The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

Evenin' SweetSue,

I've been learning a little about terpenes, and ran across a few things you might be interested in.

If you enjoy the buzz from fresh buds, it may be because you like the cooperation between THC and other Terpenoids. one class of terpenes, the monoterpenes, are present in growing and fresh buds but either evaporate or are changed to more complex terpenoids during the cure.

The early, more volatile terpenes include pinene (smells like turpentine), linalool (smells like lavender), myrcene (thyme), and geranyl? (Smells like rose oil qnd geraniums). Also limonene.

Turns out that all of the above have modifying effects on cannabinoid receptors, and may be just as impirtant in determining the kind of buzz you get as the cannabinoid profile.

Maybe its one of those interactions that gives you the buzz from fresh buds that you lose in the cure. All of these terpenes are available as essential oils.

Then I was reading about how cigar makers infuse cigars with flavours.

Take a good whiff of those buds from the cotton candy. Compare with after the cure. If you can identify the missing component, you might be able to get some of it back by infusing the cured bud with the early component.

The other thing I ran across, which you probably know, is that linalool, the terpene that is also in lavender, is noted for its calming and anti-anxiety effects. You might consider putting some lavender oil in an infuser in the cure jar containing buds youve grown for your daughter. Or just put some flowers in the jar with the buds.

sleep well! :peace::passitleft:

You know I'm gonna give you reps for this, right? What a night of discovery! I love learning. :laughtwo:

This was wonderfully insightful and I'd have to agree with you. I can tell you my experience with fresh buds wasn't a fluke. I've been buzzed for days on them, and they just get better. I'm pretty sold.

I'll read this again tomorrow when I've rested the eyes. Hahaha! The lights just came on. So my bedtime has now slipped to 5 AM. LOL!

My daughter keeps a dish of lavender blossoms beside her bed and we keep lavender essential oil on hand. I used to grow a plot of lavender years ago. Miss them most of all I think.

I'm going to make another stab for bed now. :battingeyelashes:

There! all caught up :cheesygrinsmiley:

As always a great read  From your description of her, I MUST try growing a little Dark Devil }:-)

I am happy for you both Sue. From what I can tell you had a wonderful long run together.

 always.

All your plants are looking lovely Sue! :) I must get into organic, it seems with organic more trichomes are produced or it just looks that way haha. I caught up on the news of your partner, you are a joyous ball of energy that shines so much light and love. I know that even though his physical form has left your side, his spirit never will :) :Namaste:

Long time no see!

Thank you Happy Hemper. I'd enjoy that. I've been busy sewing all evening. Now that I've finished for the evening I can finally catch that buzz that's been calling me for hours. :laughtwo:

I needed a smaller cup for seedlings that would be transplanted into the tiny pots. This one looked like a good size.

image29400.jpg

It fits about right inside a tiny pot, so there should be room for more root growth after transplant. I'll have to remember these will probably need transplanted earlier than the solo cups.

image29401.jpg

It's been a productive evening.

image29402.jpg

Now, time for some relaxation. A good buzz, a spin through the threads and try to get to bed tonight Girl.

I like that. I've had good success upcanning my smart pots into bigger smart pots for my Auto's. Very good work, reps.

 always.

Thank you, you dear man. That made me tear up and laugh all at once. I am so thankful to have been privileged to share my life with him. What we had was enviable, and we knew it. That made it sweeter and we never took it for granted. Thank you for reminding me of that. What a blessed life I live.

I've missed you.

Velcro the vertical seam. Makes transplant extraction a breeze. Something I have done for years :thumb:

Thank you. That was the kick in the ass I needed to make that change. I think I can cut these and Velcro strap them together, since I have a couple rolls of the small straps on hand. Ooooo.... A redesign. These are starting to click into place and I so enjoy that rush of creativity. What a nice day this is looking to be. :laughtwo:

Photos are loaded, I'm one hit shy of being nicely buzzed and it's time to compose the update. I'll see you soon. :ciao:

Daily Update: Perpetual Tent

I was up straight through the night chasing soil science. Sometimes that's so much fun it's insane. Such things are thought of as dry and slogging to study, and I find myself getting goosebumps when I realize I'm beginning to understand how plants operate and how nutrients are processed and transferred in the soil solution, the universal process of give-and-take that runs the microscopic soil communities as well.

See? Goosebumps!! :laughtwo: Such a soil nerd. :battingeyelashes:

Maintenance notes:
- Filled the no-till SWICK reservoir.
- Topdressed the LOS no-till for her last stretch. :slide:
...................that's it.

Let's go check up on my brood.

image29408.jpg

No glaring concerns. I'm happy.

image29409.jpg

Auto Destroyer (Day 79) has suddenly begun pushing out more pistils. I guess she's not ready to quit yet. I'm OK with that. :laughtwo:

image29410.jpg

image29411.jpg

image29412.jpg

Cheese Candy (Day 79) got a topdress of Yum Yum Mix and Worm Power Vermicompost. She's in her last stretch, and this should have happened a couple weeks ago, but I don't think she'll complain, and it's the soil we're feeding anyway.

image29413.jpg

image29414.jpg

image29417.jpg

To do the topdressing I first pushed the old mulch aside. It was pretty sparse by now, a good sign that things are breaking down nicely. :yahoo: It needed replenished, so I grabbed the bag of reserve leaf mulch. It's been sitting for about nine months now, with periodic tumbling and a bit of moisture every now and then. It smells like forest floor in this bag.

image29425.jpg

I sprinkled just over 1/4 cup of Yum Yum on the surface, lightly scratched it in and topped it with a light but solid layer of vermicompost. This is done one side at a time, working gently and methodically.

image29426.jpg

A nice new layer of this lovely, already decomposing mulch to keep everything happy.

image29427.jpg

All watered in with the spray. I find top watering more satisfying with a spray. I like to think of the fine drops of water dripping their way down through the mulch and gently soaking into the soil surface.

image29428.jpg

One more look at Cheese Candy. Just because she was being so cute today.

image29418.jpg

African Buzz (Day 78). Nothing more to report. Clicking right along.

image29415.jpg

image29416.jpg

The High BRIXBlend babies: Auto Jack Herer is now 16 days, Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia, beside and to the back, is now 8 days on and the bag seed in front is 5 days old.

image29419.jpg

The LOS babies: Strawberry Blue, stunning at day 16, Buddha Tahoe OG to the left (Day 6) and bag seed (Day 9) to the right.

image29420.jpg

One last glance back. Oh yes! I added a second fan on the shelf with the seedlings. Cannabelle left a post somewhere this past week, I can't for the life of me remember where, but I'm sure I blogged it, on the effects of air blowing on your plants. Reading that I've resolved to try and improve that in my garden. I admit, I have a way to go before I'm really happy with that. Always working to dial it in.

image29421.jpg

Now, around the corner, into the living room to

The Tiny Closet

image29422.jpg

Left to right, Ahghani #3 (Day 16) and Afghani #1 (Day 17)

image29423.jpg

Afghani #2, to the back (Day 16) and Carnival (Day 15). It always feels like that when I type Carnival. see? :laughtwo:

image29424.jpg

It's been nice getting this ready for viewing. I need to feed myself now. Still challenged there. LOL!

I hope you all find some way to share your joy with another human being today. Actually, I hope you have many opportunities to live life at its fullest. I'll be seeing you around the threads. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

:Namaste:

. . .

That is wonderful. I am approaching harvest time for my trial run. (full moon this week??) I grow for my Missus and I dried a small bit for about 5 days ago and she seemed to like it yesterday. (she went back to her medical Jack Herer this morning) I hope she is not just being nice, I know she likes variety. And she did like the freshness of it. But, no where near as strong as the medical.

No Biggie this plant is just random bag seed, smell is "BlueGreen" and turpentine to me. I dunno if that makes sense. Anywhoz, in a couple of weeks I am gonna have my hands full of fresh buds and I gotta get thinking about curing and storing. Taste and smell are really important to me even if it is 'crappy bagzeed'. Even if I only taste and smell by second hand. Gonna be fun for her to experience differing levels of cure. And for me to experiment with smells. Gonna learn as much as i can about terpenes.. : - )

Lucky woman, that missus of yours.

Good morning Bear! :battingeyelashes:

Morning to you too Pigeons. :hugs:

Lucky woman, that missus of yours.

Thanks Sue. :Namaste:

I am thinking of going to bed-bath and somewhere beyond for Jars. Any recommendations or other ideas for storage?

How many grams fit in an average jar, quart size? 8oz? I am only harvesting one plant at at time but I will plan on having leftover from one to another.
{{{{{{Honestly I do not know where I would store 12 jars}}}}}

Picking up my new glasses. No more dot in my line of vision. I just need to get through those first couple days of adjustment, but :yahoo: :slide: :laughtwo:

Whoa! Depth perception is curved ever so slightly. It's like the iPad has a curve. Weird and cool, all at once. Let me go to lunch and relax into these.

Morning Susan!!

Yay for vision!!

There's nothing like a new pair of spectacles. I remember when I got my first pair. What a slap in the face by reality. I was always in denial and accused my environment for my vision. (Professors slides were blurry or I just got way to blasted). But when I put them on! What a beautiful moment. I was able to see life as it was presented to me. And what a feeling that was. So there is a bit of excitment involved in getting glasses or even a new pair of glasses.

Enjoy your lunch. And everything you can see

MUAH!

I haven't had enough harvest to answer your questions. :laughtwo: You know who might know? Ziggy and Graytail store in jars. I'm sure someone else here (Pigeons?) can answer it as well.

It's a challenge I've yet to appreciate fully, but I'm working on it. :laughtwo:

It's the enhanced depth perception. Like everything's more 3-dimensional. Is it possible my sight was so compromised and no one noticed? Maybe it's just the eyes adjusting to the new prescription. First thing I thought when I put them on was, "Am I really THAT high?"
