OK, so it sounds the same or similar. I stepped on mine. Twisted the frame, plastic cover holding the lens in falls out. It's no wonder I can't see the trichs.

You talking bout the foxtailing bro? Im pretty sure he put it down to him dropping the lights lower or using both lights on the plant i think. Same happened to me cos i dropped the light closer like a greedy fool lol

A
Yeah... I burnt mine up pretty good a few weeks ago. I lowered lights, and had both 600w HPS sitting over her. It was a bit much.

She never stalled out because of it, but she is a bit ugly now. LoL
Ah there ya go @MrSauga i thought that was more recent lmao

Hey Bilbo, it was actually the taco'ing(I'm assuming you meant that anyhow) of the leaves. The uppers specifically. I didn't relate it to the lights being dropped because the other plants were 3" taller with no affect on them. But it has all the signs of heat stress. They were raised back up as soon as I seen what was happening. One reason why I don't like to change many things at once. It's easier to narrow down what just went wrong :)
Thanks mate!

15x or 20x and be done with it.
I'm assuming you have one? That magnification picks up the trichs OK then. I have read that around 40x is the minimum. The 15-20 from B&L...is it as strong as a 40x based on the triple glass lens design? My crappy 30/60 only lets me see trichs at 60x
Thanks.

Different strains take different levels also once a plant is used to something you need to take it real slow with adjusting most things brother

Thanks man,
the four beans were all fastBuds PE autos. I say all but I have my doubts. Even though they apparently are the same strain, I just seen too many differences. Even had to flip the lights to make one flower. So, I'm always wondering how careful, or how accurate, seedbanks really are. Or maybe it's something out of their control and is the nature of the beast.
I understand even the same strains can differ in appearance for different reasons, so I just look at it as get what you get and adjust.

Very much this mate. Some seedbanks are better than others but youll usually always get some variation in phenos. Unless its been like super stabilised over years and years. Ive heard autos usually show a lot more variation aswell. Whether or not this is true im not 100% but i have heard that. :Rasta:

I hope I don't come off sounding like a jerk with my explanation of this....that is not my intent. But I did just get off of 5 hours of airport fun with a raging case of the flu and strep coming back from vegas where I spent 4 days in a hotel room sucking it up, so I might sound slightly corrosive.

Without going into lengthy discussion regarding quality of glass, I can tell you that I can re-tip a stylus (turntable) with a 10x leica. I also can see a .30 caliber hole at 300 yards (maybe 600 if sun and clouds are right) on paper using 8x spotter (not a scope), and can define a 6" disk at 1100+ yards using 8x.

All the measuring of (X)x is mute unless your also measuring focal length and objective size (and to a lessor extent quality of glass). These items give you a clear, well lit image with a larger plane of view.

The cheap southeast asian (as pc as I can write it) loupes have smaller objectives as the power increases the objectives get smaller. This works well for cracker jack plastic toys.

Can you see trichomes with the 40x loupes that are about as wide as a pencil eraser? Maybe you can. I have a 3 diopter astigmatism, and the razor thin focus image on them is just frustrating.

Good glass is the difference between spending 8 hours with a 110v table saw vs a 220v. Or a SAE torque wrench vs one bought at harbor freight.

At my age, I just can't see through those cheap loupes without it being a big ole ass wipe blur.

I will also point the finger a bit and say "spend money on stuff that is not crap, so you don't have to toss it every 2 weeks for another. 2 of my loupes were my grandfathers from his coin and stamp hobby. Stupid as it sounds, very important to me.

And honestly, if the tool melts when I wipe it with acetone or alcohol to clean it, I prob should not have it.

Also, more elements in a lens is not always better.

Nope, I asked the question..whatever your answer is your opinion and I respect that.

Well, no, which was kinda my whole point. In a nutshell, if I understand correctly, a better focal point and objective size makes up for higher mags with little or no focal point, so quality matters in cases like this.

Like most new growers, a start up kit is exactly that. As you understand more, you start to understand the importance of having good equipment, and where you need to improve. Some things you can probably go the simple or common route, but in this case, for me anyhow, I liike the idea having a bigger viewing window, so the investment is probably worth the aggravation I get trying to see the trichs.
Thanks for the info. If you have a specific recommendation please PM me.

I will post up a photo of the loupe I keep on my shelf. I use it with or without glasses. I wear glasses when I am awake, but don't use the glasses to read much. It says B&L (spelled right), triplet 10x on it.

I do understand that spending coin on glass is wayyyyy down the pecking order of importance when spending $ on your grow.

I don't really do trade work, but most of my family are tradesmen. I built all of the cabinets in my house and put all the windows in and reframed the rear and side of it with an add on. I used all my dad's senco nailguns back from 1982 when he built homes. Most of them needed a 2 buck rubber gasket to get running.

Anyway. Americans, Germans, and Italians make some wonderful tools that last generations if cared for.

Just giving a different perspective! :Namaste: while trying to be graceful 3 days into a tolerance break with the flu...lol.

OK thanks again.. get a pic up once you feel better. It may make you happy to know we use Senco, some very old ones, at our factory. They keep on running. We have to change out the driver pins once in a while though. Some are so old I can't get Senco to make staples without a minimum order or setup charge.
