The Mega Crop Thread

Open both and use them on a pair of clones to see which you like better?
I was sorta' joking with that remark, Mel. Sorry. Perhaps I joke around too much sometimes.

I've used the older version and I liked it. I've opened the newest version to see if it's "improved." :)

I'm not sure what version, here's what I got from the bag:
i'm pretty sure it's one of the earlier 2.
I've got a brand new bag of 11-5-14 MC and a new bag of the 9-6-17 MC.
For what it's worth, here is what I have for MC formulas starting with the one I bought, and the version numbers are my annotations:
v2: 9-6-17, Ca: 5.6, Mg: 2.3
v3: 10-8-15, Ca: 8.1, Mg: 3
v4: 11-5-14, Ca: 7.5, Mg: 1.4

You can see the ratio of Mg to Ca change from 1:2.5 to 1:2.7 to 1:5.3. Bluter adding calmag to v2 makes sense if the supplement is balanced as well. Adding it to v4 can send the Ca too high depending on the numbers.

I also have another version I never assigned a number to and don't know where it falls, which is 9-7-14, Ca: 7.5, Mg: 2.7 (1:2.8).

Great summary Shed !
Maybe Greenleaf @Greenleaf Nutrients can advise also on which version is included in their online nutrient calculator ?

Not a problem, Tra! I'm used to being ignored! 😁
Omg with Sheds sad face, I am seriously not sure if you’re joking or not.

If you are in fact serious, I am legit sorry if you feel I’m ignoring you. I’m not. I’m just looking for the advice that best suits me and my style of growing. Just because someone doesn’t take your advice doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate the time it took for you to give it.

yeah it's version 2

That's what I'm using as well. In addition to the NPK, you can see the all the differences in the Ca and Mg numbers over the years, which is why I mentioned that Flatfish and I were discussing the latest version with the ratio further away from 1:2 than ever.

wonder if the formula tweaks are a reaction to indoor growing and led. i'm hesitant to believe they threw the formula into a mg imbalance with them. it's a little harder to nail down and fix than v2.

I thought that the theory with LEDs was that they increased demand for both calcium and magnesium, so that wouldn't explain why they changed the recipe to up the Ca and leave Mg behind.

I haven't seen any actual studies in cannabis (they may be out there) but there is this with lettuce:
"Phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mn) content in LR variety, and iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and manganese (Mn) content in both varieties increased upon exposure to blue and red LED light spectrum with RBPN method."

There are blog posts and LED manufacturer posts about the effect on cannabis but nothing scientific.

Maybe @Greenleaf Nutrients can tell us why their formulas change and the reasoning behind it.

I can attest to @InTheShed and his numbers. I’ve followed his guidance and using MC and man o man it saved my grow.

Take a look at my current grow and the complete mess it was at one point and where it is now!!

The calc right now is the one with 8% Ca and 3% Mg. You can
Damn this threads blowing up again and still no UK stock  no love for the UK
should be "soon" we keep getting delay messages. This is what our logistics page looks like, its been in UK since August 11 but they keep delaying the delivery its quite annoying but out of our hands.

not really. We just tweak it to be most optimized for Cannabis essentially. We are at a good spot now I think, the only thing we might change is bumping up the Mg to meet some special cases.

Its just mostly optimizing ratios for Cannabis. For example, the PK ratio we are moving towards is around is a little bit less than 1/2 P/K which Cannabis really likes especially for flowering period.

9-7-14 is what I've gotten by ordering direct from Green Leaf last 3 orders. We add 4 mL 1-0-0 cal-mag per gallon in hydro with virtually no issues . Neil had me also increase calmag because of the led light he donated for a 2 pound grow with one plant and mega crop was there in the mix . Myself I know of 4 grows I've done this perfectly using the hoods trials . But back to Green Leaf I've never gotten a rock to break down from them but amazon always extra work to use it . Plus I have been getting discounts from direct order . Great product for hydro .
