Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

Everyone gets to enjoy a good catastrophe now and then.
Power hit took out 8 meanwell drivers. Fuck me runnin. Down to 1 set of LEDs in each room (grow/veg). I had some other lights hanging around and got them going. It's an odd mix of HPS, CFL, and various flavors of LED.
I'm eyeing these cheap units as replacements.... 48V 12.5A 600W LED Driver Switching Power Supply(SMPS)110/220VAC-DC48V Transformer Monitoring Power Supply Industrial Power Universal Type - - Amazon
Replacement meanwells would run about $180 each, so the $30 version is mighty tempting. Don't know for sure that they'll work, but look light the right driver to replace my HLG-600H-48b's. Not sure about the constant voltage/constant current bit, but I'm happy to spend 30 bones to find out.
Meh!

Meh!

What do you mean "power hit"? Did the grid accidentally double the voltage down your lines or something?

I like the new $30 supply, it looks like 3D printer power supplies, lol. But they have screw terminals, so you need to prepare all of your own cables with the correct terminal connectors. I would wait till the unit arrives before you figure which terminal connector to use. That sucks that you lost all of your drivers. I didn't know they were so vulnerable.

I didn't know they were so vulnerable.

Apparently they are. I'll be adding some power protection soon.
I tried opening one up to see if I could fix any components on the board. No joy.... it's packed in black goo and I can't imagine a way to clean it all off and get to the board. Double Meh!
I'll pick up one for testing and then order more if they work. I'm not seeing any reason why they wouldn't work.
Man... Meanwell sure has a monopoly on the driver market!

I can't imagine why there's black goo. I mean there's thermal paste or thermal grease between high powered micro chips and heat sinks, but it's white lithium looking stuff. Black goo makes me think something melted to produce it.

Electronics made to withstand weather are often sealed in the non-conductive goo for protection. It's solid, but was put in there as goo. It protects everything inside the case from being affected (effected?) by the humidity or any water.

Hey tead did you have surge protector strips

Well... it ain't dat simple baby!
The drivers plug into a Titan power controller that provides 240v to each outlet. It has dual trigger cords that control the relays that turn the power on and off for 2 banks of lights. The Titan controller connects to a circuit breaker in the power box of the house.
A better answer to the config is whole house protection.

Holy moly that's more complicated than I thought :laughtwo: I have a couple of 3 board fixtures with one meanwell driver each. Both plugged into cheapo surge protector strips

Bump your 2 fixtures to 10 fixtures pulling 600w each. You'll quickly find yourself looking for some other solution. 2 sets of mine would push a household circuit to it's limit. Running them in a combined configuration with some sort of distribution system is the only way. You can build your own easy enough, but I decided to pop for the well worked solution.

Wow that sucks that the things are so fragile. I guess Mean-well just isn’t good enough... a little insulting really.... under the circumstances. Consider upgrading to Tri-Harder? :hmmmm:

Slowwwwww shipping. Ordered thru AMZ, but I think delivery is direct from China.
I'll be sure to let you know how they turn out once they arrive.

I've been using fabric grow bags. Meaning to setup an Octopot with them, but haven't got around to it yet.
Seeing a ton of root penetration thru the sides and bottom of the bags. Not a concern or anything... just makes me chuckle a bit.
