The 420 Fotographer Collective: Advanced Cannabis Photography

I'll pull a chair up In here. Not one for bios or cameras for that matter. All my photos come from a Sony xperia X mobile phone, the only camera I own. I'll share some pics in here from time to time, only the pretty ones tho :passitleft:

There's much to learn from the not-so-pretty ones Mr A. We have the eye candy thread for the pretty ones. This thread is for helping each other to improve. :battingeyelashes:

I’m here urban. But I’m not all that experienced. I’ll learn more here than I can teach. I just point and take picture lol so I’ll probably be able to up my game with your tips because they are always 100% spot on brother.

I think you do a decent point and shoot rooster. Take the leap and do a bio. In a year you'll be shocked at what you've learned and are now teaching to others.

UA, I think I'll invest in a reflector. Thank you for that tip. I wouldn't have thought of it on my own, and I'm always looking for ways to get light into those tight spots I want to photograph.

Grow method and strains:

I grow hempy with perlite and soil using Doc Bud's High Brix Blend kit. As to the chemovars I grow, you'll always find CBD Critical Cure from Barney's Farm, Carnival by Ministry of Carnival, Candy Cane from Crop King Seeds (mine may be another photo instead of the auto it was advertised to be), and the Jamaican bag seed I brought back from my visit last year.

You'll also see Dark Devil Auto, Blue Dream, and Thin Mint GSC in regular rotation, as well as the amazing Devil's Carnival. I have four flowering spaces and a closet for autos. It's an eclectic garden and I have more seeds than I'll ever be able to grow.

Camera, Lenses and Gear:

I'm a point-and-shoot wrangler of an iPhone 6. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Experience level and photography background:

I'm an artist my nature and training and a photographer by necessity. This is a visual neighborhood. I hope to show the garden and any process I'm demonstrating in interesting, visually appealing ways. You deserve my best. :battingeyelashes:

What is your style? (portrait, journal, macro, outdoor, instructional, various)

I'd say casual. I want you to feel like you were standing right there with me.

Favourite lens or type of shot:

A crisp, unusual angle that catches the eye with a splash of color added somewhere for a little zip.

If you could give 1 tip for new photographers:

Take lots and lots of pictures and crop. Best advice my daughter ever gave me (she's a natural behind the camera) was that almost every picture can be improved with cropping.

Other introductory options:

Please share 1 of you favourite photos and explain why it works so well for you. What equipment did you use?

I'm an artist drawn to the beauty of the line, which makes cannabis particularly delightful to photograph. I'm also fond of too many of my photos to pick a favorite, but this one does it for me on many levels.

* It's an odd angle, which is visually interesting enough to draw up you in.
* The photo illustrates both lighting sources used for this plant.
* The line is stunning.
* Color splash from the glass beads pulls the eye into the picture.
* I like the depth, from in your face to the sky beyond the window.
* The colors work for me. I think this is a visually stimulating photo, and that's my primary goal with every shot.

My Spot thread tends to be heavy in photography. The link is in my signature. :battingeyelashes:

Thank you for the welcome. :hugs:

Now that was a fantastic introduction Sue, love it, some great stuff in there.

I know I feel like I am in your shoes looking through your photos. I feel like there are a lot of plants in a small space lol. Some great angles and points of view. Vivid bright images. For those that like photographic journals with a lot going on, Sues perpetual journal is a must see.

Excellent tip too. Take a lot of photos and crop. I would even add delete a lot of photos. Be selective.

Here to learn brother!!! Teach me Master Yoda!! I am but a middle aged padawa!
lol I am just a fellow student, but I guarantee there will be something for everyone, already feeling it. Compared to a real photographer I am merely a hobbyist. This will be a good thread for knowledge and experimentation.

Really it was needed
Its the natural progression that I have seen with other topics. I am happy I can be part of one and actually contribute.

Here to learn. .
Welcome! Glad to have you, jump in whenever your heart desires!

Wow

I'm in for sure
awesome, welcome Chris, looking forward to this myself, glad to have you on board.

I think you have natural talent and beautiful plants. I think folks underestimate themselves.

Exactly. Inquiring minds and the like

What a great thread! I love photography too, I actually developed my own film back in the day, lol film lol...

Happy Photos!

T.
Great Techman! Welcome to the thread. Would love to hear more about the fun of shooting film, the challenges, and what its like in the digital age? Pop in anytime and share some knowledge or perhaps just show off some cannabis

Awesome! You will LOVE it. Especially because of your set up and access to the plants. Cant say enough about them.

Excellent intoduction. Those colas are looking amazing. Really captured the colours coming out.

I really love the camera phones. Amazing images. There are websites dedicated to smart phone photography and it has some mind blowing stuff.o

Great tip! Light is so critical. Especially on camera phones or point and shoots, as they dont have the low light processing more expensive cameras do, and the more light the better the sensor can focus on detail. This limits shadows too and gives a more consistent look. This is why I personally use the reflector. Until I create a lightbox or get some supplemental camera lighting.

:ciao:

A quick hello.

Here is a couple of 420mag links with Foto Capture info that I could find in my subscriptions. I will look closer later.

Some marco info for those up-close trichs shots.........

>>>>>>Growers' Macro Photography - Tools & References<<<<<

Some white balance info for the blurple lights and general more natural light looking pictures. Kriaze started this one if I recall, he is a wonderful photographer.

>>>>>So you got your LED lights? Now time to show off those buds!<<<<<<<

I have to gather my thoughts before I fill in the info above
Great day all

Glad you made it. I am looking forward to your updated bio. I know you have a LOT to add to this discussion and I for one am pretty excited about it.

Great link by the way, I was going to do the exact white balancing how-to later tonight, but not anymore as its right there! Thank you for popping in

Just a lucky shot :thedoubletake:, looking for a macro lens for D50, suggestions? Thanks for the thread:Namaste:

Wow, great looking plant, and a nice photo. Has it been smoked or is that recent?

Hmmm a D50. What about the 60mm f2.8 or the 100mm f2.8? I have the 100mm and its pretty slick. Could find some good ones used for a decent price too.

That smoke is now a memory from recent times. I'm not sure which lens to get so I haven't one, much like which LED to get instead of my old school HPS/MH, I'm getting to old to make quick decisions, need to stretch my dollars with wise decisions.:Namaste:

I bought a camera when I started a journal here. I am still playing around with it today. Lol.
I just find it fun to mess around with pictures sometimes. Pics are a great way of checking
trichomes as well.

Lighting and background are very important. I still have very little idea of what I am doing there.
