Good Morning Gee-man
I have a couple of pics to post of the heal on the graft plant. This was in 2016. I am still looking back to see the beginning of the process. I called her "Lola".

Lol madam canna you are full of surprises lol you do everything huh? What was the name of your old graft grow ? It looks perfect, very clean, minimal scarring and no rogue graft site shoots this was def a success, how did she do in the end ?

Well Gee.....
I had been doing a LOT of experimenting during that year, attempting grafting of clones, and female branches to male plants....It would take me hours of reading to grind it down to just one plant and process.

Here's a couple more pics of the graft join. It was ugly the first time trying, but it worked. LOL

The process was cutting the branch end in a V shape, and then inserting it into the recipient stem that had water dropped into it for moisture. Then wrapping it tightly, and I kept a clear bag over the whole branch and join area, misted with water to keep humidity in there. I can't remember how long it took at the moment.

Here's the plant after healing. I was just happy it worked, not how it looked. 😆 I think I went on to other plants, and one of them was named Lola because it was female to male.

Wow it healed up nicely!🥰. I like how Daddy Longlegs photo bombed the picture.🤣 This gives me hope, Thank You.😊👊
I had some that failed, it took some trying. This one actually got planted outside after it healed. That grafted area was very strong. Kind of like broken bones that heal up. They get calcium built up around the break during the healing, and wind up stronger.

It was a long journal that involved many different things, making seeds, grafting, cloning....all kinds of chit that year. ;-)
If you look in my signature you will find "completed journals".
It's the Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More

Ahh ok I see it now,it still came out nicely for a first attempt. I have attempted grafting but never had a single success lmao when experimenting. I was also not focused on grafting. I was experimenting with air layering. so grafting is not far off so I tried a few. Most died immediately but some lived for awhile but started dying when new growth started. I'm sure any issues was me cuz I was noobish at time lol. Do y'all know if there is any genetic Crossover when grafting? Like do the phenos grafted begin to show traits from other grafted plants on same plant ?

Oh shizz grafting cannabis !!! Omg I have looking into this it's insane the things this plant can do!!! Wats your grafting journal name? I wanna follow this fr!!
I haven't started yet. My 2 Mothers still need a couple weeks to bush out and be good candidates. I'll do it here in GeeSpot. Probably in early January.

I'm just planning to swap a limb or two off of each and put them onto the other.

If I can get my grafting cutter tool to make the cuts then I might try it vs hand cuts on 45 degree angles. I need to brainstorm some splints too, and possibly some support slings.

I've accidentally ripped branches right off that were only hanging by skin, and taped them back on successfully, so there's no reason this shouldn't work.

Lady C's looked great!😎

I'll need to be quick tho, I'll have to do 2 at once. I think I need a plan to keep the stumps moist. The cuttings can sit in a glass of water.

I'm thinking something like surgical rubber tubing over the graft site might aid healing.

The grafting tool came with a roll of cellophane that looks like a roll of tape but has no glue on it. It's intended to wrap the site.

I was thinking maybe a piece of surgical rubber, then a couple splints, then wrap that in the cellophane.

I'm open to any suggestions here and @Lady Cannafan if you have any words of wisdom I'm all ears😊

I'll have to educate myself a bit as the plants grow.

If you are going to keep a mother plant it may as well be a fruit salad Mumma.

Maybe a piece of surgical rubber 2" long immediately slipped half ways over the stump on a snug fit, with an inch of rubber above the stump to fill with water from a syringe might keep the stump hydrated.

Then I could just slip the cutting right in.

🤔

Oh gosh, I've ripped a branch or two in that "hanging by the skin" manner in the last few months. Like you said, carefully getting them positioned back on and securing them while they "graft back on" works.

I used some tubing on one of the grafting experiments and it worked great. It was a guessing game though, cuz you couldn't see the graft point while it was healing. LOL Those rubber wiring tubes that you heat up and they shrink, I believe is what I used. (don't think I heated it though).

OMG, I actually found a post where I showed a step by step of one of the methods I used to graft. LOL

And here's the shrink tubing one:

"So, I got out my computer repair supplies. I have several sizes of the shrink tubing that you put on wires to seal up the join. One of them was a perfect size to slide over the join of the two plants snugly at the join. Perfect fit. Then I wrapped it with wet perm rolling papers pretty tightly. Let's see how that works. It can be cut off easily with an exacto knife when I need to.

The cutting had wilted while in the humidity tent, but after about an hour without it, she bounced back to life."

I shall now return you to your grow thread. I've taken up enough space. LOL
😆

Whoa! Wait! One more before I go. I found this link on my journal too. Might give you some tid bits for thought.

Thank You @Lady Cannafan thats a bunch of great stuff. Thank You very much.😊

I'll start by reading your journal.

If I get stumped is it OK if I conjure you up for input?
Conjure away. Keep in mind, most of what I did on that journal was trial and error. LOL
If I don't get back to you right away, it could be the internet down again. Can't get a phone call to work more than a few seconds at this point. Hoping a fix is in the works on that tower.

Here's a little assistance I used to keep a branch elevated while healing after a break. This kind of support might help you in a grafting experiment. The red coated coat hanger wire with the hook upside down supports the branch up and keeps it from moving around. Stability is necessary.

It will likely be in January when I actually do it. Hopefully your connection is better by then🤞🤣

This is good to know. I'm really hoping I can get that grafting tool to work. I can see the value in having the stump end propped into place so it won't move. Then hopefully with the graft cutter tool I'll get a good snug fit, and once attached and wrapped, I can support the top independant of the stump and hopefully not move either for a couple weeks.

I like the wire shrink wrap idea too, it has more sizes than surgical rubber.

Not gonna lie tho, a mother plant with multiple strains on it is very appealing.

One plant and 4 or 5 strains would be all I would ever need. 5 flavors of worm food between clonings.😊

One way they grow the root stocks is to bury a root stock tree in a barrel of sand. After a few seasons they cut the main trunk after it has gone dormant for the season and the next season a whole bunch of suckers will grow up but because they are under sand they each will have their own roots and can be used for the bottom section of grafted trees.

Pretty cool stuff.
That is pretty cool stuff. Plants are amazing!🥰

LOL, yes on that mother plant with multiple strains. My long term goal was to do that, but in 2017 I had to stop all signs of growing the ganja due to a scare with the feds. Which is why I was away from this site for a few years.
Now that I have nothing to be in fear of, I'm going to attempt that again. Maybe next year.

On the shrink wrap, you had mentioned putting a "tube" in place and then fitting the cut stem into that to the receiving plant stem.
I put the shrink tube on the cut stem and kept it above my cut, then inserted to the recipients' stem and pulled the tube down over once it was securely pushed in. I wanted to see that the join was tight before I pulled the tube over it.

I look forward to you giving this a try, and please tag me when you get one going. Experiments make the world go round. :circle-of-love:

I'll be lurking. LOL

I will certainly tag you. Thanks for all your help🙏😊👊
