The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

Mystery Solved - While we're here, lets improve.

We now know that it was my neglect in controlling the placement of the power strip with the three CFLs that caused that mysterious necrosis of three branches. There's no reason to isolate her from the rest of the brood, and they always do better in a group. I think they talk to each other. :laughtwo:

Step one: Face the fact that the tiny Dark Devil Auto can just as easily finish her run in the tiny pot. She'll be smaller, but she'll finish faster too - a desirable trait at this juncture. So let's move her out of the way. I set her under the LEDs, right smack in the middle of things. I think she'll be happy there and grow me some colorful nuggets of goodness.

:hmmm: I could make caramels to take with me to Phoenix. That hadn't occurred to me until just now. I could plan the dose and make that many. Well..... What a nice way to start the day. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Sorry - distracted there. Back to the tent. :laughtwo: The Dark Devil Auto in her new spot.

That left the reflector that was over her up for grabs and the Jamaican Dream snapped it right up. The addition of the power strip beside will pump up the lower buds. I'll need to be diligent about turning her.

Stepping back, I'm not happy with all that concentration on canopy lighting. This is NOT how I achieved success with my initial grow and I believe it's a common mistake made by many cultivators using CFLs. You want those lights surrounding the plants.

Surround your plant with LIGHT

Let's see what I can do about that.

I'm happier with this arrangement, and it's easily adapted to shift the angle a bit more. I think I just improved her chances. Having three less branches to fuel should help her along as well. Can you believe how well that worked out? :laughtwo:

I have some running around to do before I can get back in there, so let me take this moment to encourage you to find at least one little moment today when you bring yourself up short because you allowed yourself to feel that much joy. Kinda like I spend most of my days, and let me assure you, by design and training. Just like I do with you every day. I like to be honest and tell you up front I'm actively trying to improve your life. This way we're all on the same page, you know what I mean?

Get out there. Spread that joy. Make yourself proud. Make your mother proud. Don't worry about me. I'm already proud of you. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Here is a great resource on Makgeolli, including, history and a recipe.

I use Lalvins ec-110 champagne yeast. The only difference from this protocol that I do is to boil lots of water and let it cool in a refrigerator. Then I add the hot steamed rice directly to the jar and add the cooled water to the jar as well. I put this jar inside a large stock pot with water and ice. This shortens the whole time for me in the rice cooling stage before I pitch the yeast and nuruk mixture and lessens the chance of contamination. Keep the fermentation in a colder area of the house 65-70 degrees. Hotter works but doesn't taste as good! I drink mine undiluted but some mix with sprite or use an immersion blender to blend strawberries or even mango. Its really "hip" in Korea right now. Many older people drink it because it is so good for the digestive system. Traditionally rice farmers drink it in order to work happier, kind of the way we work our gardens high!

Nuruk can be found in asian grocery stores and is often called "enzyme" I use a brand called choripdong. It can be ordered online from H-mart, just search "enzyme" and scroll down to find it.

Sue I just love the organized mish mosh of lighting and plants you have! Its like organized chaos! So awesome.

I got it....

:thumb:

Good morning Heirloom. Any chance we could get a update shot of that sweet seedling you teased us with the other day? That was on the Spot, wasn't it?

The little blue dream? Yeah, that was on the spot. In fact thanks for reminding me, Wednesday is the day I take a pic in natural light to document it's color for her journal. I need to get todays pic.

Be back in a bit.

OK....

Under the LED....

Outside, overcast light. The leaf spots are my own fault.

She's lovely. Thanks for posting. :battingeyelashes:

It's so rewarding to open a bin of soil and find evidence of life. This leaf was just casually dropped into the bin about two days ago.

After a couple days without its such a tremendous relief to have regular doses on hand. It's been blissfully normal for me today. I think I better give more serious thought to caramels.

I'm taking the New Year's Bag Seed and Kalashnikova Auto tomorrow morning. They'll be ready for my next batch of brownies. Staying ahead of the game is all I hope for at this point.

Carnival (Day 112)

I have no complaints. She was obviously thirsty, so she got her scheduled TransWater drench. Next one is an Energy drench and then she gets her first CAT drench.

She's doing everything she can to get to the finish line with the rest of the crew. Not a lot of trichome production going on yet, but the LOS is notorious in my tent for starting the trichome explosion just a bit later than you always anticipate. I'm not concerned at all.

Daily Update: Perpetual Tent - Week 17, Day 4

Maintenance notes:
- Moved Jamaican Dream back into the tent and gave her more lights.
- Carnival got a TransWater drench.

image2483.jpeg

I got back there with the loupe and checked real careful. The trichomes are just now beginning to race to cloudy, which is where I'll harvest her. I'll be watching every couple days until it's time. At Day 75 and under this light schedule she's running to the finish line, but the bottom buds need more time. No real amber on the main cola.

My tiny pots. The Bag Seed, the tall lovely on the far left, and Kalashnikova (she's hidden in this picture, sitting right behind AJHxAA, over on the far right) come down in the morning.

I shifted the second reflector a bit to get more vertical coverage. She appreciates it. Can you tell? :battingeyelashes:

* Contented Sigh *

:hugs: :hugs:   :hugs: :hugs: double hugs today as I missed you yesterday. Carnival looks delicious

Missed you too. Yesterday was a strange day. Parts of it just got lost somewhere. :laughtwo:

:hugs: :hugs:   :hugs: :hugs:

Hey Sue,
While the Carnival is a very beautiful lady, I am just curious if you will ever post pics of your panty? I have visions of a monstrous pantry with nothing but box after box of Brownie Mix. :circle-of-love:

Made me laugh right out loud! :laughtwo: I buy them on demand. The Dollar General is right across the street and they sell them at the best price anyway. This is an old Pre-War Victorian, so no real closet or pantry space to speak of. Lacking any storage capacity, I shop for groceries on a daily basis. Everything's within walking distance. I live in an enviable area, with copious shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities, but spread over an open expanse of the river valley. Very peaceful and green, very user-friendly.

I'm ready to move into the mountains and leave all this convienence behind for some natural isolation. That's gonna take some magic on my part to make happen, but "What you imagine, you create."

She's gorgeous Sue! It's gonna be hard leaving her and not getting to smoke her and eat Carnival brownies for a month!

The flip side is that when I come home I'll have some wonderfully cured Carnival, Jamaican Dream, Afghani, Dark Devil Auto and a smattering of Taster Pots goodness to play with. :blunt: yeah, I think I'll be ok. :laughtwo: I should be able to get the White Widow down within the next week, and get enough from her to make some caramels. I really think that's my way to get through until I get back. Even one caramel a day, in a strong enough concentration, will carry me through.

It'll be two months ShiggityFlip. She's talking maybe longer, but I can't stay away from growing much longer than two months.
