Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

Damn Tead. My friend in Phoenix is looking at in excess of 118 degrees for the next 4-5 days. Stay hydrated my friend. I don't envy you at all.

I would chill in your shed with your girls if i was you im sure they wont mind sharing the a/c lol

Tough day... no doubt.
I was running the AC set at 78f. The shed stayed in the low 80's during lights on. It was at 85 earlier today. I bumped it down to 76f and the lower 80s returned. Bring it Summer... you sweaty whore!
Hmmm... I notice that the first day of summer is Sunday. Perhaps I speak too soon.

Super news. Herbie's re-shipment got to me!

So glad you finally got the seeds! So you think you can grow through the summer?

I believe so. The last couple of days has been a pretty good test run. There's no way I could have kept plants alive in the last couple of days using my previous configuration. Sure gonna try!

It represents a big chunk of genetics. I have no where near enough room to keep all the lines going. P-chunk will be one of the first ones I sprout. I hope the P-chunks clone easily. I'm looking forward to the Crit+ 2.0 as well. I'm planning to store the seeds in the fridge... it will be many months before I can get them all grown.

Congrats on the seeds. :thumb: Yes I find that the Pineapple Chunk does clone easily. Curious to see how it does in your room. One thing about mine is I find it very floppy. There's no chance of it supporting it's own weight in flower, even with feeding it plenty of silica. Not that it usually matters too much with the scrog screen in place. It just lays there on the screen like a sticky stinky vine sort of thing. I haven't noticed other people having that problem so maybe it's just something I'm doing...

I wonder if all my fan action will keep them stronger. I always give the fans credit for keeping my plants strong. The P-chunk might be a good test of that theory.

Photos and feedings.
I have not seen any sprouting babies yet. Patience Tead.... patience.

Betty sends her love of course...

A look inside the flower chamber... Osmo girl on the left, 2L traditionally fed on the right. Just moved the 2L into bloom 3 days ago.

And the vegging OGK clones... both on DynaGro nutes.

New phone/camera in the loop. So far, I'd diggin it.

I hope the 2L girl makes ya proud.

She's been very abused and very clipped for clone material. I expect very little from her at this point, but I was tired of seeing her in the veg tent.
I really am digging the 2L form factor for many, many reasons. They do dry out a bit quicker than I'm used to. I feed/water every 3 days, but every 2 days would be a better fit for them. Perhaps they'll become the standard in my world and I can swap to a regular 2 day routine instead of drying them out for an extra day.
Time will tell.

Ya for me its about 2-3 days between each watering sometimes i let em go a little too dry but the bounce back quick. Do you give a dry period or anything i can't remember. I wasn't sure if a dry period would be good in hempy figured it would air prune the hell out of the root system since its technically hydro. I guess i need a bit of a refresher course on some of the finer details again lol

I most certainly think you will have no problem giving the 2L a dry ending basically after you flush don't water again. In my last journal i severely dried out the big bush in veg and it crisped up fast. So i shouldn't bother with a wet dry cycle in hempy? Close as i come to that is waiting to water til the container is super light then and only the do i water. Another question if i may do you think its even possible to overwater in perlite hempys? I just not sure if that would be a thing since we only have that little reservoir and it can only hold so much before it exits out the side hole. Just some things i been thinking about lately

That's my general thought on it as well. I had to go check because I have a 2L in the bloom room... and we're nerdin out on it, so I went and stuck my finger about 3 inches down in all my pots. Watering occurred yesterday morning.
The larger pots were all still quite wet. There was a certain 'clumping' feeling when I wiggled my finger around a touch.
The 2L was notably drier with no 'clumping' feeling when I wiggled my finger around.
That was about what I expected.

The physical size and shape of our soda bottles is the main contributor. We maintain the height of the larger pots while thinning the pot. Just a significantly drop in mass holding less water and exposing the skinny tube to a touch larger heat profile.

Another question if i may do you think its even possible to overwater in perlite hempys? I just not sure if that would be a thing since we only have that little reservoir and it can only hold so much before it exits out the side hole. Just some things i been thinking about lately

I really don't think so. I often feel that my 3day schedule is too often and overkill. Many run 1 week schedules. Not in 2Ls of course, but anything over 3gals would probably work on a weekly schedule. Having said that, I have never seen an over watering issue. I think that's one of the bonuses of going with pure perlite... it really seems to stay evenly watered thru my non-watering days, but under the level that would cause over watering issues.

Magic I tell you... magic.

I'm re-directing a different discussion here as to not muddy up other's posts with my blather.

Tead, you make a good preacher!

I have the equipment to make one hempy. I only have vermiculite, tho, no perlite. A DIY tutorial I downloaded suggests using a 5:1 mix of both. Might have to make a run to the store. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Ya know... I use pure perlite and see no real bonus to the presence of vermiculite.
Of course, I'm in a very hot environment (avg around 82f-85f) and very high humidity, so I need to boost evaporation and movement as much as possible. I have experienced the perl/verm mix previosly, but like the pure perl mixture better.
Of course, the choice of medium would be dependent on one's local world and even container size.

TY for moving this. We really hijacked that poor grower's question, didn't we? LOL!

I read that Perlite can be washed and reused. I like that. I assume it is lighter when wet than soil? If I have to lift and tip it to clear out the bottom reservoir, it can't be too heavy. I'm 87 and not as strong as I used to be.

Is there a lighter medium I can use that works?

When I pick some up at the store, I'll try one plant and see how I like the system. I already have a 5 gal bin with soil set up with a young BBL, all laid out in stage 1 of flex. (It's on my journal, #367, page 25)

I hate to hijack newbie threads. I have no mercy for the regulars however. Please feel free to hijack this one at your leisure. I often run with other people's threads at the mere mention of food. It's a problem.

Coco might be lighter. Not sure. Never used coco. Perlite is lighter than soil by a long shot. I run 3gal buckets with a 2 inch res at the bottom. Even when freshly watered and with a full res, it's probably lighter than a dry soil bucket of the same size.

One plant... that's exactly how I started. It will be fun for us to watch... it always is. Thanks for considering the grow method. We love watching the religion spread to a new Hempy monk. Plus we're helpful, irreverent, and sometimes funny.
