So what's the mix in the 7 gal. pots?
Fry, I ended up splitting all of the cubes. Thanks for your suggestion. The roots were already pretty long, and trying to put them into the whole looked dangerous, so i decided not to go that route. One seed popped out the first two leaves (forgot what you call those) this morning!!! Hope you're having a great weekend.
I make my own most of the time.
40% Potting soil. ( never never Miracle Grow)
40% Perlite.
15% Worm castings
05% Bone meal
Use many of the same nutes I used in hydro
another mix
1 Bale sunshine mix #2 or promix (3.8 cu ft)
8 cups Bone Meal - phosphorus source
4 cups Blood Meal - nitrogen source
1 1/3 cups Epsom salts - magnesium source
3-4 cups dolmite lime -calcium source & pH buffering
1 tsp fritted trace elements
4 cups kelp meal.
9kg (25 lbs) bag pure worm castings
- Mix thoroughly, moisten, and let sit 1-2 weeks before use.
Good job! I hope it works out, but sounds good so far.
major tom, I use just 100% soil, do you think adding perlite would help and how much.

so where do I get it, homedepot? or is it better to get a special kind? how should I mix it in the soil. Like mostly at the bottom or mixed evenly?

Tom, I'l get back to you if I want to play with that at some point. Local nursery has some good soil they mix up and will even let you custom blend it for not much more per 2 cu ft bag.
