The Munki's Playground

Hey Munki! I'm sure you've done it before but would you mind explaining just how your system works again? I go back in your guys old journals and get lost for days and I just don't have the time now, but I'd like to learn just what's going on... thank you.

Well this guy can explain it much better than I can. I use the grow rocks. The STG inserts have not worked well for Cannabis from what I've read but YMMV (your mileage may vary) ;)

Thank You for this ;) I learn tons by just watching and reading :)

Its been a pleasure to share as I've learned. Besides, the pics last longer than the actual product. :tokin:

Thanks Munki that was interesting although the guy could use a little dose of enthusiasm. A lot of work to go through for some tomatoes though lol.

Are there any common problems you have to watch for with this? And how many pumps are involved all together, I think I counted 3? :tokin:

Update on some changes. I have now turned on the exhaust fan and carbon scrubber 24/7. Also added an additional 144 watt LED panel so the girls can stretch out. Makes sense as one plant can fit under the 144 and the 288 is simply twice the length of that so it gets two plants.

Pic of the mothers. I hand water them every 2 to 3 days.

Here they were all crowded up.

Now with more space ...

and let's check in with the nutrient tank's vital readings.

This is my first time using this particular setup from C.A.P. though my homemade setup used in the 3 x 3 and 2 x 4 ScrOG grows work under somewhat of the same principle.

Only one drain and one fill pumps are required; fill in reservoir and drain in control bucket. I have a third pump in the reservoir running all the time just to mix up the nutes constantly.

Problems involve failure of the float valve, particularly the high water mark one. If that does not stop the pump, then it will overflow the control bucket until the timer is up, reservoir goes dry, or fluid gets into the electrical box and shorts out the brain!

Another could be leakage at junction points as they fill from the bottom.

Finally, standing water can happen in the bottom buckets and roots will often grow down into there. Been some reports of root rot, but I figure that can be mitigated by running enough flood cycles.

Very nice, Munki! Gotta love all that extra space and congrat's on the tri-meter. If I was using a recirculating system, I'd definately get one!
:goodjob:

Yeah, I got it along with the ebb and grow and a bunch of other stuff on Craigslist a while back for a very low price. Too low to pass up even though it can grow a much larger garden than I'm ready to do.

Just had to buy a new pH probe and was off to the races!

Looks like you've really got it dialed in Munki. So is hydroton your medium or is there anything else in there? It's really cool I think.

Nice score on Craigslist. I'm going to check it out myself, this isn't Cal by a long shot but you never know until you look. Do you guys have a category like grow supplies or hydro or mmj or anything like that?

Just Farm and Garden...

Hydroton only for the medium.

Holly crap your good at what you do.

Well, :bigblush: thanks man. Oh, :welcome: to 420 Magazine jtdglf!

OK, let's check in with the ladies now that they have been under the extra light for the past two days.

Here is what it looks like without adjusting for color balance.

It's just easier on the eyes if I adjust the camera to simulate like it is white light.

My they are growing fast!

Check out this leaf. It is a normal green in regular light.

Morning Munki! I can't believe how fast they're growing, seems like just a week ago they were 6" tall.

I'm kicking around ideas for an automated watering system that I could leave for a few days, I think you have most of the parts that I'd need. Really just a res, timer, pump, some tubing and connectors and a backflow valve would probably do the trick don't you think? I'd just want it to come on and run for 5-10 minutes every 2-3 days.

Oh and that extra light really helps, those girls are going to need the extra room for sure!

Very healthy looking girls, Munki. :welldone:
I see your thumbs are still as green as ever Munki, really nice looking... :welldone:

MV... :trance:
Very nice Munki - looking good and healthy. :yummy:

Thanks everyone. The plants are doing the work (along with the power plant running the lights, pumps, ventilation). I just provided a good environment. Had favorable weather lately. More challenging temperatures will be faced in the coming months however.

Thanks BD. Well if you aren't flooding your rootzone then draining it, then you can drain to waste which is what is done in soil grows. Can you use Aquaglobes? They can get you through a pinch. Otherwise a drain to waste may work if you have a good catch basin. This can be risky; worst case scenario is that the whole reservoir pumps out in one shot flooding your grow space. Think if you could handle that while away or would that be devastation? If so, those aqua globes look pretty attractive for safety margin reasons alone.

:goodluck: with whatever you choose to do.

I couldn't think of the name of those aquaglobes - just had a similar discussion in my thread. I've been thinking of growing some hempies in perlite and wondered if you could use aquaglobes on those in a pinch (if you had to be away a few days). Wasn't sure if anybody has tried that with hempies or if there would be a better way...
