Panflyer:Yeah kinda like that with the hood reflector. I was thinking of using a reducer for the top and just cut out the top. And just run a inline fan. Nothing crazy expensive. How does that sound?

Dunno just yet. I was just in the flowering room thinking about making a couple for supplimental lighting. I'm thinkin maybe 8. I think I may make a mini version first to get the specs down and see what I can tweak on it. I love the whole concept of it.I really think the air cool w/ a inline fan say like 200-400 cfm would do great. would keep a nice cool area for mini cabs. Watcha think ?

That would probably work just fine the fixture doesn't put out that much heat anyway. Let me know how it works out for you. Put your mods on it and let's get that one on Roseman's tutorial too! I'd love to see you take it to the next level!

Okay, I did a quick sketch, if you could fabricate a sheet metal hood that looked something along this line you could pull all the heat off the lamps. This would be a pretty cool set up.

Great design mate. Kinda like a rangehood over a cook top. If the top panels have a steep enough angle I'm pretty sure it would create a venturi type effect therefore increasing efficiency and reducing fan wear.
Kinda like a chimney sucks up smoke. One way to check would be to switch of the fan and see if it keeps spinning.

so my water starting to smell a lil fishy. i just did a res change monday. and it was smelling tuesday. its not too strong but it smells. not the roots but the water it seems. any suggestions?

Gotta figure out WHY!

Is the water pump still in the tank? If YES..... does the filter need cleaning, or is it time to take the Water pump out?

Are the air stones slimey and snotty? Is it time to clean or replace them?

What airstones do you have and use?

Can you get some 3% peroxide and use 2 table spoons per gallon of water?

Please give us an update soon.

Got a touch of cabin fever in a track home ! it's even worse without the cabin !Lookin for more rain tonight, so I figure it's a good time to chop that plant ! Get a good start on drying and hit the lifts tues-weds. Than start over and move my 4 new ones to start flowering !! And away we go

Hey 2heihg, on top wat RM said, give some thought to your water temps. They're easy to overlook, and can be a challenge if you have a warm room. I'm always fighting temps cuz it's so darn hot down here!!!

On a side note...

My res still has some mutant growth going on. I trimmed the roots, I did a flush then ran 2 tablespoons 3% h202 per gallon. Ran this mix for 48 hours straight. When I went to drain it, seemed fine. Added full veg nutes and 72 hours later small amount of mutant algae/scum stuff. I am doubting my first assumption it was algae. It's gotta be something else. Now on top of the new scum growth, I have bugs. Bout ready to toss these out and start again, but man am I getting low on meds.

These are tiny little black flying bugs. Look almost like a Gnat. Tiny. Also some black "dots" on the roots. Went to touch them, and they must be eggs or larvae or something. They are not part of the plant at all.

What do you all think I should do? I have decent but slow growth from these plants. Can't seem to stop that funk from growing in the res.

Maybe dump the plants, or move them to soil and make them indoor window plants. See if they can flower on a window sill? Buy new airline, airstones, resevoir, hydroton, etc and start with a clean slate ?

I am also leaning towards toughing it out. Dealing with what I have to. But starting them on 12/12 now. Get what I can from them. Harvest. Then again start with a clean slate and all new EVERYTHING?

Would like to know what you guys think. Any products you think may help? Anything? Thanks a bunch.

Well, my dad used to say WD40 and Duct Tape will fix anything, but in your case........

You have too much invested to quit. Plain pure soap and some neem oil will kill thoe bugs and larvae.
Perosice will stop the scum, just next time use two table spoons per gallon of water, and daily add two more as the water is used. Please don't toss them! Thy can be saved.
