The end result of not being sure the living organic soil was properly inoculated with vibrantly active microbial life. She tried her best, but the cards were stacked against her. This is a mistake I will do everything in my power to avoid in the future. Given my current circumstances, I can be forgiven the oversight, and at some point today I'll probably be able to do that. Right now I'm incredibly pissed at myself for allowing this to happen.

Poor thing was 25 days old. She deserved better.

If you want to avoid making the same mistake in the future, please understand what went wrong. The soil has become toxic. Plants won't grow in it. (broad blade weeds probably would, as well as some grasses, but not fruiting/flowering plants)

1. way, way, way too much potassium added with the teas, agsil, malted barley, etc.
2. too much organic matter=unhappy biota
3. (I'm hypothesizing on this one, but 100% certain on 1 & 2) too much sodium and potassium in the rock dust used at the beginning.

Don't be mad at yourself! You're a brand new grower and you recognize a way to improve! You will!

Regarding the circumstances: I'm amazed at what you've accomplished. Simply amazed. And that Dark Devil looks damn good, too.

Chop the Devil. Give it a quick cure. Enjoy it with your guy.

We are human Sue. And prone to failure. But the success is in the lesson learned. I've killed so many of these damn things I feel like I've built up an emotional tolerance to my reckless kill streaks. Haha

Lots of love to you and Dale this morning. I hope last night was comfortable and relaxing for you both!

Daily Update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 80

Good morning everyone. I wanted to thank you all for adding to the joyful celebration of last night. Today reality hits, and it's a daunting task ahead. My goal is to keep him home as long as I can before I have to admit that this is much more than one person can shoulder, even with the back-up assistance of hospice.

In the meantime, this morning I finally got to look into the tent. *sigh* Ridiculous, how hard it was not to see them yesterday.

image26734.jpg

Maintenance notes:
- The SWICK reservoirs were topped off.
- The Devil got her 1/4 turn.
- I gave a quick spray to the surface of the LOS pot to work in the top dress.
- I set the other two HB kit pots onto the perlite. It's simply too dangerous to not do so given the stresses of daily life right now.

The Super Lemon Haze x Blue Satellite 2.2 has come into its 5th node, but African Buzz is still at 4. I wanted to hold off on their drenches until next week so everyone would be on the same schedule. I've already stressed these babies too much already. Look at the stretch on these. Geez. Lighten up Girl. Next tray we'll get it better.

So, my question is, can I let this one go until next week, or should I drench her today? I'm easy either way.

Ok, a walk through the tent before breakfast.

The stretch between the nodes on these frustrates me. I'm actually mostly thankful they survived this crisis at all, but you and I know yield will suffer with this batch. Someone kindly remind me I had other priorities. My brain isn't accepting that excuse from myself. Maybe it will from one of you. Neurons can be weird things, eh?

That's twice this morning I've been critical of myself. That can stop right now.

Cheese Candy, at Day 29, is showing sex. WooHoo!!! I just love it when they start to flower, don't you? :laughtwo:

image26736.jpg

The Dark Devil is demanding her center stage. :laughtwo: Panting to be harvested, or just teasing me? GhettoGrow is firmly on the harvest side. I'm still on the fence. The plan was tomorrow at dawn. Let's take a look and you guys can chime in.

My plan was to take her tomorrow morning. But how do I ignore this?

image26744.jpg

Steadily pushing those pistils out on the lower branches, although there's obviously some at the very top too. So both extremes of this little one are still actively building buds. What's the consensus? Duggan.....? I'm in no rush here.

One last look before we get on with living and dying.

image26747.jpg

Today is a day loaded with possibility and joy. Get yourselves out there and ferret those moments out. Light up your little corner of paradise with joyful expression. We'll do our best here at home. Home. Doesn't that sound melodious?

It certainly does to me. :laughtwo::green_heart:

A compelling argument Major. From my experience of watching Dale last night, and sitting here watching him sleep and labor to get the breath in, I don't think we have all that much time left. It feels like I got him home just in time.

Isn't it always the case that we will allow others more leeway to be human than ourselves. Thank you for reminding me I'm allowed that particular out too, Pigeons.

Of course you are!

It's always easiest to give ourselves the hardest time because we hold ourselves to the highest of expectations. Often these expectations are simply not attainable.

But today looks bright for you two. I'm sure whatever problems come your way will merely pass like light water over a ducks back.

Thanks Doc, but I need to clarify that this little thing suffered in new soil without all that stuff added. I think the real problem here was my failure to hit it with a vigorous ACT to get things popping. I even neglected to top dress with vermicompost when I planted, a rookie error for LOS if ever there was one. The Dark Devil and the amazing Cheese Candy are growing in soil that has the abundance of organic matter and regular amendments. They are obviously thriving.

Having said that, I am entirely open to improving as I go. I'm so wet behind the ears I should be dripping. Obviously the no-till is thriving. Could it be that LOS doesn't translate as well to smaller pots? I question that as well, because there are others who don't have this concern and work in small soil volumes, although these pots are pushing the limits.

Ego tossed to the wind. Let me get through Dale's end of life and I'm your student wholeheartedly Doc. I get excited every time I get within breathing distance of one of the kit plants. There's something magical going on here that is palpable. But understand that I'm going to continue to push back on criticism of a system that is working smoothly in my LOS no-till. The results of that pot speak for themselves. I'm open to improving those results though, and I think you might be the most effective teacher in that regard. I'll do my best not to be too stubborn. Please try to be gentle with me. I do tend to be a bit more hard-headed than is sometimes necessary, but I honestly want to learn.

Poor thing was 25 days old. She deserved better.

Stuff happens - hell that could even be a bad seed, looking like too much TM-7 or whatever humic/Fulvic acid you are using. I wait until the girls have taken off from seedlings to add any of that. I learnt my lesson with that just like you, 8 girls were OK and one just went wacko all single leaves and at +2 months she's still not right, I think it was the seed in my case TBH.
Toss move on.

My new Dark Devil she's ~26 days old I think. Her sister is VERY potent. That one I have to be careful smoking. Smoked some the other night and was way high the next day at work!! yikes! I'm no light weight either, I smoke a lot, my tolerance is pretty high. This one is psychedelic with a long lasting effect.

My new Dark Devil - already getting dark purple - she will eventually turn black as will the final buds.
Not all of them turn black - I just got lucky ..

Well, that got me pretty darned excited BB. Now I'll be itching to take her down. What do you think - take her tomorrow, or give her a couple more days? Major may have weighted the scales a bit, and reading this reinforced it, but you just grew one of your own in this same soil, so you're my authority of choice. What do you think?

edit: I didn't even think of the fulvic acid. You're right. File that one away under "Do Not Forget".

glad DAle is hone for whTEVER TIME IT IS will continue to pray to the winds

I haven't seen an actual surge of new pistil growth over the past several days - she's making some new calyxes but only sporadically. If it was increasing rapidly I'd give her some more time, but I don' see it. While we wait, the resins in the old trichs are decaying.

I say chop 'er! :yahoo: A fun homecoming event for Dale, eh? :cheesygrinsmiley:

I've been thinking about it ever since Major posted that. Sitting here watching him sleep and struggle, quietly crying as I recall he missed out on both previous harvests and never got to appreciate the bounty because of the constraints of living in a nursing home that obviously doesn't embrace cannabis as an alternative therapy.

Done. Lemon juice is on my list. I'll pull the 5 gallon buckets out before lights off and chop before dawn. Oooooo. Got all excited there. :laughtwo: I do so love the atmosphere of a harvest. Bud washing, here I come! :yahoo:

Look at that! Tears stopped. :laughtwo:

Thanks Graytail.
