Would that be Mertensia virginica, the Virginia Bluebell ?

It's on my short list of 26 plants for the front yard :)
Why yes it is. Its a spreader in my zone (6) and makes a decent ground cover. Flowers at most stages of maturity.

Do you think it would help with erosion on a slope? I have a 5' tall by 7' deep slope where the public sidewalk meets my front yard. In the places without grass, it spills topsoil onto the sidewalk during a heavy rain. The full sun where it is grassy resists erosion, but I am looking to add plants in the partially sunny and shady parts. Since this slope borders the sidewalk, it would be nice to plant something pretty :)

My (zone 5) short list for pretties that might help control erosion on the slope are: Self Heal (Prunella vulgaris), Dutchman's Breeches, Virginia Bluebells (Mertensi virginica), and Foamflower (Tiarella.)

This is my first spring with them so I don't know too much .. I do know mine are facing south, live under a dozen or so hundred foot oaks. They seem to prefer wetter soil but mine grow in loamy and mulchy soil.

The last pic shows they are connected by under ground runners.

I thought at first, an Osprey. But with the little tufts of hair coming off the head, that's probably a Heron. :)

The minute I saw that picture, Tead....for some reason a song came into my head. "Rapture" by Blondie, has a line about eating cars.

I wanna go with blue heron... just because that's the normal flavor. I shoulda walked across the street to get a closer shot.
We have some large birds down in the swamps. Lots of long legged things picking fishies outta the water. Before Katrina we had a huge flock of green parrots that started when some escaped during Betsy in the '60s.

Cannafan... you happened to point to one of my all time favorites. Ground breaking in it's minor introduction of rap to mainstream music fans. There was lots of other samples of it at the time, but having Blondie roll some out really brought it to the attention of the world.
On a related note, Pat Benatar does shows over in Biloxi every now and then... my sweetie always drags me to a show. She kinda looks like my "old Auntie Pattie" these days rather than a wild rocker. Funny.

I am a huge Pat Benatar fan, so I can relate to dragging a sweetie to a concert.

I have Great Blue Heron's here all summer long eating the smaller fish in my pond. They have very long legs. if you saw one on top of a car, there would be no mistaking that.
Toward the beginning of the summer season I will get Green Heron's here. They are very short legged and stocky as Rad said. Very beautiful birds!

I concur with Radogast, it looks like a Black Crowned Night Heron. Google images......

I swooned over Pat Benatar, just like every other teenage boy in the 70s. It was 10years (well into her Mexican period) before I realized most of those cool songs were old standards. Pat Benatar brought them back to life.

And defintely NOT a Great Blue Heron - one flew over the house yesterday. :)

Janis and I rock regularly. :thumb: Gawd, and this is no disrespect to anyone who loves Country and Western music....but I heard a country singer singing "Take Another Piece of My Heart" on the radio the other day. I had to turn the station....just me...sorry. I don't think it was Faith Hill. I'm just about to look up the original by Erma Franklin and see what it sounds like. ;-)

Well, it was a perfect day outside today. Yes, outside.....finally.

First things first...every year I clean it out, and every year they build a new one. Danged mice.... My poor lawn mower engine.
