If I do a bud wash I have to let them hang dry for two to four hours before putting in the fridge. The tips of the cola need to be dry from water.
If I don't do a wash then I trim as close as possible leaving the sugars on. Then I place up to 28 grams of wet bud in the paper bag. Do not roll the end closed and try not to stack over the openings. You can layer the bags on top of each other by doing a criss cross pattern and rotating every couple of days.
The more bud you have in the fridge the longer it takes to dry. When I get under 68% RH I take it out of the fridge and store in turkey bags filled with air from the room. This air continues the drying process and the cure takes over after that. To test the RH you need to take some bud out and place it in a jar or turkey bag and measure the RH after an hour or so. If over 68% it goes back in the fridge.
Once I'm at or under 68% and the bud is in the turkey bag I keep burping daily checking the RH. Once it hits 62% I don't add any more air. I exhaust the air roll the bag closed and store in 5 gallon sealed containers.
The benefit of the turkey bag is for burping. I can put 5 ounces easily in a turkey bag and burp and toss the buds gently. I can't do this in jars without it taking a lot of time and spillage.
I’ve never heard of drying in the fridge. I’ll have to look into that method for my ladies this fall. I was a veggie farmer for a little bit, but am new to this game. I’m trying to think ahead to drying and curing. My last grow was so hands-off! I think finding a good post-harvest system will give me the greatest benefit. I think I saw people drying in large cardboard containers, but maybe that is too budget minded?
