The DIY COB Addiction

If they picked the right spectrum for their 3590, they would have enough blue and red in them to be full spectrum growable. I.e. A 3000k/3500k/4000k

I used one of these personally.

Are you talking about @Bigsm0? Im in the uk so not sure where hes based but i know he's that side of the water lol cobshop.net is his website :) i hope this helps

Holy shit those are expensive. The heatsinks he uses are about $12. The citizens are $12-$14, and that meanwell driver is another $20. Add a solderless holder for $2 and a power chord for $4 and you are into your light for a whopping $52. I don't see how he is still in business.

Any idea where i can get cobs for the uk? Im really struggling over here, the choice is shit & extremely expensive :(

What's up everyone. I'm new to using cobs and really would like some help on how high from the plants I need them? When I switched cfls out with my cobs, I might have stunted them and taking me some time to find the sweet spot for them. Someone told me 18" and I have it at only 25watts total.

I am using 4 CLU048 1212 80cri with 185h 1400 driver.
So I have them at about 18 to 20" away and total of 25 watts. Turned it down alot. How far away would I need them to be able to turn the light up to about 50 to 60watts?

In a lot of ways, watts are watt and 25 isn't many watts - - What size plants are these? Are they in veg or flower?

I was wondering if I could a little bit of help with a Cob build. I'm working with 80"x80". I would like to build an array consisting of a full cycle grow (3500k 90 cri? Or am I wrong)would like best of both worlds I would like to push about the same watts as my current setup so 600 maybe 800.
Most likely 4 plants max maybe more but doubtful.

You just specified exactly what I need as well. Very interested in the responses.

It all depends on your budget what are you willing to spend?

I would like to keep it around 500-600 but I do have 1000 cushion

Cool now there are mixture of ways you can run cob setups.
Do you want just cob leds or a mix between cob leds and qb boards?

You can run a set of 12 vero 29se with a mixture of 35k 80cri and 4K 80 cri. With 2 drivers a 480-1750 and a 320-1750 for a total of 756watts. 63watts per chip @1750ma. Total cost for chips and driver including misc parts that you will need like thermal compound, lenses, heat sinks etc. roughly 820$. That will not include your aluminum substrate.

Or you can do a mixture of 4K hlg quantum boards with a mix of 35k cob leds.

600-800 watts for 44.4 square feet? If you are getting good yields out of 12-18 watts per square feet, I wouldn't change a thing. That's not a lot of light.
