The Perpetual Healing Garden - SweetSue's Joyful Return

It's called persistence.

 I swear Jim, I'm the luckiest woman walking. My guardian angel put in overtime with this one. I've spent all day trying to sleep and all I can think of is "How the hell did I get this to happen?" I did it completely wrong from day one and nearly burned all her sugar leaves off in the process, and yet..... and yet I have this magnificent harvest. It defies reason. :battingeyelashes:

I found myself thinking about taking the time to study that thread you shared with me once on the science of using nutes. I'm still thinking about it.

First time doing anything hydro related... ph... nutes... the whole shebang. Hat's off. Blows me away. And an auto to boot!

But the real question lingers like an elephant in the room.... would that change your growing style?

Let me get it dried and sampled before I make up my mind about this. My tents are pretty much dedicated to a single monster photo in one and autos in the other. If I'm gonna continue playing with a hempy element I'll have to rethink my entire approach. When I started with this experiment it was with the assumption that I'd go back to soil in the end. Quite frankly, this caught me off guard.

No no... thank you SS!

Oh Tead, without you this disturbingly frustrating and surprisingly rewarding grow would have never happened. Part of the inspiration has to go to lexort too. Listening to the two of you go on about your grows and watching them function were what hooked me. I'm still a little in shock Tead. I'll need a few days, but if this smokes as well as it looks and smells.......

Don't you dare! After all the money I spent on switching to this organic soil thing, I hereby declare it the best. No arguments. Nope. Shhhh. :blalol: :laughtwo:

Fear not my child.... the Hempy faith has much acceptance and understanding. Tossing seeds in dirt and seeing what comes to fruition has been a winning configuration for the vast majority of history after all. Those who choose to follow other paths may well find salvation down those roads as well. Reasons for choosing the other paths abound and are very compelling.
But when you find yourself lost in the paths, or simply wish to trod another for a while, you'll find friendly souls and helpful travel mates down the paths I frequent.

The elephant remains.... tapping his toe as expectantly and an elephant can.

My biggest challenge will be space, because I was going to try a photo in a hempy, but the flowering tent will only fit one large plant. Until I relocate to somewhere with more space and I can put up my 4x4 again I'll need to explore some other alternative. I have these shelves.....

image37696.jpg

They're 4' long and most of what's on them is empty storage containers and things that could easily be relocated to make room for a space dedicated to a hempy element and clones. I could enclose the space with light-blocking curtains for the flowering stage of the hempy photos. Or I could simply learn to do autos in a hempy, because I have an unending source for auto seeds. Lol! That way there's just a regular space in the auto tent for the hempy pot.

I think I got an auto to do fairly well, all things considered, don't you? Maybe this is the approach I should pursue. I'll talk it over with my walking buddies tonight, see what they think.

It's more enticing than I was prepared for Tead. That was sneaky of you Reverend. :laughtwo:

My silver tongue can be tricky... it's not just the complements.
Think about Osmocote+. You get rid of the nutrient dance mostly. I still use calmag and do the ph adjustment for them, but that's all.

I was out to the store today and made it to the building just as the UPS guy delivered my prize package from Sierra Natural Science. I sometimes wonder if I'm as strong as I sometimes feel. After carrying a 12 pack of water, a gallon of vinegar and this box up the 40 stairs in one trip I felt confident in my personal strength assessment. Damn! I'm one strong and healthy old woman. :laughtwo:

May need to make use of this. Then again.....I'll be changing over to HB soon. :hmmmm:

This too.......

My heartfelt thanks to the generous folks at SNS for the prize package. :battingeyelashes:

More enticement? :laughtwo: A worthy consideration. I want to do more research before I jump back in again. I did this one nearly blind. I'd like to be better prepared next run. I'll go back and take notes on your process so I can see it all laid out on paper.

Time to move them out of the kitchen and into the drying area in the hallway.

Looking good SS! She is starting to get that thick bush look to her....this is just what we want. Don't let any leaders get away , OK Sue. The next two weeks is when she will stretch and you will see a few of her leaders try and break away...DON'T let that happen! keep her nice and even. Great job with her so far ! Is that "claw ' look with her leaves a strain thing Sue? Just curious is all. Have an awesome night woman and oh ya BTW...congrats on your lil harvest ..looks mighty tasty woman!:thumb::Namaste:

Thank you Duggan. It smells mighty tasty. The hardest part is the waiting. :laughtwo:

I was looking at the clawing expression myself earlier. I'll need to pull up some pictures from my first Carnival. I don't remember this, but there's been a bit of time since then and it was my only one. She feels healthy and we know the soil's good, so I wasn't concerned about it.

Waiting!!! No, i am officially the worst "waiter"..bar none! No time to wait! Life is going by like it was shot out of a rifle...for pete's sake!
I'm not sure about it..the curling that is. Have you asked Gray....i don't recall seeing Noob's do that. I'm curious ...but it's only with the top few fans , correct? All the others look nice. Don't worry about it , but lets see if we can figure that out. Keep an eye on those leaves that are a bit curled downward like that, they should straighten out as they mature. You are going , what , about four days between drinks ,...or five? You give 2 gal's each and every time? Have you figured out the pots , max water holding cap.?

Just stopping in to see all is well, that dark devil looks amazing sue. How long did it take from start to finish?

Jimdogggy

Thank you Jimdogggy. I'm a little star struck by her still. Lol! She took 67 days to get to harvest. That's the fastest Dark Devil Auto I believe I've grown to date. She was mishandled from the beginning and spent the early days under a light panel I wasn't aware was deficient. All things considered it was like hitting the lottery. :laughtwo:

Yes, let's keep an eye on it and see if we can pin it down. She's about five days in between drinks and she's able to hold about 2 1/2 gallons maximum. What I'm thrilled about is how much she weighs dry. Lol! There's a mass of fine roots filling that pot if that weight is any indicator, and I've no reason to believe otherwise.

I think it's Weas that's kind of in the middle of discovering that some of his strains prefer a lower PH. Some of his plants were doing droopy clawed leaves similar to yours and he might be discovering that a lowered PH resolves the issue.
I'm gonna test the theory myself next time the issue arises.

The HB soil is a living matrix. PH isn't a factor in these grows. You know, I got to be really good at PHing the water. :laughtwo: That'll come in handy when I do the next one, and I'm going to be doing another. I'm not a patient woman, and a dear friend, also a lover of a fresh buzz, convinced me to go ahead and get a taste of her tonight during our virtual buzz session.

One of the things we brag about with our HB grows is the white ash left behind, the implication being that only high brix product will burn that clean. Well ladies and gentlemen, behold:

IMG_007465.JPG

I call that white ash. Burning fresh produce requires a certain skill. Once learned this is easy. The buzz from freshly harvested trichomes is in a class all its own. This plant burns so smooth and sweet it's.... it's..... almost too good to be true.

IMG_007568.JPG

There's the delicious smell of Dark Devil Auto filling the hallway and rooms of the abode and white ash in the bowl. Ahhhhh....... All's well in SweetSue's world. There won't be an update on the autos and the clones tonight. I'm too high for that. Lol!

Saw those words a few places. Was confused. Now I understand better.

I've found it to be true in my own experience that the best produce I smoked always left white ash behind. This is no exception. This good right off the vine, I can only imagine what a three month cure would do. I'll have to set some aside in a special jar.

I was checking out the site Norcaliwood linked us to, "Cannabis under the microscope" and came across this one.

image765.png

A sample of the bottom of a cannabis leaf about 3 mm wide. Two types of defensive cell structures are clearly visible: the tall needlelike trichomes and the short ball like glandular trichomes that are the source of the highest levels of THC. The high density of trichomes on modern cannabis leaves should make them a good source of THC. This is a false color SEM image with false color looking from the central rib on the bottom of a leaf towards the edge of the blade.

Think of it, the highest levels of THC are found on the leaves. Ted Kinsman doesn't say, but I'd bet it's those sugar leaves Doc's been pushing for years.
