The Beauty Of The Changing Seasons

I removed some old bushes last July and replaced them with Azaleas. Two of the varieties are confused and bloomed.

Amazing Rad.

I need to run off to meet my daughter, but wanted to share shots from along the river. Enjoy. :circle-of-love:

The berries are just like the ones in my profile picture, beautiful, I'm curious as to what they are. My profile pic is from berries I found on a walk in Kentucky close to a home I have there.

Hey DRM - They really look like muscadine grapes to me. In the pics above I see the grape leaves. Makes an awesome, delicate flavored jelly. You would certainly have them in KY. Look for thick, woody like vines that are growing up into trees. Don't confuse the woody stem with poison ivy, lol.

Google muscadine grape and look at the pics.

Well, it's here. The first true snowfall is coming down heavy and wet right now. I'm guessing I won't be seeing any green later today. LOL

Here's a couple quick shots:

Tea roses are done, but I still like the effect of the snow caps on them:

These are the berries on the burning bush:

And the honeysuckle are watching the pond. Hopefully you can see the snow falling in this one:

I just love the stalk on that Mushroom, Electro Gypsy. Rains always make mushrooms look so vibrant and full of color.
Great view of the snowy mountains, and I really enjoyed that last picture with the sun gleaming in and the stump in the foreground.

Clams? Do you get them where you took the pictures, like the last one? How do you go about gathering them? I've always wanted to try that...and getting fresh lobster as well.

Thanks for the pics! Hopefully you can enjoy a few days of no rain now.

yes. yes. yes. anyways you can lol, and not much lobster but we have tons of shrimp and crab. i so miss that. i can't have crustaceans any more due to allergy. :( brutal when you grew up on the stuff and it's all around you.
everything else is fine though.
we have several clam species pretty much everywhere. goey duck being the crown jewel.
be_vewy_vewy_quiet.jpg

very hard to catch. it requires strategically digging realllllly fast. usually takes two people. they also have clam guns which is basically a large tube, but honestly they are not much easier lol. most of the time i go for easier prey. the stuff that just lies around lol. horse clams have to be caught the old fashion way tho.. by hand. sneak up. grab the neck with one hand and dig with the other. quite a work out lol. usually takes around 20 minutes to pull one out that way. the big one is the horse clam, the ridged ones are cockles and then there are some mussels. two different types. OH and that first beach Canna is good for steamers. probably my favorite next to mussels.

not sure how these panoramic shots will show, but here goes..
the beach at Allyn. such a cool little town. when the tide goes out here it really goes out lol

here's a few more from one of the beaches below the house here on the island..

Gypsy,
thanks so much for taking the time on the clam pictures. :) Damn, that sounds like way too much fun! I never realized they were that fast, and big....
This is now on my bucket list for next year. I can just imagine the laughter and joy of finally snagging one after trying that long. LOL
Kind of like finding a morel mushroom in the miles of natural hidden obstacles in the woods. It's a true treat. :)

That poor starfish...will it survive until the tide is in to take it away?

Radogast, you are soooooo right on the soggy, slurpy. My driveway is a soggy mess right now. YUK! ;-)

Edit: I just watched a couple youtube vids on digging geoducks and laughed my arse off. What a trip! Makes me want to try it even more, except that is not beach sand...that's grey clayish stuff and they got soaked with it!
:laughtwo:

yes the star fish will typically survive if near rocks. that poor little guy wasn't. i did carry it back to the water tho. many star fish rescues have happened over the years lol. the goey around here like that sand, but some of the best steamers come out of the muck. they can also be in a sand gravel mix like the horse clams. the cockles are just laying around everywhere sealed up tight like oysters. the fastest are razor clams, geoy and horse clams

morels mmmmmmm. i have to figure out dinner yet lol

Ha! Allyn! I lived in Oly from 2000-2005, just 6 blocks from the Capitol building. Used to camp and ride dirt bikes out at Belfair. My job took me all over the PNW. There are very few places I haven't been/seen in the tristate (ID, OR, WA) area. Beautiful.

:peace:

I drive through Allyn and Belfair almost every day to and from work. Well, that's if you call Belfair driving lol. Sometimes I bypass Allyn and go down South Shore Hood Canal and cut through the Mason-Benson road just to change it up on the way home. This one is from Sherman Heights rd just above the Hwy 3 and 16 interchange. Looking across at Port Orchard.

I've been all over the country and outside a few times, but born and raised here. Nothing like it. It will always be home.

I think I posted a question last year here about whether any critters eat the berries from the burning bushes.
Yep they do! I just watched a Cardinal, who was the same bright red as those berries, chowing down on them.
Now that I know he's finding food there, I'm hoping to get a good shot or two of him and that surrounding white.

Ahh....I just love a good challenge!
