The Mega Crop Thread

Everything I've got (above) has been kept UNsealed in their original bags, and only the MC went gooey. I still use it...basically for houseplants and stuff and I pour some into a gallon container and go by the resultant color to base my strength on.

i watered all the goo down and put it into a couple empty large liquid detergent containers. a lot of it was just sand though.
i have some outdoor sips type garden containers i will try to use it for. i'll keep diluting it to see if it will dissolve further.

i call horseshit and i am the one who started this thread.

my megacrop was in a sealed container and my rh is sitting at 15%. it still turned into goo. super pissed off.

edit: it was also stored in an unheated cool dry closet.
what container was it sealed in? People receive their products in good condition, but usually over time this issue could happen if its not sealed 100% (sometimes the ziplock seal also get particles stuck in it and will not fully close).

Also the newer formulas are more resistant to this. In the end, it comes from moisture because Calcium Nitrate and some other ingredients are hygroscopic.

read the thread maybe. i've given you tons of exposure.

the bulk is kept in a sealed 2.5 gallon pail. from there parts were separated into 2 coconut screw top oil containers.

mine actually arrived in shitty condition 6 yrs ago. the bag was ripped and wet.

it was the 9kg bag.

well la dee da ...

look, i love your products. i use nothing but the one part, some calmag, a little h2o2, and your bud explosion. that's it. i'm literally a billboard for how good they are.

but this part of your line is absolute garbage. it is not acceptable.

i made an investment in the product which will not be realized. that is something to consider for those reading.

edit: @Greenleaf Nutrients if confused on my megacrop history start at page 1 post 1 of this thread. then read any of my hempy journals.

so ... heads up for anyone using this stuff. it goes bad over time. megacrop is hydrophilic, meaning it attracts water. this is great for mixing the stuff but a disaster for storing it.

this is what it turns into over time ...

completely unusable. absolutely useless. it looks like brownie batter.

it was stored in a sealed container in an unheated closet at 15% rh. i am very unimpressed.

if you use this stuff make sure it is stored very carefully. this stuff was old, and i'm not sure mega crop can be kept long term. keep that in mind.

i've got some other product that was stored at my folks place, i'm hoping it didn't go bad.
I keep mine in a sealed bucket. I have 10kg of it, it’s prolly 2 years old and I’ve had zero problems and I live in a super humid climate. My average day is in summer is 80%RH

I have the bag zippy tied as well.

I opened the bucket when I need to restock my jar then rezippy and seal.

I love Mega Crop. It is literally the only product I use.

will this do ?
That appears to be potassium silicate which will add potassium to your mix (and MC is already high in K) so if see if you can find something with just silica as the ingredient. I use Front Row Ag Si these days.

I've got my original from 2018 in a sealed 2 gallon bucket with a DampRid container inside. It looks the same as the day it arrived. My regular use jar gets gooey over time but I find it lasts longer in mason jars than any other type. And it's stored (and used) in a high RH environment.

I found that once it's ground it absorbs moisture 100% faster so I stopped doing that.

i like it as well. just be careful as it doesn't seem to store well long term. it kinda seems to pull whatever water it can out of the air when exposed, eventually becoming unusable.

Because my climate is so humid I go from bucket, and top up in a 500mL glass jar, then from that I top up to a 50mL jar. The 50mL jar is the one used most so it’s the one being opened every other day.

Basically what I’m trying to say is:-

This means the bucket is seldom opened, the 500mL jar is sometimes opened and the 50mL jar is always opened.

I think it reduces the chances of moisture getting in to the Mother Ship.

I have mine stored well. Two years on, zero problems.

I can see how attracted to water it is by even the slightest bit of moisture on my measuring spoon. I just ensure lids are tight, and my measuring spoon stays clean and dry.

Yours looks like you tripped and tipped a coffee in it lolling!

i'm gonna have to figure out some other storage as well. so you have a container inside another? could be promising. i dunno what a damprid container is.

if my other stored nutes are good i'm gonna use a mason jar.

will have to consider that. i had to break mine up a couple times. couldn't be weight measured otherwise. not sure how i'd get around it though.

my current rh is 15%. we are lip cracking dry most times of the year. avg is 35%. we can peak in the 60s, but the last couple yrs were a bit wetter.

it was also stored in an unheated cool dry closet. where i keep the red wine.

kinda think it just gets old and gives up.

Certain areas will be worse to store it in. If you live in humid or hot areas, then these types of conditions can cause them to absorb moisture much quicker. Even a coconut oil jar I am not sure will be sufficient. Also even the zipper bags can get particles stuck in the zipper channels after use, and not be fully sealed.

The best option if you are having difficulties, is to just have a standard Home Depot bucket and buy a Gamma Seal screw lid (you can find similar ones at Home Depot as well for $6). These lids can form a very strong moisture barrier seal, and be extremely air tight when used correctly and also out of heat/direct sunlight.

The issue is not really a "greenleaf nutrients" or "mega crop" issue, it just comes down to the core ingredients in Hydroponic setups, which by nature are hygroscopic, mainly Calcium Nitrate. If you leave an open bag of Calcium Nitrate out it will turn into liquid fairly quickly.

Damprid is a chemical used to remove humidity from the air in enclosed spaces. Mostly calcium chloride, with a bit of sodium and potassium chloride. It's in its own container, and when it gets damp it's corrosive (IIRC).
I have mine in a gallon ziploc bag, in a Tupperware container, and I fill up a 500ml mason jar every once in a while. We're dry enough here that the 500ml jar is good enough unless I leave it sitting around for a couple months.

I have a few lbs left in my original 3 year old 25# bag sealed and it hasn’t had any issues.

It’s when I take out a small amount and put it in an easier access container that it turned to goo. Still works as goo, just smells weird.

My grow area is bone dry dry but cold at night (garage) and that has to be most of it.

I love the product. Like @bluter I have grown hundreds of plants on just MC, cal mag and Sweet Candy (I don’t use BE) or Purpinator. Makes a really simple system that almost every plant can work with.

@Greenleaf Nutrients I hear you about IG, it’s becoming a desert there because of their idiotic policies and non-human policing that can’t be overturned. Recipe for failure and they are really cooking.

Bean can you advise why you use Sweet Candy over Bud Explosion? Just curious as I was advised not to use the tw together unless cutting each dose in half, which I have done. But still curious why SC over BE?

It was likely on sale when I bought it or BE wasn’t available at that time lol.
Definitely don’t use both at once, no plant needs that much K. I alternate between Purpinator (not Terpinator) and SC and the plant lets me know if it wants a bigger dose.

Thank you. Wasn't sure if maybe one had a benefit over the other I believe one is more vitamins with minerals and natural products and one has more sulfates and phosphates among other ingredients. Sweet Candy for more of an organic grow IMHO.

i don't care what the excuses are the bottom line is the stuff does not store well long term and possible clients should be made well aware of that.
