If your going to try it this way first, here is how I did it:

The blender method uses the principle that the resin glands are heavier than water, while other plant material is not.
The blender method uses water, ice and agitation to dislodge the trichomes. Ice-water makes the trichomes brittle, causing the resin glands to solidify and become easy to snap off. The glands are heavier than water so they sink to the bottom when separated, while the plant material floats.

To make hash this way you'll need a blender, ice cubes, a reusable metal coffee filter or silk screening, a large glass jar and paper coffee filters.

Fill the blender about half-way with skuff, then cover with cold water and add a tray of ice cubes. Blend for 45 seconds to a minute, the mixture will become green and frothy, like a smoothie. Pour this mix through the metal coffee filter into your glass jar. Run more water through the filter to make sure you haven't missed any trichomes.

Once your jar is full, put it in the fridge to settle for a minimum of 30 minutes. You should be able to see a white or blonde coloured substance settling on the bottom of your container, those are the trichomes. Carefully, so you do not disturb the trichomes, pour off or siphon off about two-thirds of the green water.

If you have more skuff to process, do it now and filter into the container you just drained. Return to the fridge, allow to settle and siphon again. When you have processed all your skuff, add a few ice cubes to the container and let settle one last time.

If you want to increase the purity of your product you can carefully put this settled mixture back into the blender for a final mix and separation. This may or may not be necessary depending on your preference.

Pour the final mix of water and trichomes through a paper coffee filter. The water will pass through the paper but the glands will not. Drain well and allow to dry. You now have dried resin glands ready to be pressed into hash.


Buying those bags will cost you an extra $80 but the returns are well worth it.

But like I said, this seems to be working just fine, I've got 5 plants in veg. right now doing 24/0 and they are growing an inch and drinking close to a gallon and a half each day, and they're only 18 days old! I don't know if they could do any better.

Bags are for everything. Trim, fan leaves, anything you want. Fan leaves have less of what you are after, but they still work. Trim leaves can really get covered in trichomes, so you net more.

It is instead of a keif box. Keif box is a way to harvest trichomes. Ice extraction is simply another, more effecient way of doing that. Also results in a more pure concentration when done correctly.

Keif box takes frozen skuff (skuff is both trim and fan leaves. basically anything except buds). You shake the frozen skuff on a fine mesh screen. The trichomes are tiny, so they will break off due to being frozen ad brittle. They will drop through the mesh and start forming a soft sand like stuff below the screen. There will still be trichomes left on the skuff, so after rubbing for keif you can roll it up for low grade joints, or turn it into cannabis butter.

Water extraction is the same idea, but based on the fact trichomes are heavier then water. The rest of the plant is not. So, frozen trim in the mesh bags. you stir and agitate the water/skuff mix to break the frozen trichomes off. They will sink. You will have multiple bags, with different size mesh. The first bag will keep most plant matter out. Depending on how many bags, the quality and purity increases the more bags you have. The last bag or two, being on the bottom, nets you the most pure. You can harvest full melt hash here. It'll look like hash, but once it starts to burn, it melts into a more hash oil type substance. Super potent. But after you are done with water extraction, there isn't much left but plant matter. You will have harvested all the trichomes. (this is why I wouldn't suggest keif box then water extraction. You are harvesting the same thing, but making it twice the work. I use my keif box for extras. Stuff that didn't go in the wash, oil, or butter. Or when I am rolling a doob. I use it to collect any falling trichs.

You got it. So many toys! I got all kinds and I love it. I am about to do an ice run this weekend. If I can remember, I will take some pics and try and write up a small how-to for the Deep Water Culture. Hopefully we can get some more Deep Water Culture hash snobs! :grinjoint:


What kind of vape did you get? More then willing to help you get the use of it down. You'll really enjoy smoking from one. I know I do! Quite a few guys on here use them as well.

Well Blitty, I'll be growing with you then. Just did a little prep for my grow. Cleaned up everything, will check function of the pump, irrigation hub and feeder lines, clean my hydrotron, soak some rockwool in 5.0 ph'd water and tomorrow morning I put my seeds for this grow in some pong cups about half full of ph adjusted water and let them soak till they sink to the bottom of the cup. Then it's off to a wetted but not soaked paper towel on a styro plate sitting on my router until they crack witch should be about 24-48 hours. When they do I'll put them in the BP system and fire a starting gun, say a little prayer to the grow God or something! LOL!

I still have 2 plants in the one grow/flower room I have so these little girls will sit beside me in my office to veg with a light hanging from the dresser drawer pull. When it's time to tranfer the new girls to the flower room I will clean everything up, wash the floor and walls with a H2O2 solution just to be sure, spray the hell out of it with my Home defense bug killer and then let them see the 250watt HPS tuned up with a blue augmented bulb. I want to see if they can go the whole grow with just HPS. If not I have some 5000k cfl's to add to the mix.

I figure the remaining plants in the room have between 3-4 weeks to finish up, a couple of days to harvest and heal my hands and veg time from that point aught to be short. I anybody else as tired after the harvest as I am? Combine the physical with an emotional high and all that excitement and it just kicks my ass every time.

I've done the four (you know the strain by now but I can't type it here - let's see if this works -bf***) plants one at a time over the last 10 days. Sampled the first to go last night. These had more trichs then the last batches I did and you can taste it. It was approaching one hit wonder time. Took too big of a toke, held it at long as I could, coughed my lungs out (young pot) and was stoned for 2 1/2 hours. I harvested the four every couple of days and at various states of amber and the last one was a little over 50% and may kill me if the first is any indication! LOL! Whoops, time to burp the bud!

Sounds good MC, im excited that we will doing these grows at around the same time.

Also I posted a few questions in another thread concerning the Vapir 5.0 vaporizer. Will you check that out when you get a chance. Thanks- :popcorn:
 
I'll give you some input right now about the vape, ITS GREAT! I especially like it for sampling my fresh buds. I find I get less headrush up front, but a LOT of back end stone! I also get very talkative, and am prone to playing guitar after a good vape!

Fellow Deep Water Culture and new friends, please help:
Here are two of my plants, and I believe they are boys but i'm looking for some confirmation..

PLANT 1: I'm not sure if this is a boy or just bulbs with pistols about ready to pop out (crosses fingers)

Also how do you guys suggest i rid of these boys. I live in a house with 9 other people so i can't just toss em in the fireplace, and i'm also in a pretty busy city area. My best plan is to wrap them in a garbage bag, drive about 15miles to my girlfriend's apartment and just throw it in the public dumpster there. Any better plans?
