The Mountain: Grow Support From The Over 50 Club

I would start her on a tbsp. per gal on fish emulsion with maybe a little super thrive. I would water her with that once a week. In between just water. I would do that for the first 2 weeks, assuming that this is an outside grow. After that I would pick the well balanced fertilizer of your choice. There are more than enough available options. But whatever one you pick start off at Half of what the label says and note how the plant responds. Different varieties, under different growing conditions , at different growth stages require different amounts of nutrients
. But ease into them until you see how the plant responds. I would also include waterings with Epsom salts about once a month just add a tbsp. per gal in a container grow or you can just sprinkle it around the plant if she's planted in the ground. She's got a good frame and looks to me that she has some yield potential there.
Best of luck and let us know how she does and we can help you make more adjustments as you go,

Auggie Great stuff there! I've been part of one successful 1000 plant grow back in about 79. Anyway you look at it that kind of grow is flat out work. But as we always say here on the farm ," It's a good kind of tired!"

I wanted to let you all know some of the early results of my Fun With Autos grow. If you remember I purposely cut off the stem of a newly germinated Berry Ryder. It was cut just below where the stem turns white as the root beigns. My supposition was that like a normal plant when you mess up and do this you can still salvage the seedling it will grow but just be retarded in growth. This Berry Ryder has done the very same thing. It is running about 2 weeks behind the other 2 control plants but it appears to be in the same ballpark as far as yield is concerned. Really quite impressive. These plants germinated around the 26th through 29th of April and should finish up around July 4-8.

Now on a related note I had an Auto Candy Kush that has had a rough life. The plant was stressed from excessive heat and abnormally cool weather. During an early season cold spell all of the plants were brought back into the barn and put under 1000 watt light. All the plants were about 2 weeks old at the time. Then the weather turned abnormally hot and sunny. I decided that because I was busy getting tomatoes and melons in the ground that I would move all the plants outside and just let them fend for themselves. I messed up and forgot 1 Candy Kush plant who then endured 3 days of very hot temps in the barn under lights but with no ventilation or fans on. What can I say?? I messed up! I thought that I had taken everything out and turned off the switch! So I had an opportunity to see what I could learn from my mistake.

I nursed the youngster and set her out. On her first night out in the hills a squirrel dug her up roots and all. Ok... I replanted her and moved her. 2 days later he did it again. I replanted her again and moved her to her new location. She is stunted but I have to say that I am amazed that she is about 10 inches tall with one central bud from bottom to top. I would say that she still is going to try and turn out 4-7 grams which to my mind is amazing considering what she's been through. I guess the bottom line is what my Hort.101 prof used to say, " Everything in nature wants to live and reproduce or none of the things that we are going to learn about would be possible." I know this much Auto plants are a lot more forgiving and tougher than people give them credit for.

Yea, it is a good tired. I really like my girls. The more people I meet, the more I like my plants. They are always grateful, always responsive. I take good care of them, and in return they provide for me. An equitable relationship.

But, hey, you cut that Berry Ryder off AT THE DIRT LEVEL? Wow. and that just stunted her? Made her more of a bush than a tree?
You are the MJ whisperer - an intensive care unit at your place, eh?

Yep I cut her about a sixteenth on an inch below where the stem turns white beginning the root. Here's my supposition Like any plant that one didn't know how old it was. It doesn't "know" . It doesn't "know" it's an auto flower. It just knows its trying to grow and it's root has been damaged. Just like a clone it begins to form callous tissue and form more root tissue. My point of doing this was to challenge the misconception that transplanting , or other growing mistakes negatively impacts autos more than regular plants. It doesn't necessarily.
It just depends what growing stages the plant is in. In autos these stages are all present just shorter in duration. For a weed nerd like me fun fascinating stuff!

I have an issue w my soil. The set up: fox farms ocean air, nutes tiger bloom and grow big at 1/2 recomendation of specs. 280w mars hydro led, 3.5x3.5 space one Californian Orange one Purple Maroc entering second week since 12/12. C orange has been struggling w calcium like deficiency (started at bottom of plant on fan leaves rust colored working its way up. ) I've cal mag'd the soil and sprayed 3xs daily to stave off damage. It worked but still occurring just more slowly. Now the purple maroc is showing signs.thoughts?

Any chance of getting a pic of the leaf damage that you describe? The problem with calcium deficiencies is that by the time you show symptoms you are already pretty far behind the eight ball. It's one of those situations where truly an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. ( Ok let me check...yep that's 2 clique's within the first 3 sentences ) But here's my point with calcium like a lot of minerals they are slow on the uptake and it's best to have adequate amounts available from the beginning of the grow. I say the same thing about phosphorus.
Both are not very trans-locatable in the soil. That's not to say that calcium supplements won't work...they just take time. It's the same way with tomatoes by the time the blossom end rot shows up you ( a sure sign of calcium availability issues) are already in trouble.

Also one other quick point, I don't start flower nutes right away when I flip. I like to give the plant 10-14 days to begin it's physiological gear shifting that the plant will go through. But that's another topic.

If you can get us a pic it might help. There are a couple of deficiency charts on here that are pretty good. I need to get a link posted on this thread to one of them. Best of luck with all you grow!

Good morning from the Mountain! We had some excitement around here yesterday. A few posts back I related how I caught some tresspassers on my place. That was about 4 or 5 days ago. Yesterday my only neighbor, a fellow old man who lives out by the road showed up at my door. This usually doesn't happen and never on a Sunday. He told me that he had 2 State Patrol officers at his place and that Game Wardens from 4 counties were in the woods all around my place. I guess they caught 2 guys digging ginseng out of season on me, my neighbor and then back behind us on State land. They were still looking for two other guys and were crawling all over the place while they waited for the helicopter with heat seeking capabilities. So I had to slink off to my girls and pull them into to more secure locations. I'm going to be interested to see how close they walked to all of my plants in the raspberries and briars. I'm a little worried about the raspberry grows because they are ripe right now and are really loaded. I could just see some Game Warden picking raspberries and then saying, Hmmmm What do we have here!"

Yea, I kind of like "Raspberry Kush" too ...

I would stand there and scratch my balls with the cops and say, "Hmm, damn potheads. So they planted on state land too, eh?"

I would have been s#%+*ng myself. :jawdropper::rofl::rofl:Although I have to say there is a plan B if for any reason I have to dissapear my girls.....

Hey Gutta! I assume that you are talking about those pesky little soil gnats. A lot of folks try to suppress them with a layer of fine sand and from what I've heard they have some success with that method. They put 1/4 to a 1/2 an inch on top and press it down on top of the soil as a barrier. I generally go the head them off at the pass route. I take my bags of soil mix, humus, etc. and I put them in my greenhouse for a couple of weeks. Pretty much any thing in that soil from an insect stand point is killed by the high heat. I suppose you could also put it in your car with the windows up or in the trunk if you live in a hot enough location and you should get the same effect.

I seldom have gnat problems in my grow by doing this, in- the -bag soil sterilization. Best of luck in all you grow!

How do I get rid of gnats :helpsmilie:

Those are the flies that buzz around a dogs balls on a warm day?

I swing at them with my hand, call they dirty names ... it hurts their itty bitty feelings.

Or, I spray them with Raid.
Or, I get one of those yellow shell no pest strips and hang it up.
Or, I put a piece of fruit in a glass with a little vinegar in it and a piece of saran wrap with a hole in it over the top and they fly in and can't get out and drown.

Most of the time however, I just ignore them. They don't buzz around MY balls, and they do no harm to the plant.

The 6500k cfl's are on the cooler blue side of the spectrum it's believed that plant respond to this spectrum more during vegetation because it simulate the cool blue like summertime. 2700k cfl's are on the warmer side of the spectrum, grower usually use 2700k during flowering because it simulate fall when the sun has a more red/orange spectrum also I believe cannabis plant's uses more of the red spectrum during flowering. You can also mixed up the 2700k & 6500k so your plants can benefit from both side of the spectrum during the whole grow.

Good luck on your grow im also currently growing with cfl's you can check out my journal for info and questions :thumb:
