Yeah, if the initial scratch your cool with, then it's a smart outlay that will be less headache over the long term. Use dimmers.

After shitty day, go to shed, fire one up, play some ska. done with it.
Enroute! LoL

QBs are mid powered white diodes spread over a big surface area. I run a variation of them, Penny's got some mad dabber has some Chris Scorpios got a few, there all over the place now. Graytail and purplegunrack have some more diy versions

trick question, 1k

How many ft 2 does your 1000w cover?

Poor response to a dude that's just looking for information.

In response to the question the hlg 550 which is a 500w setup is marketed as a 1000w single ended hps replacement.

My wife and I have seriously considering using only paper plates indefinitely just so we wouldn't have to use our dishes lol.
Sup hi brix rick. Lol my brother and sis in law did that for many years lmao!

Not really, IDK what size place he is running it in. I would have guessed 600w, like 6 boards in what i've seen. Also think HPS is more forgiving for having plants outside the sweet spot and still do pretty damn well.

But others would say much less...

Sorry for hyjacking your thread Preston. I'll do some research on the QB lights. I have to say tho that my HPS lights are dimmable 240v and they definitely perform. My nugs are typically dense AF. Lol

Hey if it ain't broke... but yeah they market the hlg550 as an equivalent. But for half the price you could just buy 3 × 4- qb132s it would be 400 bucks and cover like 5x 5 f t area. I think drivers are 60 ish so 200 for driver. No heat sink required. Frame and wire less than 100. 750 watts to do 1k hps of work. No mover needed. Better light distribution. Likley better yields with less light power consumed.

But will it pay for itself compared to the HPS? Idk depends on your kilowatt hour price. Here in Alaska mine already paid for themselves. I'm running under 400 watts, using no Ac and pulling well over a gram a watt

If you build it, post the tutorial here :).

Consider Samsung strips like Rider as well. They work damn well in his dedicated room!
Yep. That's really the best way to go!

kwh is a biggie. I really don't think one way is better than another. The smaller the grow, the easier with qb, but I could see a commercial op shying away from it.

what's yalls kwh cost up there?. I have an expensive plan and mine is about .12, if one shops (open market), they can do shorter plans for like .08

.22 plus a 17.50 flat fee. 600 kWh runs 154 and change.

Correct for larger grows I agree HID would be ideal. However many run led up here. Idk why. But they do. Also only 1 million people living in the largest state in American. So the grows arent anything like west coast

Jesus Christ, armed robery. . .

The way I see it we average around a little over 200 a month. 3 months 700 bucks. Also, I can grow a pound of dank in 3 months. And a pound here would probably run roughly 3500. (I assume I have no clue).

Regardless it's a joke!

Holy crap you guys must be paying more than going rate here. My total bill last month was 180$ that's running everything else in my house including central air, electric dryer, stove, ect. For who asked what my coverage with my hoods. I have 2 XXL air cooled hoods each cover around 5x5 area. Now my ceiling height is 8' 6". I like to run what some call a quad (4) large plants under each. Currently I have them 3' apart with the ductwork going through both lights. I really like mine because the digital ballast are dimmable down to 60% and they have a super lumens setting that gives me an extra 10% = 1100 watt. But I only use it for when I think my bulbs are getting weak. At the moment I have 6 large plants under them. Got them at local grow shop as a kit both MH and HPS bulbs plug and play for 180$ otd each. As I previously stated, for the up front cost can't go wrong with HPS. They have stood the test of time for countless people. But the do create heat. I would only buy air cooled hoods for sure
