanks!

Kelp and bacteria, maybe bacteria is from kelp. I believe...

Good to hear you'll have em up & running again by monday. I agree with cult even though I have no experience with coco. I think watering is something most people don't get quite right which can lead to all sorts i.e. changing or adding things needlessly. In your case a few gnats is not going to affect much & if your pH is in range then its a good idea to tweak the water/dry cycle. Fungus gnats can be a sign of over-watering & if rh is high then it can compound the problem by keeping the medium wet for longer.

So many variables to look for, keeps it all exciting I think lol. Would be no fun if any tom, dick & harry was able to grow high quality cannabis lol! In this case I would be harry, pleased to meet u bud

Yeah, I still remember my first grow. I almost loved those plants to death. LOL!! Looks like I might be walking down that path again. I guess we will find out soon enough. :Namaste:

& they say too much love isn't a bad thing! love without wisdom will always lead to the dark side...any Jedi will tell you that, especially cannabis Jedi's lol.

:grinjoint:

Talking about movies... watched the perfect stoner movie last night. Point Break. The new one. You need to be properly blazed on something that gives you that super focus. You know what I mean.

You can thank me later.

I loved it. Not so much the plot, which was a little thin, but the awesome cinematography. It gave me goosebumps. Smoked some nicely cured Sour Chiesel and completely lived myself into the movie. Great entertainment.
