The Hexapus's Garden

~Thai Stick~

I should have done this plant more credit and taken some better pictures of it in the daylight but I was in a hurry and, unknown to the masses of people south of here, there won't be any daylight here for another two months or so. And possibly never. Especially if I don't stop staying up till 8am.

I'm going to discontinue this strain for now. I realize now that this whole time I have been imagining this plant to be something it wasn't/isn't.
I had it in my head that it was going to be better than it is.
Like, a vision of the guys at Ace breeding this plant for us, lovingly, so that we could smoke Thai sticks again.

Now I think- 'Gypsy Nirvana' and a couple homeys from his crew spreading some love around Thailand, greasin' palms, gettin' laid and scorin' beans .

Mr Gypsy Nirvana for some reason sold them to Ace, and abandoned the beans (even though the smoke from them was so good he couldn't even review it). (Wow that is good)
Then Ace discontinued them too. Potchimp was growing some from some older seeds he had, when I came along to 420 and bumped into his journal.
His plants all turned out male, no one was selling it anymore, and suddenly the strain was gone.
I had this vision in my head of this amazing strain. One day I got an idea and emailed Ace to see if they knew where I might find some, and they said they found some in a back fridge. So the monkey and I both bought some and the rest is history.

This plant grew a lot better than the round before

Last time I over fed it. This time it actually seems like an ok, reasonably decent, regular sort of Thai. And that's nothing to complain about. Though, I say that having only smoked some quickishly dried samples which tasted like crap.

When I grew it last time I was expecting it to get
-bigger
-better
-frostier
-amazinger
-etc.

Now I realize that it's just kind of a small flowered, long flowering, Thai ditch weed, which I have taken from its natural habitat in Thailand and am cramming into a little box underneath a light bulb, in a pot full of dead moss, and feeding bottled food while lashing it down with a million pipe cleaners, and expecting it to turn out to be amazing. Humans are just so needy sometimes.

I got a few seeds from it, because of the branch that I sprayed with silver. So I'm happy about that. Clears out a space in the flowering room and an even bigger space in my life.

Wow lots of kitchens on sale tonight. I'm so stoned on this here marijuana I think I might just go on a f'n spending spree and get me a new goddamn kitchen!!!
Maybe two 'kitchens'. why the frig not?
I'm stoned so wtf!!!

Btw guys!!!-these things sell like hotcakes on 420, get yours now, before they sell right out 4Evr!!!!!

Cannabis=Stoners=Munchies=Kitchen sales.

Like, Duh, man. Marketing geniuses know their algorithms, dude, and I'm not sure how they get a whole kitchen in the mail but I'm stoned and crazy and hungry so WTF here I go!! where's that credit card lay it on me CeagCoag239 I'm f'n starving and need a kitchen NOW.

Wow,, that thaistick must be some potent,, sheesh,, you are so stoned weaseley,, unreal,, haha

Your comment brought back memories of the summer on the gwai,, sun and light till past midnight,, so cool at the time,, the weather I mean,, so cool in the summer,, ha

That Thai Stick looks quite different than the cross I have, mathai/thaistik, sorta,, a bit different anyway

Sorry to not comment and thank y'all for helping with my mold issue,, never a dull moment indeed. It has kept me hopping, indeed, to try to salvage what I could,, not a bad case of mold at all,, i presume the issue stemmed from a bit o bud rot I had on one bud of blueberry,, it was discarded but beems to have spread around, the mold part, iffin possible, to just one neighbour,, my beautiful cheese plant. Just a touch of mold on a few leaves, not too bad,, but this forced me to harvest four plants,, Just a bit early

The cheese plant weaseley,, Oh my goodness,, i will post some pics when i get er trimmed up,tonight,, what a plant,, i have not even close to grown anything this nice, plant wise,, it is massive. Bet I get near three ounces from it,, normal for me is just about an ounce and a half. Georgeous plant for sure

Four plants harvested leaves a bit of a hole in my flower room, gives me time to clean up a bit again.

Cheers friend,, thanks again for the support, all ya out there, so appreciated,, cheers fer now

Thanks Nivek. Good luck with the mold.
Mostly I've been smoking the Golden Tiger actually. Which I continue to love. Almost no discernible downside of this strain so far. Cause you know that's how I think and I'm always going to find the one thing I don't love about it.
So far the only downside I've discerned is that there is almost no discernible downside, which causes one to smoke more and more and more of it.
I knew there would be a flaw...

Weaseley, what is that I see under yer name?? Looks new to me I see. You rok friend. Well done

He's a man of many honors. We know class when we meet it.

Oh guys, I scream with laughter all the way through a catching up here. Let me wipe away the tears of joy. Ahhhhh......

Weaselcracker, congratulations on successfully letting go of a strain that wasn't serving you. What will you do with the seeds if you don't intend to continue growing them? We are a bit silly about our desire to grow exotic flowers way outside their original comfort zones. Humans, what to do with them but love them anyway? :laughtwo:

I don't know Sue. It's a Thai landrace, and that's important to me somehow. I think, in reality, I will put them in the freezer and they'll probably be there for a long time/forever. If anyone should come along who thinks they want some, they could pm me, if it was allowed to talk about giving away seeds, which it isn't, so they can't, and don't do it, unless you want to be rule-breaking lowlife scum.
I gave it a good try. I know there are better Thai landraces out there because I have smoked some. One of my fantasies is to go back to Prachuap Khiri Khan someday and try to stumble onto that bud I smoked there one time. I posted about it when I first met PotChimp on his Thai Stick journal.

I remember getting freshly harvested and dried herb in Thailand in January. I was in Prachuap at the time, first nice area I would generally flee to, south of Bangkok. I'd spent a lot of time in Thailand on other trips but this was my brother's second day there ever. One of the lads I met in the village we were staying in had walked out to wherever his garden/stash was in the bush, and two hours later appeared with a cloth wrap full of 18" branches covered with small brownish buds. He told us it had just been harvested last week. We climbed up the big hill there to the temple and smoked some. I told my brother who was feeling a bit out of his depth, " Don't worry, the local herb is usually pretty mild". Famous last words, lol. We were nearly hallucinating. For my bro, the whole place looked like a hallucination! Had a lovely evening though, one of my best memories.

Ahhhh..... Memories. :laughtwo:

God, Weasey... I feel your pain! My whole breeding unit was full of mite webs and a jillion mites moving and feeding and generally killing my seed experiment. I wont rant and cry here. I already did in my journal.

As for abandoning strains, I had to abandon the OG Kush because of the tendency to harbor mites and drop leaves till all was left were buds on a stick. Now I may have to abandon the entire crop of mystery plants, because they exhibit the same damned flaws the OGK did. So much for growing and seeding Sativas......

Misery loves company....

Just got back from your thread actually where I posted whatever I could think of. I'm not miserable to drop the Thai Stick strain, but I feel your pain re the mites. They take the fun out of everything.

It seems like we must have called it perfectly with the decision on the hempies. The two I put into flowering are flowering. The three I kept in veg have been vegging. Perfect.
I put two more back into flowering last night.
IMG_45869.JPG

The Peyote Purple is small and lagging behind so she's still in veg. The plant up on the right is the Panama.

IMG_45858.JPG

I'm kind of in limbo with the hempies right now. The ones that have been in flowering aren't looking that great.

IMG_458711.JPG

I first decided they were getting nute burn, and wonder if maybe my feeding routine is all wrong. It's something I've been unsure of since the beginning.

I had pretty good success with doing multiple daily feedings using the hexapus, starting with the solo cup grow and the winning Critical Cheese.
I thought I'd apply that frequent/light feeding idea to the hempy plants, though multiple times per day seemed unnecessary. So I set the hex to water/feed every second day. Using a light nute mix (under 600 ppm).

Now I'm wondering if this is all wrong. With a true dtw plant the nute solution mostly washes right through. With a hempy I picture a little stewpot of nutrient in the base of the plant- changing and getting more (?) concentrated in between feedings, with who knows what sort of ph swings.
I feel like the plants would be doing better if I either
-fed them less often, ie - 'the normal way', or
-drilled holes in the bottom and turned them into regular dtw pots with multiple feedings.

BUT- there's another possibility. Looking at my photos I realized that the plant worst affected doesn't look so much like nute burn as it does a deficiency. I couldn't %100 remember what deficiency except that I'd seen a picture of something like it recently. I thought it might be potassium deficiency.
So I looked it up and got this.
IMG_46029.JPG

IMG_46019.JPG

Potassium deficiency.

' Sometimes you'll get something that looks a lot like tip burn with a potassium deficiency, but it goes in further than nutrient burn, and with a potassium deficiency you also see yellowing between the leaf margins'

Now I'm not sure whether I'm underfeeding or overfeeding. Or some other problem. The ph in the res has been perfect at a steady 5.6 since these ones went (back) into the flowering room.

Do you give a 20% run off when watering?

Yeah definitely I've been getting tons of runoff from those pots over the last few weeks. Last night I flushed them with plain water and then feed them a watered down mix. That's before I started to think it was a deficiency instead of overfeeding.
Like I said I've been feeding them very light so overfeeding wouldn't normally seem likely, but I can see how a hempy pot would be different than a dtw.

But wait! (stoner realization) A DWC plant would be in a constant nute bath. And they do fine with that. I know nothing about DWC but I think they can feed at high levels. So it seems unlikely I'm overfeeding.

Is this what an underfed plant looks like?
(I may be asking the wrong person.)

I've got to get a little sleep... g'nite folks. :passitleft:

Looks burning to me.. underfed looks more tigre stripe pattern, healthier green/yellow.. I just try for green plants, I've found it helps keep issues away

If buckets have slight domes on bottom, salts maybe collecting here and not running out with your runoff.. I just re read this, I don't mean domed bottom I mean like lower collection point than the bottom. Make sense? No..

This happens with my hempys all the time in flower thus why i was going with a lighter feed. I still don't know if that is the issue as im not far enough in flowering.

Damn I could do with a warehouse like that Weasel. 7 years is a good run though even if it was paid for, the fact that it was cheap is the icing on the cake. Maybe the extra dark time might bring some interesting results. When I had that work going on a couple of grows ago the plants had to spend 3 days in black plastic bags and to be fair they grew some of the best sized bud I had, maybe it will give them an extra push :thumb:
That's awesome. 3 days?? I;ve considered that tactic for short moves, like maintenance on the cab or what ever; always been too nervous about the spike in RH and total lack of oxygen being in a plastic bag... Sounds like they might actually like that sort of thing...

The completely stripped one is still exactly the same. The one with tiny leaves- maybe growing slightly??
I'll take a second look tonight and compare to my photo. The plant has only those teeny leaves to bring energy in, so it's bound to be a slow start, and there's always the danger of the root system rotting out while it is trying (I'm guessing). As for the bare stem, I get the impression that cannabis isn't like some other plants which will sprout up from a bare stump.

I took my ballast apart. Not much to work with here since everything inside has been covered in a layer of thick black goo. Everything looked fine to me, as far as I could tell looking at a bunch of black goo. I poked and prodded it a bit, plugged it back in, and it started up fine ;).

image18919.jpeg

Naturally I can't trust it, but I've put it back in the flowering room to see what happens and I'll try and scrape up money for another ballast.
Always the way. But at least you can claim YOU fixed it..!

WOW. Gotta get me some o' that Golden Tiger! Sounds like fun!!! Except for the massive credit card debt the next day....

RE: holding over plants in plastic bags while you are away:

1) Plant make their own oxygen. They wont suffocate. Rainforests and algae in the oceans create the oxygen WE need to exist.

2) The danger in plastic bags will be lack of ventilation of excess moisture. Make some small holes near the top of the plastic bag. Not too big or too many that all moisture will be lost, but enough to allow the excess to evaporate.

3) When plants are in the dark, they use that time to grow, rather than photosynthesize. So, yeah, they will be taller when you return them to their regular schedule. IMO, a week isn't going to cause your plants to go all lanky and yellow on you.
