Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

I was thinking,, in the summertime,,, that little reservoir under the drain hole,,, could be something like vermiculite that keeps the moisture. It's another 100% inert substrate like perlite cept it holds water instead of repealing it. Kind of like sawdust... Just acouple pennies out there... GL my Friend and Keepem Green

Oh man... technology has been kickin my ass lately.
First a hard drive failure. This actually triggers a complete computer replacement. The old beast was showing it's years pretty heavy and the OS was out of support. Limped along on a laptop with a drive controller issue that caused intermittent blue screens. 500 bones later and Tead's driving a new beast with a nice video card and an M.2 SSD. Of course, the OS change kills me, but one has little choice but to accept the change.
Next, I physically break the memory chip for my camera and the little inner chip has gone flying somewhere I can't find. Borrowed one from a buddy.
Then I loose my phone. Geez. Got it back a few days later thanks to the google locator. I wish I would have immediately remembered the locator thingy.
Then the final insult... a simple empty black print cartridge on the printer. It a stupid configuration on the printer.... any empty cartridge functionally turns it into a brick for scanning or file sharing purposes.

Meh!

I vE been missing you guys so I figured I d pop in and check things out and wow, I m impressed!! I guess I ve been away long enough to really notice your cool little advances in your set up... it’s really cool to see man. Glad winter is treating ya nice, it’s also a bit of a break for us canucks up here, but a little hard mixing this -20 c air from outside with the 27 c in the flower room, thank god for a variable speed control on my fresh air fan. Still, something I gotta watch when the temps swing outside from 6 degrees too -45 c!
I just jumped in on your last page of your journal so it might take me a while to catch up...... like a long while wow, busy boy! Good to see your still as awesome as ever, keep er up bro-Montana!

Fun! Welcome home BB!

I know the fun of checking out for a while and diving back in... it's pretty sweet. Enjoy.

Our little visitor. I suspect we'll see her again pre-harvest, but I could be wrong.

Clippin up some OGK and diggin some WWOZ this morning. WWOZ is nice. Local music... community supported... not PBS... volunteer talent running it all. Kinda odd on Saturdays, but awesome most other days and they always have venue listings in the mornings for the day so you can know if something piques your interest. Plus, you can get ur NOLA music fix over the interwebby. Satchmo was just playin... they're old school this morning.

Things always look so much better when the sun hits them!

Dam bro those look amazing are those done with osmo+ also what would u think about doing tht pvc setup like u got that dda in im not sire how big it is i think i asked b4 but i forgot lol but if lets say we had one that would fit 5 gallons of perlite wud it work if u drilled numerous holes up the side and have a plug for all of them cept one an then did an auto in it from seed an as it gets older lower the hole do u think that would work or no? I'm jus wondering since they say autos growth depends on how long there tap root can grow b4 hitting bottom or sumthn like that lol.

The bottom of the container is the bottom of the container, no matter how many holes you drill in the pot. The holes control water level, NOT soil depth. :Namaste:

Yea thts y i said one that would hold 5 gallons worth of perlite. Cause idk how much his biggest one holds i dnt have anything I cud use for a reference as 2 how big it would need to be so i just said one tht would hold 5gal worth.

In tube form,

a 5-gal 6" tube (the size pictured) would be 41" tall

a 5-gal 8" tube would be 23" tall.

a 5-gal 10" tube would be 15" tall.

Just for fun:
a 5-gal 2" PVC tube (a common size) would be 368" - over 30' tall :)

Well shit teads growing some monsters in his tubes. If you were to grow an auto in hempy o think it would do well in a 6 inch diameter tube maybe 12 inches tall...but I also do coco in mine.

I like the multi-hole idea. It allows you to bring the water level up to wherever the roots are at the moment. This might avoid the wait time before the roots hit the bottom and the plants starts growing much faster. Tead's had his eyes open for some golf tees to use as plugs... they'll have to be very water tight and I think a golf tee might work... perhaps with a touch of plumbers putty.

Yup... my garden has been 100% Osmo+ for the last couple of years.

I've actually got a DDA going in a 24" pot at the moment.

Your words bring on a discussion of pot sizes. It seems that water only rises thru 12" of perlite. Pots over 12" will need some extra watering to keep the tops wet. Different medium mixes might play out differently. I think if you were looking to increase pot size, going with a larger diameter rather than a height taller than 12". I've done this in my world by re-implementing some larger diameter red buckets that hold 10L instead of 6L. Of course, there are also discussions to be had about the larger diameter pots providing a better root ball, but I'll avoid those for the moment.

The idea of the holes is to keep the roots in water while they're young. In hempy, we see a huge boost in plant growth speed when your roots hit the bottom res of the hempy pot. The holes are a way to avoid the wait time.

I think a simple 5gal bucket is your best bet if you want to hit the 5gal target. My little tubes are just 1.5g (6L).

6" x 12" is my exact size. You'll do great in that form factor. If you want a larger pot, go with a diameter increase instead of a height increase.

Lmao a 30 foot grow tent jesus what are doing growing for the jolly green giant hahaha but thanx for the info i got one of my hempy girls in a 5.5 gallon waste basket lol i normally would have them in a 3 gallon one to finish but I got the wrong one and didn't relize it till i was filling it up and it didn't end up full after i ran out of perlite needless to say it took me just a second to relize it was an xtra couple inches taller then the other 1 i had lol but yea we will c how big a difference 2.5 gallons make. What do u normally get for yields per plant on ur hempy girls?

Meh!

I've tricked printers before with electrical tape. Put a piece on the back of the cartridge where the machine's optical sensor would normally see ink in that little window back there. Shiny electrical tape just reflects the black, machine thinks cartridge full, back in business.

Hey there Tead man! I see things are doing good out that way. This cold gonna put a damper on the girls or they coming inside?

I got that crazy Kali AK in the jars tonight. She put out over 5.5 ounces and that was a shorter plant. My cannabis tester said it's a very nice buzz, focused energetic and up there as far as strength. I am going to keep her around for at least a bit longer.

Keep her around a bit longer?!?! She's a fine woman... why ya gotta kick her to the curb like that?!?!
Oh... you meant the KaliAK.

It sure pleases Tead's soul that those worked in your world. I banged my head upon them for a long time. Funny how things can work out so differently for folks. I'm starting to become convinced that Tead can only grow the easy plants. They have to be very sturdy girls to sweat thru the heat.

The weather hasn't chased me inside yet. The lowest 10 day predicted number I see is a 43f one day. The rain might chase me in, but the temps are supposed to stay acceptable. They slow down some in the colder weather, but it's pretty subtle. We've generally seeing 50s-70s right now and the girls are luvvin it.

I am wondering how far into the new year I'll be able to bloom outside. The days start lengthening starting the 21st of this month. I think I can get plants to bloom outside to about March before the day length gets too long. Of course, by april/may they'll need to go into the AC, but I'm really gonna try to push the outdoor blooming as far as I can this year.

I feel like it's been too long since we shared a meal...

In the 6L tubes, I'm seeing around 2oz.
I've grown in the 10L buckets before, but my garden areas are very different from those days and I can't really say what I'll see out of the larger size.

One of these days I need to try a perlite grow???????? Hempy???? But I'm a firm believer, all a growth medium is,,, is a place for roots to expand and take up nutrients and to support the mainstem of a plant............ Either perlite,,, or coconut husk????? GL my Friend

Try it with perlite and Osmo+... such an easy way to dip your toes in the pond. I've even been feeding the outside girls straight from the garden hose.... no fancy water magic except for some CalMag doses.
Added bonus, the lack of dirt really drives down bug numbers.

Don't get me wrong, Kali AK looks like crap from start to finish in my garden too, but the end result doesn't seem to suffer at all.

I think the outdoor timeframe will depend on the strains. A little experimentation is definitely in order.

Only been a little while. Going to try and go home for a couple days during the holidays. We will have to catch up after the holidays.
