The 4x4 Grow Tent Club

I'm going to invest in a nice setup for my next run. I didn't even run an intake I just open my tent during the day. But it seems like when I have my tent open I'm just wasting power running my tiny exhaust but it still removed some stale air in the room.

I tried running a passive intake before getting a booster but I thought my tent was going to implode. Ended up keeping a flap open.

I'd say any exchange is better than none regarding your cost benefit dilemma.

under a 1000w mh in an 8in cool tube.
the inline keeps the tent at perfect temps but it heats up the room its in ., also got it pulling in fresh air from out a vent.

Great thread for us tent guys.

Mine is the same size as yours,
Light: 400w Metal Halide/600w HPS
Vent: 4 in inline fan venting through the hood, but need a glass to close the hood offf.
Fan: One box fan on low
Temp: 81 running light 24/7 due to the very cold nights. The tent is in a detatched garage.
RH: 22-25%
Have 9 seedlings in the tent now under the Halide, a couple weeks and the light and time will get flipped to 12/.12 and HPS.

it will soon be filled with plants, peace OG

What soil do you use I have local soil that has bark in it and don't wana use it any help would be appreciated

I use Canna Pro Plus. One of the downside of using soil from your yard is that it can contain pests that you will be bringing into your tent.

@Cornfield Gro oh...my.... just beautiful, how much do you think each plant will yield? I have NEVER joined a forum in my life, but I came across this amazing topic and I had to be part of it, ill post pics of my 4x4x6 soon, I am new to forums and to growing so I hope the community is not to harsh on me, I will post pics of my set up in a few days and ill be starting my first grow in a couple weeks when my seeds come in, i will keep everyone posted, thanks so much for ALL of this info since 2010 I have read almost every page and learned so much I am very excited I found you guys as I was diving head first without help just self knowledge. I was going to start by doing two plants in 10gallon pots, after seeing this I am thinking of doing 4 plants, do you think it will be too much for my first grow or would you recommend me to give 4 a try?

thanks a lot everyone for the amazing info and pics

Hello, ΑΩ, and welcome to 420 Magazine. Glad to have you with us. May you learn much, even perhaps teach a little, while you're here.

Since you're new, a free hint (they're all free hereabouts ;) ) : To a NEW grower, a plant that is badly over-watered can almost seem like a plant that is badly under-watered... Until that grower decides to lift a pot, lol. Poor watering habits seem to be a danger for newbie cannabis growers. Cannabis generally likes a real good watering, and then to be allowed to dry out a good bit (no, not crunchy dry, lol). This helps avoid root rot and - combined with a well-draining medium - promotes proper aeration of the root zone.

I spent all my free time going through ALL of the pages of this thread, and I want to give a big thank you to everyone for posting. So much good information and experience .

Vivosun 4x4x6.5 $115 on Amazon
(1) ViparSpectra 1200w LED (have not checked actual) $400 on Amazon
(1) 4" Vivosun carbon filter $45 on Amazon
(1) 4" exhaust fan (from trial and error I know I need to go 6" but I received the fan for free)
(1) FridgedAir AC (9,000 BTU) reduced w/ 8" flex into tent previously owned and cleaned
(1) Vivosun fan $20 on amazon
(1) Twin fan on floor previously owned, cleaned
(1) Full 4x4 Scrog (should be 20" from base of plant once in the 5gal) under $20 in material
(4) WiFi OG currently in 2gal? Pots , but will make there way into 5gal smart pots (should have transplanted directly)

Ladies were under a T5 in my closet while I was prepping the tent for about a week. They were in red solo cups and needed to be transplanted immediately and I only had the 2gal. I received the clones from a friend, and can only assume I'm coming to he end of about week 3. I plan to Veg until they are at the net, as they are now in the tent under the Veg light setting 24/24. The AC unit has been modified, opened up so I can move the control board with onboard thermostat into the tent to get real time readings vs the outside of the tent. The AC is nice, but simply runs way too much to keep the temp steady at 70, off and tent unzipped it sits at room temp while my 4" fan is running and exhausting out the window. The AC definitely pumps in too much air, creating positive pressure and strains the AC unit even more..so it's off at the moment until it gets hot here, or I upgrade my exhaust fan to 6". The Light is sitting just about 26" from the tops, as recommendations said no less than 24" to avoid burn. Biggest girl was topped 3-4 days ago, the others were topped last night.

This is day 2 of the ladies in the room, some pictures below to show you what I'm working with. Sorry, the lighting makes it impossible to see them in the tent.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself, along with Thelma and Louise. Lemon Walker From DNA in my DIY RDWC System with a little aeroponic twist to it. They're starting to smell up the garage a little bit so any recommendations on exhaust/filter setup is appreciated!

Minimum CFM for fan =
Tent size (4x4x6.5) + 25%
Tent total sq ft = 104 + 26 = 130 CFM
I would not go with anything smaller than a 6" fan and flex tubing. You can always use the speed controller to slow it down if needed, better safe than sorry for the price difference. I currently have a 4" (unknown CFM) and it is not nearly enough volume. I'm hitting temps of 81-83 with my LED and 4" exhaust, personally too warm for my taste. You can find bundle deals for the carbon filter, fan, and flex for fairly cheap on Amazon/eBay etc. I was going to upgrade to the Vivosun 6" kit w/ 440 CFM for $170
VIVOSUN 6 Inch 440 CFM Inline Fan with Speed Controller and 6" Carbon Filter 8 Feet Ducting Combo

The tent quality is great for the price, there are a few pinhole leaks from over stitching and such but nothing I wouldn't expect to see in all other tents in its price range. The zippers don't seem like they would fail, slide very easy etc. Weight support wise, the LED light is at least 30lbs and I am not afraid in the slightest of any sort of failure. Again most of the tents in this price range have similar if not the same frame structures. I would buy another, and do not feel the need for additional height or strength for my indoor apartment grow .

Hi, I'm a noob to growing, but I just got a 48x48x80 Apollo Horticulture tent and I need ... basically everything else. Starting with the light: I'm thinking of getting the Viparspectra 1200w mentioned in the post just above. But I don't really understand the distances you're supposed to hang the light from the plants. The tent is 80", and on the Amazon page for the light it says you should hang it 24" from the plant. But some people say that burns the plants. Does anybody have some advice about how far to keep the light from the top of the plants? I imagine as they grow you have to keep raising the light ... but what about plants that grow to different heights?

Sorry to be dumb, but I am, and I also am trying to buy gear for a place where I can't order from Amazon so I have to try to get it as right as possible before going there.

Thanks for the help!

I have my ViparSpectra 26" from the tops, and they are doing just fine. I noticed the same "complaint", and have been cautious so far with no problems.

I like my Viviosun tent too. It is decent, but not top end. I have climbed inside of it with the lights turned off to check for light leaks and sat for about 5 minutes to adjust to the darkness. I could not see any. Granted the light in the room the tent is in is not bright and I have blackout curtains on the window. It seems to be doing the job. My one plant in there just keeps growing and growing and growing. I wish it would just calm down and start fattening up, but that is more my fault for thinking that it would only double in size. My next set of plants will go in with only 6" of vertical growth so they hopefully end up a much smaller and more manageable size.

I have the Vivio Sun tent it's no gorilla but it's good. The Viper Spectra tents are nice also.
My tents currently holding a stealth grow 602 600w LED a Viper Spectra 600w LED a 4 inch carbon filter and 4 inch exhaust fan and a 16 inch oscillating fan in the corner.

Hey bud I have no idea. This is my first grow ever. If I get 2-4 Oz dried per plant I will be happy. Next time I'll be going to 5-gallon pots instead of 7 gallon smart pots. Almost only want to grow a two I have four in there now can't get in there to do anything. The sides of my tent open but I'm not the smallest guy in the world so it's kind of hard.
