The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

hmmm interesting thread gonna have to read it

I went directly from T5's to 600W HPS and had no problems (related to light intensity). The big difference was, the T5's were an inch or two away from the top of the plants. The HPS was kept high and the plants acclimated as they grew closer. The HPS was probably 30" above the initial canopy.

i had my hps at about 8 inches above canopy with 68 degree air going in ( blowing directly up at light bulb ) and with hps on for 3 hrs temp coming out was 80

ok major what is causing this

Ahhhh 8in away!!!! That's way too close my brudda!!

Even if heat isn't an issue intensity is!!

Major played it safe, and won at 30in away. Smart.

Hope this helps

A 600W HPS should be at least 17inches away.

Roots are substandard. CE is off in the soil. Probably too many bicarbonates too.

In other words, cull and start over with some better soil. Believe me bro, with a little help from the forum you can do WAY BETTER than that. Since they haven't bloomed yet, you've got nothing more than emotional investment right now.

Go buy a bag of Fox Farms Ocean Forest or Happy Frog, toss in some Osmocote plus and add water. That's the easiest way to a good harvest.

Or....with a bit more effort you can go organic. But if you have no experience at all growing plants, the OC+ route is nearly stoner proof.

8" is way too close regardless of temperature. It's like putting your girls in a microwave oven.

Bear, you got help from one of the best there. I'd advise you to listen to Doc. Start over, do it easy and let the forum help you improve. You deserve a decent harvest devoid of this drama and frustration. The guys have offered you valuable guidelines on lights. Redo your soil, reposition your lights and give it another go. It will be much more fun, and fun is a big part of this obsessive hobby we all share. It's not often we advise someone walk away from a plant. Think about that a minute................. Now, take action to improve.

I know you're attached. We all understand the pull these plants have. Sometimes you just have to toss in the towel.:green_heart::hugs::green_heart:

Let the games begin! Hey Graytail - thanks for the heads up on this sale. :high-five:

Wow - from CFL's to some real LED bombs!
Times they are a changin'.

Daily Update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 81

In the interest of transparency I have to report that when I opened the tent this morning I found one of the 40 Watt CFLs up against the Devil. Didn't take a picture because that was just too painful. It only fried one entire fan leaf and the tip of a bud, but still, Geez. Plan for that better. After the tent gets squared away today and her harvest tomorrow I'll be making some improvements to the CFL usage.

Yeah,..... I also have to admit that I killed off my worms. Keeping tiny earthlings I need to feed so out of sight may not be a good idea for me. Maybe someday when I'm not so deep in matters of life and death. *Sigh* My intent was always to keep them flourishing. Somewhere around the amputation this went terribly bad.

Lots to do today. One of my T8 lights is bad, so I'll need to run out this evening and replace it. Right now I'm sitting out front waiting for the LED panel to be delivered. Hope this driver gets here soon. Dale's alone and my iPad is down to 24%.

Maintenance Notes:
- The Dark Devil got her 1/4 turn and her reservoir topped off, as well as a quick spritz to work the top dressing into the soil.
- The SWICK tray
- Auto Destroyer, Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia, and the New Year's Bag Seed all got their second drench. This was the Transplant/Tea drench, which was done at .5 ml Transplant and .1 ml Tea for each. I overdid the water this time and had more left in the end.
- I'm about two weeks late for this, but I top dressed all five with a bit of Recharge, some EWC and a bit of roots, topped off with just a little more soil. I was so thankful to finally top off Auto Destroyer's soil. That pot was too shallow. We're already pushing the limits with these tiny pots. Everything was watered in lightly, using the leftover drench water for the three that got drenched today and plain water for the other two. In the end all the drench was used up. Two down. :high-five: Tomorrow - first Brix foliar for these three. Right before harvest.

Yeah, easy peasy. Set it all up and let them soak while you attend to all the minutiae of tent gardening. Pour what remains in the basin over the soil and you're done. Another couple weeks and this will be habitual.

Enough words. Let's get visual.

First glance in.

Look who caught my eye today - the Super Lemon Haze x Blue Sattelite 2.2. She decided to become exciting too. :laughtwo:

The youngsters got their top dress. Recharge down first, EWC on top of that. Roots sprinkled over top and then a layer of additional dirt followed by a light watering to begin working the top dress into the soil.

image26816.jpg

All done. A quick look in before I run down to the step to wait on the LED panel.

One thing that occurred to me as I put this together is how the SWICK eliminates the need for watering watering between drenches. That needs to be accounted for somehow because we're deficient in the applications of Transplant that normally go with those waterings. . Other than abandoning the SWICK, which I have no plans to do, does anyone have any input for this? Could I get away with a slightly heavy Transplant/Tea drench (heavier on Transplant)? Maybe just do a light top watering between?

My panel is here, so after I get Dale settled after lunch I'll tear the tent apart and get busy. You all have the most wonderful day. Get out there and spread that joy around. Like love, when you give it away, you end up having more.

:Namaste:

ty guys for helping one opinio was to scrap her and start over but i have put to much tlc into it so on she goes

Hmmm...
Recharge and EWC topdress for the youngsters - and you think you are late? Those are done 3 weeks into bloom, but I'm not sure how that relates to autos this young. I can't think you are late, but I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

I was surprised to hear it, too, but maybe it comes from DrZiggy. In these small pots, and doing 12/12 from seed, it's not a bad idea. I'm topdress/recharging at flip now.

And you would be right there Graytail. :battingeyelashes: Ziggy and I acknowledge that these tiny plots of soil need extra boosting now and then. Still working out particulars to make these trays hum. We'll get there in time. Ziggy's doing quite well already.

That explains it!
Now I just need to wrap my head around why to use 12/12 with an auto (?). Does it turn an auto into a CVT? :cheesygrinsmiley:

cvt?
