The Mega Crop Thread

heya,, i was perusing the mega site and came across a section i had not seen before

no reason ever to say mega crop does not have adequate information on their site,, everything one could ever want to know must be in this very professionally produced info package.

at this page,, scroll down to the comparison chart and right at the bottom of the mega crop column,, it says,

Wow! Thanks, @nivek! I just got a 1000g bag for less than $10! And once again, I'm looking with hairy eyeballs at these big jugs of 3-part liquid nutrients I've got sitting around.

Comparison grow?
:cheesygrinsmiley:
@780grow, Hell No!

I am a lazy grower and Mega Crop is the holy grail for lazy growers, IMO. I don't know if I can ever again go back to measuring 3-part nutes, measuring ph, measuring ppm/ec and keeping meticulous notes. Not to mention measuring the silica, cal mag, Hydroguard and bud enhancer I used to use. Even when I venture back into DWC, it will be with Mega Crop. :Rasta:

Final week's are the hardest... The waiting oh the waiting.

I'm not sure you actually know what a lazy grower is. I'm pretty sure I have a lock on that title and I'm willing to toss the gauntlet on the table any time you wish.
In the mean time, get off my title!

teehee.... couldn't resist. I am totally lazy. Hell... I'm so lazy I used time release pellets in hempy pots instead of using something as complicated (you know... putting powder in water.... so complicated!) as MC. It took me a bit to accept that MC was just vastly superior to my Osmocote grows.

Thanks Nivek I'm just now getting ready to order some Mega Crop nutrients for the first time

You all may recall I started out with 3 plants this grow, also had a Pink Kush seedling. Well once I decided which to up pot the PK stayed in her red solo cup. Recently the tent has gotten too crowded with her in there so she is going to be a windowsill plant for however long she lives. Just starting to flower now. Her light schedule has been reversed so day is actually at daytime so we will see how she likes that. The cup is hard as rock from all the roots but she seems pretty healthy for being like 45 days in a cup of coco. She gets fertigated at least twice a day, and sucks it up like a shop-vac...

That is amazing!

Mc buds first to get hung!

I suspected the leaf yellowing I was getting in late flower was due to a cal/mag problem so I am doing a comparison with MC using cal/mag on one clone and MC alone on the other which are both from the same mother. Here is a pic from a few weeks ago of the clones which I am about to harvest anytime soon and I don't see any real difference at all. I won't be using cal/mag on future grows.

Right on, ya I know a lot of people don’t need to use any cal-mag at all. I wish I was in the same boat lol my plants have needed cal-mag since they were little. It’s apart of my normal routine by this point. I experimented by not giving plants cal-mag (died, and had extremely slow growth) also just increasing the dose of MC to negate needing to add cal-mag did not work either as I ended up with toxicities from the MC... My only option was a straight cal-mag supplement with no nitrogen. If I added botanicare (that has nitrogen) my cal-mag problem would be solved but then Id have a nitro toxicity lol So as soon as I started adding a cal-mag Supplement with no nitro everything went off without a hitch. I wasn’t saying that if you use MC you have to use cal-mag or anything like that, I was just throwing it out there that certain set ups do need cal-mag... I assume I need so much cal-mag because I’m growing DWC with RO water? Only reason I’m throwing it out there is because I had a lot of problems when first using mc and it all chalked up to needing a good cal-mag supplement. All in all though, it’s a very simple way to grow plants, and it does a damn good job. I got a couple monsters going now all due to MC. The thing I love about it most, is it’s so simplified that literally anyone could grow good plants with this nutrient lol it literally does not get any easier then this.

I use calmag myself. With (good) LED lights, plus RO water, yep, I need some.

The normal calmag is fine, even with nitrogen. I've used it through flower, no problem. However, the caveat to that is you absolutely must balance out the ratio of nitrogen to potassium, and ensure it is below 1:3 (1 part nitrogen to 3 parts potassium) or you will get a lockout.

One way to do this is by using a silica supplement, like DynaGro Pro-TeKt. It's listed as a 0-0-3, although the 3 is a hair misleading as it's more like 3.8. Rounding, how does it work?

Anyway, using a ratio of something like 1g Mega Crop : 1ml Botanicare CalMag+ : 1ml ProTekt will keep you in line over all. (so if you're feeding 5g of MC, then also add 5ml calmag and 5ml protekt, and so on.)

Now there can be funny things with that when it comes to water culture. What's that? It's the pH. Silica is known to increase pH. However, it's not a bad thing if you can keep an eye on things and adjust as needed.

The other option, as you've found, is to use a flowering type calmag, which is one without nitrogen. I use the organic calmag from True Plant Science. It works great at a 1ml/gal rate to supplement what's already available in MC.

Yes this is what I did, balancing out the ratios between mc and my botanicare but alas... still nitro toxicity. I’m with you on the true science cal mag. That’s exactly what I’ve been using and it saved my crops, it’s the only cal-mag I will use from now on

multi uses @farside05 's schedule. suggest you get hold of it. it balances the nutes in an n-p-k 2:blushsmile:3 ratio - that's the entire playing field for cannabis - heading out of it is where problems occur. i am probably referencing it in the primer we are building for the thread.

it seems there are more folk who feel the need to supplement cal-mag in dwc / rdwc than other media. i am passive hydro - hempy - on RO and under cob from day 1. some of the harshest conditions for cal-mag, and i dropped it no worries, and haven't bothered looking back.

when looking at the ratios the newest version of MC is 1.43:blushsmile:2.6, suggesting there is room for a 1-0-0 or 2-0-0 cal-mag product if used modestly. this is also where there is a tiny bit of headroom left for a conservative p-k booster, as they can bring a small amount of n in some cases.

wish i had the understanding of how it is dwc / rdwc keeps hitting this wall. keep posting guys. :)

edit : should add - @farside05 uses his schedule in other media. in the experience of the board we have seen it useful in dwc / rdwc.

I've been lucky I guess not having to supplement calmag with my MC/dwc garden.
OG Cheese, Biscotti and so far Bday Cake all without anything but MC.
I don't use RO just straight tap water.

Edit: Biscotti was grown in soil
