The Munki's Playground

Thanks BlueDog.

Well, here is an update. Getting good growth on two plants, OK growth on one more, but the last one has not started yet. It is the one I put in later, so it could grow later on but I think I'm going to pull the plant and set the bucket to the side so I can get the light better on the three remaining plants.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I put the 288 watt LED panel back in about a week ago.

Hey Munki!

They're taking their sweet time aren't they lol.

I'm finding that I didn't know shit about taking clones and it takes a lot more forethought than I gave it. I wanted them to all be more or less the same size but it's going to be a problem, they've been developing at different rates mostly because they're not all the same age. Live and grow and learn.

Hope things are going well for you, take it easy!

Ohh, :high-five: for getting Member of the Month!

Things are coming along now. Check 'em out! Pics from yesterday.

Two days later; the big plant has already grown about 1 additional inch to 6 inches high. I don't plan on messing around with the plants too much (like LST), so I may flip to 12/12 in about a week. At 18 inches, my last Ogre plant nearly reached the top of the tent. Don't want to deal with a lot of height as I would like to use the LEDs throughout the grow.

I finally pulled the runt today. Got a pic of the roots. Now this cutting was taken like 2 months ago and it has practically no roots. Not sure as to the cause, but it appears that the rockwool was an impediment to root growth. Once the others could get through the cubes, they have taken off in growth. Think I'll be working more with bare root clones in the future.

Hey Munki thank you!

I love watching clones turn into plants right before our eyes, it's pretty amazing. Your girls are looking great.

I've got clones that are 3+ weeks old with no root development either, when others I took from the same mother at the same time have rooted. Not quite sure why.

I copied a diy bubble cloner from Sisco, who copied it from someone else. I gave up on it too soon because I assumed that the clones not yet rooting would be fine and I was in a hurry, but that decision ended up costing me time. I can tell you that the bubbler works great and imo is faster than just putting them in plugs and planting them.

I bought a few small 2 gal tubs from walmart along with an aquarium pump, some hose, airstones and splitters. Add ph 6 water and superthrive and hygrozyme and turn on the pump. All I did for the cuttings was cut down an 8oz styrofoam cup to about 2 inches, poke a hole in the bottom with a golf tee, insert cutting so about 1.5" of stem was sticking through the hole and toss it into the bubbler - little clone boats lol.

Tried to keep the temps upper 70's low 80's with some cfl lighting. Within a week you'll have roots starting. Around 2 weeks you'll have masses of roots and be ready to roll. I didn't use any nutes except the occasional dose of superthrive.

The ones that I left in there for 2 weeks I had 100% success - about 12 of them. This is where I screwed up and transplanted all of them, including a bunch that really hadn't rooted much or at all because they were younger. Should have left the immature ones in there because now after 2 weeks in perlite they're still way behind.

Sorry to be so wordy but this is the only way I'll take clones going forward, hope it might help you. Take care my friend.

BlueDog, I think you have a point especially when using the ebb and flow system as inserting a bare root clone would be ideal and not having to remove the clone from any solid media would minimize root damage during transplant. I'll keep that one in mind. Thanks.

:Namaste:

Here we are as of yesterday. Thinking of topping off the center plant; I suspect that it has roots down to the bottom bucket at this point.

I love that pic Munki it looks like a movie set.

I've never seen and ebb n flo before this will be fun to watch.

The clones are looking great.....:thumb:

Thanks but if you've seen PitViper's or GreenIsland's grows, then you HAVE seen the ebb n flow in action! :theband: :rocker:

Did some changes in the garden. Pics from today. I upped the watering cycles from once to twice a day, raised the light a couple of inches, and will now be using the inline fan but in 10 minute periods every couple of hours during the day and a couple of times at night for about 20 minutes each time.

The bigger two plants were topped and trimmed to allow for 4 colas to develop on each plant.

BTW, I'm still running on that initial 1/4 strength nute load. Out of 25 initial gallons, I still have about 18 gallons still flowing. Been really no hassle in that department so far. Just checked the tank with freshly calibrated pH and TDS meters; pH is 5.9 - 6.0 and TDS is about 620 ppm which equates to an EC of 1.24 for my meter.

Looking good Munki! What am I seeing, are those buckets inside of buckets? And then the water comes in from the bottom?

Yep. That is the ebb and flow system from CAP products.

OK, lets see if there were any changes since yesterday.

Oh, got a new pH probe for my NutraDip Tri Meter. The probe is from BlueLab. It fits and appears to work, though I get a different pH reading than from a freshly calibrated Hanna meter. I'll go off the new probe on the next batch of nutes to be done this week.

Did a few things today. :thumb:

Lights raised about 2 inches.

Calibrated meters again. I found that I needed to put the probe into the pH 4 and pH 7 solution back and forth a few times, rinsing and turning a calibration knob on each pass until sticking the probe into a solution gave the correct value. Once that was done, the pH of the tri meter and my handheld Hanna meter matched up. Adjusted the TDS meter again as well, calibrating both of my meters as best as I could. They were off by about 20 ppm; not too bad.

Reservoir Change: In 25 gallons I added 200 ml GH Flora Micro, 400 ml GH Flora Bloom, and 50 ml of Dutch Master gold series silica. No pH adjustment needed. Final numbers were 5.6 pH, 910 ppm (1.8 EC), and 64 degrees F.

Pics tomorrow.

Morning Munki! What do you use to measure out ml's? I need something.

I had been using a 50 ml graduated cylinder, but that isn't big enough for this tank. I just bought this mixed drink measuring cup made by Sunlight Supply that is basically a beer glass with several different measuring scales. Probably not the most accurate thing but good enough at the levels I'm mixing. I'll try and get a pic of that later.

OK, I topped off the third plant now. I plan to switch to 12/12 tomorrow; I'll take that 6 hours per day off the end of the light cycle. It will have the lights running during the actual day so I will need to pay attention to possible heat issues towards the end of the grow. The flower period should be long if I can keep the bugs out and any powdery mildew issues at bay.

Wish me :goodluck:

and finally here is the tridip meter making things easy... Note that ppm is 500 = 1 EC scale.

Alright flower time! They're looking really good I think. I do lights on in the day too, but won't grow in the summer again. That way I don't have to worry about light leaks as much. I'm more worried about light leaking out than in.

Good luck bro!

Thanks BlueDog. I'm not worried too much about my light leaking out, but light leaking in on the dark cycle is a no no.
