The Hexapus's Garden

In short, I think this strain, Golden Tiger, is an important step along the way for anyone else out there who is pursuing a masters degree in getting stoned. I highly recommend it, to you gentle reader, for further study.

It is my wifes second attempt at a graduate research project beginning next year.

Like Chief Martin Brody said "you are gonna need a bigger boat" (I am gonna need a bigger tent):laughtwo:

You may have talked me into wanting the Golden Tiger... Was it the stated 14 weeks in flower?
Great reviews... Cheers, Weasel. Looking great.

Yes - get it. And yes I harvested it at 14 weeks. Another cool thing I noticed about this plant was its superior mould resistance. My grow kind of walks the line close to mould sometimes and the GT bud put up with some conditions that would have rotted some of my other strains. Seems very hardy and in spite of plenty of abuse and toasted leaves the bud just kept getting fatter and denser till the end.

Getting too overgrown. 13 different strains here and a range of sizes from the little Cbd Therapy sprout up to a Malawi and Mama Thai that should have gone to flowering a while ago. Five of the hex plants are in there. Them getting screwed up was a setback in this finely tuned machine and the other plants have kept growing while the sick hex plants languish down in their shade, and an empty space awaits in the flowering room.
I found two killable duplicate clones, a P Chunk and a Malawi- killed them, which doesn't make any real difference for space. They were both this size-

I'll probably have to kill one or two of the big ones or else just prune them down tiny again.
Lexort was asking about how much foliage it's safe to remove. So as an experiment I have left the stalks of the two victims in the pots to see how well they regrow. I removed all foliage on the PC but left the tiniest possible bits of growth on the Malawi.

The juggernaut of the perpetual grow cannot be stopped Ak. No one to give the plants to and it's the old crowded lifeboat scenario. No point sinking everyone. Off with their heads. Hopefully the hex plants will start thriving again and I can kick them into the other room.

You definitely went to the extreme with trimming (if you can even call it trimming lol) but it will be intresting to see if they can bounce back from this. This will be of great help to me in determining how much is ok to trim without killing them. After all this time you would think id know how far i can push a plant and in some cases i do such as can the bounce back from being droopy from an accidental drought, and i know yes they can lol but with trimming i guess i still have all that stuff i read way back in the beginning aboit how don't stress the plant too much and so i guess im still hesitant lol.

Is not very often that plants actually die. Maybe sometimes it would be better if they did so we wouldn't have to look at the piteous state we leave them in.
Out of the two hex plants which I left in flowering. I took another one out and put it in veg. Not sure what's going on with it. Maybe the legendary root rot? For once the ph and feeding has been regular - and the other plant in flower is fine. She's just shrivelling. (Oh yeah I busted a branch off as well) .
The Black Death?
Blue Death?

Hmmm that is a weird looking one. Im really puzzled as to whats up with that one. Is that the only girl looking that way then? Any recent changes to that girl? Maybe she wasn't ready to be weened off the hexapus lol.

Damn you! Adding more entries to my seed order... you should be ashamed of yourself!

Thanks for the tip. Mold resistant strains always catch my attention.

When I was doing the diy calmag mixes this plant went through the same ph swings as the other ones, but was one of the two that was still looking reasonably good afterwards, so I kept it in flowering. All six plants ended up with trashed looking leaves but new growth has been fine, if a little slow, since then. She has had a predictable feed and steady ph since then and was doing fine till a few days ago. The one next to her in flowering is fine. There has been plenty of water run through the pots during all my messing around and afterwards- and the hole isn't plugged or anything. The runoff seemed good- I'll look at it again today at some point, but really it seems like she just caught a mysterious flu.

I'd love to know the outcome of your findings regarding this plant as I tend to have a few go this way on me before popping off their clogs, I usually attribute it to overwatering but I doubt it could be the case here too. In fact the CrackerDino plant (in compost and clay) looks pretty much like this everyday although the leaf yellowing is much more advanced, i.e. shrivelled and dead.
I've not managed to find a true cause for it though as although I say overwatering I see it on plant I can't possibly think are, the mystery is afoot.

Cheers, Weasel.. This would actually fit my sativa bill perfectly. All reports I've read are good, and they must be true, cos veryone is sold out of Golden Tiger!!! Of course..
And your garden looks great!! Not so long ago you were posting your frustration at poor-looking garden, and a lot of us disagreed..; looks simply fantastic now. I hope YOU are happy with it... You should be!

I'm in a similar climate to you, Tead, so yes good news..!

Thank you Grizz. My favorite clip of all time, and a family favorite at that. My daughter called while I was watching it and immediately threw out

"What are ya gonna do, bleed on me?"

Weaselcracker, whatever blue death is, that plant has it. You've culled it, right? I don't think you want whatever it has spreading. Just in case. That overcrowded room of yours is looking too luscious for that type of risk.

Try poking a pencil or something in the drainage hole i know they sometimes get blocked atleast for me they do sometimes lol.

It's on the Ace website Santb. I just looked. A fun place to browse through and you can buy single seeds of most strains. I'd also highly recommend the Panama and Malawi - and there are many others the look just as good. Panama seems to come with rave reviews from everyone and it's a shorter flowering strain I think. My one in veg has huge leaves a bit more like an indica - a nice big stocky plant so far.

Thanks. I must be pretty perfectionist :hmmmm:. I'm medium happy with how it is now. Definitely not frustrated. Have just enough problems going on to keep me busy, but certainly it's not all glowing with health in the flowering room either. But sometimes the ones with yellow and crsipy leaves are the ones that have the nicest bud in the end. Let's just say I'm not bouncing off the walls with joy but I'm content-ish. Lol. Thanks for the compliments.;)

Re the sickly plant- thanks everyone for the help and the tips. No it wasn't in a cold spot or in any really different circumstances from any of the other victims. I've tried poking out the hole. It's been flushed plenty with a healthy mix.
Maybe I was just mistaken about its health, after all the ph flip-flops. It seemed to be one of the least affected, but maybe it just took longer to feel the worst of the effects. Here is a photo from last night and it seems to be looking a little (tiny bit) better.

I can see that these hex plants are going to take a while to sort themselves out though. If they're going to go through a whole interrupted flowering/reveg cycle then I think it would actually be faster to start over with new seeds. I'm not going to do that though. But if they look to be a few more weeks of dithering around I'll fill their empty spot in the flowering room with one or two of the big veg plants. Basically I'll have to do that or else kill them, or the sickly ones aren't going to get any light anyway.

DIY CALMAG tests

I'm going to post this info on my DIY calmag thread. Here - Anyone make DIY calmag?

The basic results though, of my three different calcium mix attempts.

- calcium carbonate pills (calcium supplements from drugstore)- raises ph close to 7

- calcium mix from powdered oyster shell dissolved in vinegar- raises ph close to 7

- milk- lowers ph close to 4
