Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

One of these days I'm going to invest in a PAR meter to check the CFLs. I keep meaning to mark them, but I never do, so there's no way of knowing how effective they really are without a meter.

I think you'll be pleased with the T5 unit. Kuddos on finding it so affordable. :high-five: The light heat should now come a non-issue for you. :yahoo: The plants will enjoy getting more light too. I'm excited for you Tead. :yahoo:

I ran the fixture for about an hour to burn it in and check the heat.
The tubes were warm, but not nearly as warm as the tube part of the CFs. The ballast was slightly warm, but again, not nearly as warm as the base of a CF. This allowed me to bring the fixture down pretty low.

The tubes are not optimal for veg (3000k), so new tubes will be a minor cost, but the fixture with the 3000k tubes was only ~$20, so I'm pretty darn happy so far.

In the days (1970's) before LED, HID, CFLs, and all that fancy stuff, we used to grow under grow-light fluorescent tubes. You can get all kinds of bulbs for the fixtures to vary the wavelength. Just watch the sizes of the ends. They make some super thin bulbs that need a special fixture... I think.

Judging from how many CFLs I supplement the LEDs with, I think you WILL need more than just two. A four-light fixture is more expensive than two basic shop units with the reflectors, but it depends on what you have room for.

Sue when I'm writing a longish post my words end up filling the screen and disappearing down offscreen. Is that what you're talking about? In a moment of inspiration I figured out that I could go down to the end, hit return a bunch, and that brings the precious words up on screen again. Confusing? Try it.

I loved Hunter S Thompson's descriptions of Nixon. No mercy.

Nixon deserved no mercy, and that was such a harsh thing for me to say about another human being it actually brought tears to my eyes. I must now apologize to the universe and resolve, once again, to suspend judgement.

Whew! Be glad you don't travel around inside my brain. :laughtwo:

Tead showed using that little icon on the lower right hand of the compose box. I get nothing from that when I use the iPad or iPhone and I don't have a computer hooked up here. I've used your method to get things in view again. With my post numbers you can be sure I've tried just about everything I could think of at one time or another. Lol!

Always stimulating conversation going on over here. No wonder it's one of my favorite stops.

Ahhhh all the pretty photos in High Times. I remember the record store that had a screened off back room that sold glass... and High Times.
Loved all those counter-culture rags. Voraciously consuming them all from the first issue on.

So... yea... I was aware. I'm actually using the small ones (T5's). They're like 21W each. I do believe another one will be called for. Next time I hit the hardware mother ship, I'll pick up it's twin. If I can keep the heat down with 2 in place, I might even try a third.
Monitoring the heat as the day warms and I'm still 5 under 100f, and as long as I can keep the afternoon heat under the century mark, I should be reasonably good.
Thanks for the memories... that was fun! I wonder if one can find old issues of High Times from the 70's floating out there in cyberspace.

Tead likes to imagine that he's generally a forgiving kinda guy.... or maybe just a forgetting kinda guy.... whatever.... same result.
I have been completely unable to spread any of that sort of love on Nixon.
I once rode an elevator with our embattled mayor Mr. Nagin. I really had very similar feelings about his actions. At least he went to jail.
I find I have little tolerance for such blatant evil from a public official. I have mercy on them all day long when they're just stupid, but no sympathy for those that corrupt their office so completely on purpose.

Reading word from Hunter S Thompson today. While I wish I had opened that door sooner, It's just depressing to read it really.

Yeah, at 21W each, you will DEF need more. I use 23W CFLs in both daylight and soft white and before I installed the LEDs, I used a dozen in each 8 sq ft of enclosure, half above and half down low. If you lollipop, or scrog, you can put them all on top.

Well... 21W/tube with 2 tubes/fixture, so 42 total. Another 50 from the 2 side LEDs. I hoping I can keep the T5s above and let the LEDs work on the side and lower growth. Might should flip that configuration... dunno.

Go with whatever makes your Ladies happy.

Say... that seems like a helluva compliment. Thanks SS.
Mostly babble about food or social/political rants. Some blather about growing plants... but none of us pay any attention to that side point when there's food around!
Then again... I suspect you just might know all those points well.

I gave the veg babies some love.... let's hit some bud porn!

OGK. Coming into full bloom. Sugar's crankin out. Sure nice to see a plant that doesn't suffer from early abuse.... it's been a while.
She's short and curvy... just the way I like all my girls.

And, of course, Betty has to show her 'blooms' as well...

Hang on folks... the sun was bright and I decided to take advantage and grab some daylight photos.....

First, the porn... it's sugar and smell are so very nice.

Here's the Osmo+ test seed... she still appears to be alive. Minor signs of growth.

Afgann reg. She took a while after I abused her at transplant... but she's picking up steam. One of her leaves is twisted... but if from some strong fan action... not an over-N.

Good 'ole OGK clone. Coming out of her cloning abuse and popping right up.

Last, but WAY NOT LEAST.... it's time for some cooking baby! Here's my entire recipe for Bean and Rice in one simple photo.

Yowsa!

Ya know... it's not such a good sausage for just cooking and eating... tho not bad... but it's real magic is the flavor it imparts to the bean mix. DD Hot baby.... awesome stuff.

I once tried to make bean & rice for some family in California. I quickly discovered that the parts available there were just not really suitable. Next time I'm bringing my own.
