The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

I was planning on just letting it be supported by the fan. I will have to have a look at the flange and blower when they arrive. I may be able to connect the blower directly to the flange, or I may require a short piece of stiff ducting to go through the ceiling vent flap. . .

:blunt: 'ere

I think you might be able to connect directly to the flange. :blunt: thanks

I purchased these Active Eye Grow Room Glasses for about $20. They work well for HPS, OK for LED.

The dark line in the center of the photo is the frame of the glasses. normally worn, they are clear like sunglasses.

Thank you for the tip that sounds promising- I actually just ordered some similar sunglasses a few days ago. I'm hoping they'll allow me to take photos of the hps lit plants through them.

Here's an easy way to mount a fan without any exposed ducting on the outside. Get a piece of 1/4 inch plywood or fiberboard and cut a hole with a jigsaw that lines up with the vent on the top of the tent. Get a piece of thick closed cell foam, I used an old knee pad for garden weeding and make a hole in it too. Just set the fan on top of the foam. It kills all vibrations and results in an airtight seal. The holes don't have to be perfect because the foam creates the seal.

Thank you PeeJay. I happen to have some laying around that might do the job.

As the fan blows...

To note, I use a hybrid approach of Peejay and Rascio's setups. No ducting, the fan sits on top of the plywood and the filter sits directly below inside the tent. Works great for my tiny tent and 4" filter/fan setup.

On a different note, I hope you got a decent amount of sleep last night and that today will go swimmingly for you.

I did get some sleep, so let's be good with that. :laughtwo: My last post was 4:30 and I woke at 6:30. I remember being awake when the lights came on at 5, so 1.5 hours? Don't worry, swimmingly is in the works, regardless. :battingeyelashes:

I'm going to rethink how the filter and fan are mounted and pull together some materials.

Oh gosh Sue! Always such beautiful things and conversation happening here. (Of course).

I've been a watching and reading from afar and it's just not quite as fun.

Love the carbon filter conversation, I'm really soaking it up because I've gotta come up with an approach for my setup and I'm still a bit stumped as what to do yet. I'm still waiting on a new inline fan.
PeeJay, you're on to something with the foam idea. But I'm realizing that that only works if I have a grow cabinet. I've gotta stream the exhaust out of a concrete wall.

So many ideas!

Hope all is well with everyone and I'm sending love and positive vibes to each and all of you!

Good morning Pigeons. Working on getting the update together, but I wanted to stop and say :ciao:

I'm glad you caught the conversation. I was thinking of you while it was going on.

MUAH!

Daily Update: Perpetual Tent - Week 11, Day 4

It was more active in the tent this morning. I filled the LOS reservoir, watered all the seedlings that needed it and gave Auto Destroyer a nice 1/4 Trans/Tea drench.

The Cheese Candy got a top dressing of powdered Malted Barley grain watered in with a mild dilution of aloe Vera juice, kelp meal, Agsil and FullPower.

All that slow watering gave me lots of up close and personal time.

We have a new arrival.

In LOS, one of my New Year's bag seeds popped up overnight. Be female.

Auto Destroyer (Day 71) There's a fair amount of new pistils, but there's not a lot of plant material on this one to begin with, so that's not saying much. Trichomes development is beginning to step up some.

image28904.jpg

African Buzz (Day 70) is impressive as she can be. No signs of slowing down yet and trichomes are just now beginning to ramp up appreciably. She's got a good bit of time left.

Cheese Candy is tempting me something fierce! :laughtwo: She's no where near being done, but it's obvious to me that the top, back to the bend, will need to be harvested before the rest of her is ready. Isn't she beautiful though? The buds are rock solid. Sticky and smelly. :slide:

The tent seedlings. Auto Jack Herer on the left, Strawberry Blue on the right, both at Day 8. The new baby is sitting to the right of Strawberry Blue, but it's too far away to see from here.

Environment holding steady. Duggan, the high reading was because it was sitting in direct sunlight for a few moments while I was playing. When I opened the tent the high reading on here was a nice 83.

One last look before the zippers close.

Moving right along. I'm glad I had that talk with myself yesterday about this grow. Don't know why I insist on putting pressure on where it's not called for. It surprises me still how much Dale's presence in my life tempered my ditsy side. I don't even like to admit I have a ditsy side, but it is what it is. Eventually I'll find my balance point again. I just need to remember it's more fun to laugh through it all rather than cry. I have way more calm moments than tumultuous ones, so I take heart that healing is progressing smoothly.

Get out there and spread that joy around people. You've gotten to be quite good at it by now, I'm sure. I'll do my best here by the Mighty Mon. :battingeyelashes:

:Namaste:

Stating the obvious here, but that's 3/4" plywood, if I'm not mistaken?

luv ya sue still learning lots

Looks like MDF, or maybe particle board to me. But yeah - that's not 1/4". Thinner would work just as well.

Whew, I started reading a few days worth of posts at 8:30 and FINALLY got to the end. I learned so much in that time too. Love the idea of the foam on the tent with the vertical can underneath and the fan on top. Might have to try that.

Also I wanted to post that I have had great luck germinating by putting the seeds in water for 24 hours then on to a damp paper towel folded over the seeds and stuck into an open baggie in a dark and warm place. They pop almost immediately!

The GC without a root never did pop. My only failure.

Joy to you Sue and to everyone else. :green_heart:

I like that idea Tranquil. That comes closest to resonating for me personally. I'll give it a go with my next seeds. Thanks.

Yeah, the journal gets away from me every now and then. :laughtwo: I love it though. :battingeyelashes:

Thank you for the tip that sounds promising- I actually just ordered some similar sunglasses a few days ago. I'm hoping they'll allow me to take photos of the hps lit plants through them.

This is just for everyone who is interested, but the Operator LED protection glasses are supposedly very good. They run around $80.

This post will likely get taken down because I don't think they are sponsors...its sort of hard to share info on good products without naming them specifically, though.

It's hps ones I'm after but I'll check that out CC, maybe they have some. I'm hoping to be able to use them as a filter so I can take photos properly. My only choice for connection to the internet is by iphone and I've yet to find a way to balance out the yellow hps light on the phone's camera. I'll also do another check over the 420 rules around non-sponsors. :thumb:

EDIT----
I checked them out. They do have hps glasses. Turns out I have looked at them before- the method seven glasses. I believe Kriaze wrote a review of the led ones. Thanks. I emailed them to see if they'd sell me a single lens for cheaper as a filter while I replenish the recently vaporized grow budget.

The 420 rules- "Posts pertaining to the buying/selling/trading/swapping/testing/giving of seeds, clones, pollen, cannabis, hash, mail order Marijuana or any other substance or article are not permitted."

I suppose that covers it but as long as we are just reviewing products not working hard to promote the sale of them, it's probably fair in the pursuit of the general mission of spreading knowledge, etc? Someone hopefully correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it's in the area of non-sponsor lEDs, oops I mean LEDs but probably those too, where things get more strict because the non sponsor LEDs have been naughty and annoying.

EDIT 2 - The method 7 people got back to me- they do sell lenses for 'real' cameras, as well as clip on sunglasses which are slightly cheaper than the regular ones- that's about all the info I got.
