The Purple Experiment

Purple experiment is starting week 9. The plants are all looking healthy, no more weird rust spots on the top of gdp. Do si dos is still behind the other two in terms of flowering but is looking good and starting to develop true bud sites.

The purple punch bunds are swelling very nicely and the frost is starting to form. This plant is still the best one in the tent. I hope it gets some nice purples on it in the next few weeks.

The gdp is still very stringy and ruderalis like. I don't know if thats going to stop. It does seem to have stopped stretching though at this point and is starting to develop some frost also. You guys convinced me to keep it going so we seem to be running an experiment inside an experiment. Also for some reason, most likely the ruderalis traits, the stems on this plant are a bit weak/thin so I propped up some of the worst offenders with bamboo stakes and garden wire. She seems pretty sturdy now that shes been supported.

Do si dos is in early flower it seems like. I changed her feeding to a mixture set for earlier in flower than the other two and will just feed that for a week or so more. I started last week and this plant seems to be liking it. The canopy looks pretty even for a plant with no training.

Thanks for checking out my grow!

Plants are looking happy!! Hope you have had a good weekend. 😎✌️
Thanks Scottay! I did have a good weekend I hope you did as well!

Week ten started for this grow on Friday. Not much difference from week nine honestly. Purple punch ins fattening up and her pistils are turning orange. Granddaddy purple is still very frosty, but so ugly/string. Do si dos is taking her sweet ass time, but is definitely into flower now, and might be done stretching. This grow is kind of cruising at this point. Still no purple any where in the tent though so thats slightly disappointing. On to the pictures!

Purple punch is up first. Still looking the best out of the bunch. Her leaf tips are all curling up slightly, she might be riding the edge of nute burn.

Main cola is filling in well

Things are looking frosty

Granddaddy purple looks like a rosemary plant to me more than a weed plant at this point

The main cola might be starting to stack. Its hard to tell what's happening with this one.

Shes also super frosty though, this might be a good hash strain, although the last time I thought a frosty plant would be good for rosin the press came out really oily and with a terrible yield so who knows for sure.

Do si dos is starting to show bud sites. It looks like it'll flower in a similar pattern to the purple punch almost an upside down umbrella, if main cola is the handle. Idk, I'm high lol.

Shot of the main cola so I can track it fattening up.

Thanks for hanging out this week! Maybe we'll get some purple next week

Spears of lovely on the one girl!!! Looks awesome!! Don't poke your eye out kid!!! Happy Sunday!! 😎✌️

Here she is. Chopped her yesterday and got the pictures. I put a small bit in the oven with only the pilot light on and got to smoke a little this morning. She’s purple all the way.

that color is amazing! Nice job on that grow!!

That coloring is amazing! Great job on that grow!

I went into the tent today for a mid week watering on purple punch and gdp. Purple punch was starting to get a bit floppy due to weight coming on so I staked the main stalk and a couple of the side branches to keep everything upright. Purple punch looks like it is starting to foxtail a bit on the main cola which doesnt really make me happy and I'm not sure what would cause it. The temps in the tent have been a touch on the high side, but still always in the 80's F so I'm not really sure what is going on there, I'll have to keep an eye on it. Her leaf tips have been curling up for a couple of weeks and look like they are dying back a bit, but only at the tips so I thought I was riding the edge of nute burn but maybe its something worse? 🤔 GDP is still stringy and frosty at the same time, that plant confuses the hell out of me. I'm going to have to run the other two seeds I have of it to see if I get the same phenotype all three times, as it stands right now I'll probably throw the whole plant into the rosin press. Still no purple anywhere in the tent though.
That's my quick update on this grow! Thanks for checking things out!

Surprised there’s no purple in your tent. You are growing strains specifically for color. I think temperature is keeping yours all green. If not the buds then the leaves at least. Regardless, a floppy plant is a happy plant! Hope you get some purple before it’s all finished up. As far as leaves curling up it could be nute burn or heat or lights too close to the foliage. Hope also you figure out what’s doing that to your leaves.

The plant I posted above was a huge surprise how it turned out. As jar as I remember it was a clone and the mother showed no purple. I could be mistaken there and it may have been from seed but I just don’t know.

Here is the tent as it stands today, 69 days from sprouting. Still no purple 😢

Purple punch main cola is thickening up. You can see the start of what might be foxtails on her as well.

Here is a shot of the leaf tips, let me know what you guys think it could be. I'm starting to see some spots on leaves lower down on the plant that is making me think it might be a ph issue, but I've been watering at 6.2 - 6.3 the whole grow. Maybe this plant likes a different range?

Thanks for hanging out!

Week eleven for this tent. The grow is going pretty smooth at this point. All three plants are just doing their thing. I did start to develop a slight fungus gnat problem though. We started seeing them around the house and could figure out where they were coming from, until I saw one fly out of the tent while I was working in it. All three pots got covered with diatomaceous earth and i'll be bottom watering for at least the next week to try and get rid of any bugs.
On to the pictures

GDP is still a plant. I think its getting fatter but its hard to say with its bud "structure" it is very frosty though so at least is has that going for it. It seems to be continuing to grow vertically as well as its almost touching my lights again. I might tie it down, but I', not sure if thats a good idea this far into flower.

Do si dos is continuing through early/mid flower pretty well. Nothing really remarkable happening with her yet.

Purple punch is looking great! The main cola is filling in very nicely. I need to check the trichs but I think it has potential to be finished in the next two weeks or so. The data sheet says 7-8 week flower time, and normally I wouldn't buy it but this plant looks like it could hit that mark.

Im not sure if I'm crazy/hopefully but I think there are hints of purple showing up on the main cola. You guys let me know if I'm just posting copium or not though.

Thats all for this weeks update, thanks for stopping by!

I’m seeing some really light purple in some buds. Pinkish. They are really starting to look nice. Beautiful plants.

Thank you!! purple punch and do si dos have been impressive to watch, gdp is just fun at this point to try and figure out what it'll give me.

Girls look great my friend.
If my branches get too close to the light I tie them over.
Regardless of age.
Being too close to the light can cause burn and hermies. :Namaste:
Just 2 cents, they look good.

Stay safe

Week twelve is here for this tent. This week comes with some good and some bad, the plants are progressing pretty well but there was a yellowing that happened to both the purple punch and the granddaddy purple fan leaves. I'm not sure if its due to time or that I had to feed/water from the bottom this week due to having diatomaceous earth on the tops of the pots. Trying to finish off a small fungus gnat problem with the d.e. but thats the only difference for the plants and they had been green and happy all along before that. Take a look at the pictures and tell me what you think it might have been.

Do si dos had a couple of leaves yellow but that I believe is due to their positioning and them not getting enough light, but I'm still not great at diagnosing plant issues yet so who knows. Other than the few yellow leaves she is looking good and continuing to flower. The bud sites are starting to stack now, and I'm curious to see what it produces. She's going to be a long grow for an auto though already at 78 days from sprout and just into early/mid flower.

Granddaddy purple is annoying me and I'm thinking about pulling it. It is flopping all over the tent and is crowding the other two plants. It doesnt really seem to have put on any real weight despite how frosty it is.

Also I'm not really sure what this discoloration is, but if its the start of rot I want to get the plant out as soon as possible

Purple punch continues to be the star of the show. Aside from the fan leaves yellowing like I mentioned above the plant seems to be doing very well. The buds are fattening up nicely and all the pistils are turning orange. Trichomes are still clear/cloudy so it has a bit of time left but this one is getting close.

Thanks for coming by this week!

@Melville Hobbes what do you think is going on with the granddaddy purple? should I pull it this week?
Well, it's up to you.
Those buds look a lot like some pics I've seen of a pheno Dr. Grinspoon. I seem to remember someone saying it was caused by the sativa genetics, but I can't remember who.
I would go by the trichs. Whether you're making hash or smoking the buds, they're the important part.
If you're not willing to use them, then pull her whenever you want. I know they look weird, but after going through the grinder they'll look just like anything else.
Or go by one of the criteria used by @InTheShed , are you sick of looking at her?

thanks for the advice, I am sick of looking at her, but the trichs look like if I hold out a week or so I'll get a bit more amber than I already have. I've decided I'm going to fresh freeze this plant for bubble hash/rosin purposes so as long as those buds aren't rot I'll let it go a bit longer since it wont interfere with my drying space

Granddaddy purple is coming down in the next day or so. I am sick of looking at it, its taking up too much space in the tent for what its going to yield, and the trichs are looking amber 😀 I got a new hand help magnifying glass, and I thought it would be a gimmick but its giving me the clearest view of my trichomes that I've ever seen, even with my shaky ass hands. I'll post some pictures off of it soon, but man am I happy I found this thing it'll make harvest time WAY easier to determine. Link for anyone interested. Purple punch won't be too far behind I'm thinking a week, maybe two tops. It went through another yellowing/die off phase for fan leaves over the weekend and has slowed down drinking water. I'm excited this grow is getting back to a stage where I have stuff to do. Chores means new smoke soon so it gets me hyped. Thanks for stopping in for this mini update!

Granddaddy purple got chopped today.

This Sideshow Bob of a plant is out of my tent and in the freezer fresh freezing so I can turn it into bubble hash and then hash rosin. I did a rough wet trim on it, basically just taking anything that was crispy off of the plant. I probably trimmed for about an hour or so, really made me appreciate my bowl trimmer.

After trimming I ended up with 290 grams of wet weight.

I've put this into the freezer with the rest of the trim from my first two grows. After I harvest the og kush grow and the other two plants from this grow I'll do a bubble hash run and then press that on my rosin press. I have two more seeds of this strain that I'll grow out in future grows, I really hope I get some phenotypes with less ruderalis traits than this one had, because this plant was STICKY and smelled really nice, I would have liked to have been able taste a bud if there were actually any that formed, so fingers crossed for the next run. This plant provided me with no purple coloring what so ever, so that was also a disappointment.

This journal will continue with updates on the other two plants. Purple punch is waiting on the trichs to mature, but she is going through her fade so it shouldn't be long on that one. Do si dos is still in mid flower and is just starting to stack bud sites so that plant will have over a month left. Tune in on Friday/Saturday for my full regular weekly update though. Thanks for hanging out!
